Lecture by Jayapataka Swami recounting the pastimes of Lord Nityananda and Lord Chaitanya centered on Panihati: descriptions include Nityananda's kirtans, miraculous events (ecstatic dancing, siddhis), the establishment and spread of the Sankirtan (Namahata) movement from Panihati and Mayapur, Srila Prabhupada's interest in Panihati (visiting the riverside tree and proposing an ISKCON center), and local cultural details (Raghava Pandit's preserves, deities, and the Malati tree). The talk mixes narrative history, devotional exhortation, and practical notes for devotees.
Raghunand considered something in his mind. And the next day he went to Nithyananda Gosai in the village of Panihati Alihati Pani Hathi. Raghunath Das obtained an interview with Nithyananda Prabhu who was accompanied by many kirtan performers, servants and others. Sitting on a rock under a tree on the bank of the Ganges, Lord Nityananda seemed as he faltered as hundreds and thousands of rising sons, many devotees sat on the ground surrounding him. Seeing the influence of Nithyananda Prabhu, Pragrunath Das was astonished. Sikh Sri Latra Upad when he was surrounded by all of his devotees and when there was rath yatras and big festivals had some reflection of his representative of Nithyananda. When he was having so many associates with him and he was chanting or dancing. It was something very special. Of course, we can never equal what's going on here with Lord Nityananda Prabhupada. God was empowered like that. Distinguished people would see and they would just be amazed. Even he mentioned that some bishops and Christian priests were saying that how these people were with us, but they didn't look the same. Now they're all looking for a falchion. What happened? See, even the devotees became a falchion in the presence of Prabhupada by his mercy. So Outra is so difficult. I'm trying to imagine, but it is unimaginable. But something we can try to maybe imagine that we cannot fully do it. How beautiful. Lord Nityananda appeared seated on the tree. The tree on the side of the Ganges river and Panihati. Panihati is a very special place. In Caitanya's past times. Lot is said about Panihati and Caitanya Bhagavad Anihati is also the house of Raghunath Das Raghava Pandit, rather Raghava Pandit and Ramayanti his sister. He has been duly garlanded. I went with Srila Prabhupada to Panihati twice. Prabhupada visited this tree. It's still standing. This is the house of Raghava Pandit. Prabhupada also thought this place was very important. He said he wanted to have an ISKCON center there. At that time, the government was offering to us the riverside tree. The riverside place. The Prophet said we can build a temple on stilts, like a big parking lot so that open access is kept there for the tree. Everyone can go and come. We would be up on the second floor with the temple people will come. The time was before the communist government and there was the West Bengal was under Congress rule. And so the local mla, the member of Legislative assembly, he said I don't know you have legislative assemblies in America also. It's the State Assembly. They're called assemblymen there. They're called Emily's Member of Legislative Assembly. Indians like abbreviations. They don't like here they'll call a member a Parliament, a senator representative. But there, if you're a member of Parliament, they call you mp doesn't matter Hindi, Bengali, anywhere. Everyone knows that they are the mp Member of Parliament. It's like that, right? Just strike me. Everywhere else in the world they call them Mr. Senator, Mr. Representative, Mr. Some they live in. Anyway, this sounds so important. But there was this member of the Legislative Assembly. He was taking us, taking Prabhupada to show the land. Inshallah, we want to develop this place. We want ISKCON to come here. So Prabhupada was very enthusiastic. He said yes, we must do this. Then in the end the government lost power and the new government was totally against us. At least they were not at all favorable to the. We met the local people there and that was where we got our first Shali gram sila from one devotee. Panihati and Mayapur. So Prabhupada was telling how Vodcitak eternally resides in Panihati. The Panihati is one of the five places where Lord Caitanya is always residing. He was giving a lot of importance. He said we should have a boat service flying from Calcutta to Mayapur with a stop in Panihati. And they can have Chiradayi yogurt and flat and rice breakfast on the way as a special treat. So he had so many ideas. He was really. He asked some of devotees to just concentrate like a guru's order their life and developing this project. Then hopefully I will get delayed because Prabhupada also said we should distribute Shiva Dwayne. We should be prominent in the festival. So we start to go to that festival even now after 500 years. Over 100,000 people. How many? Over 100? I don't know, 200 or 150 or I think at least 200,000. But attend every year. There's no posters, no Internet mail outs, no advertisements in the newspaper. Everybody just looks on their calendar, the Panihati. That's enough. Everybody shows up. I don't want to miss it because the mercy is flowing. How many of you want mercy One way is be where the mercy flows. Be in the right place at the right time. No use going for the Christmas cell when it's already history. You have to go there just at the right time. So people know that time. So much mercy is flowing. But in Panihati, mercy is flowing all the time. A lot of mercy flows in Panihati. But there's more I did to it. Prabhupada one time told the Lord is giving me still spoken? Give me hot milk. And then they brought out the milk because it's not hot enough. So how hot do you want it? Said, I want it as hot as possible. They went back and heated up. It was like boiling. It was just like. And Prabhupada grabbed the glass. Ah, burned his hand. It's too hot. But Prabhupada said, as hot as possible. Yes, but not impossible. As hard as possible to drink. So after maybe two years, one year, Mochitanya was there with Nityananda and Ganganath Puri. He'd call Nityananda and tell him, you know, we were preaching in Bengal and I suddenly left of Sannyas. We didn't finish the job. But now I can't go back as I'm sannyasi. I can't be back in a place, family and so forth. Why don't you go back? You should go back and preach there and finish the work that we started to take. Some men can go alone, Lord, she said, it's okay. You can take some in. You don't have to come every year to the Rath Yatra. You can stay there and preach every morning. Sometimes you come, sometimes you stay there. So it's a duchinanda. Then he chose his team of people, the cowherd boys from Vrindavan. And reincarnated became his associates. Brothers Gopals, people like Gauri Das, Pandit Ninikitan, Ram Dass, Abhi, Ram Takur. Just 12 cowherd boys were there. And there was. There was only 40 big devotees. He took the time. Must have been a big group. But Jayapuri, the tent. They all got the blessings from Lord Chaitanya. And they started to travel back to Bengal for preaching. Some kirtan party. So as they were traveling, it said they were chanting, dancing, chanting and dancing. They said they were so ecstatic was their chanting and dancing that they would also dramatize different pastimes of ka. Sometimes in their ecstasy, someone would take the position of ka. Somebody Radha, somebody different. Different part players in Krishna's leelas. And they would dramatize it and some of its chanting. They would so completely get absorbed in the Sankirtam. In the past times they would lose track of the road. They would wander off the road and sometimes go 8 kilometers off, 10 kilometers, 8, 5, 6 miles off the road, Some side road. Then someone would say, where is Bengal? The Bengal Road 10 km back that way. And they again be chanting every move. They would be chanting and dancing the whole way. Sometimes they would miss the road when they cross it and go on that kind of. So their path was like zig, zig going back and forth. So normally it would take one month to walk 500 km from Jagannath Puri to Bengal. It took them three months because of so much ecstasy there. The route was much longer. So they were a very blissful group. So much ecstatic. Finally they reached Panihati. Ramanath Das went straight. I mean Vocita Nithyananda went straight to the house of Raghava Bandit. Raghavana is a reincarnation of one of Krishna's cooks. Radharani's cooks. Her assistant cooks for serving the Lord. So when Nithyananda went there, what was he doing? He was in the kitchen cooking the rajbo. No offering. It was in the late morning. So he put his arm on Raghunathas Raghav upan shoulder. Raghav upan Nitai. What did he say? So immediately offered his obeisances. And he said, how many are you? So about 45. It's all right. I'll have lunch ready for you in one hour. Why don't you all go take a bath in the Ganges and then come back. If you suddenly had 45 guests show up at your house, could be cooking them a feast in one hour on a cow dung stove. Raghava Pandit was expert. You knew how to do it immediately. He was so excited. He was so happy to be able to cook and serve Lord Nityananda and all the Vaishnavas. She prepared nice feast. Nityananda went to the Ganges, took his bath with the devotees. Just think how blissful. Who is Nityananda? Everyone knows Mamta. You know who Nithinand is. Who is he? Lord Chaitanya's brother. It's not wrong. The Lord Caitanya is Radhakrishna combined. Sri Krishna Chaitanya, Radhakrishna Nahiyan, Balaram Nityanamna. Who's on this side is Balaram. Nityananda is very jolly, very humorous, very merciful. My nature is very merciful. He delivered Janai Madan. How Much merciful and more merciful. Can somebody get. They were destined to go to hell. They were going to torture them for a long time. Nichen undeveloped and Paramaka supremely merciful. We're taught by a song here to the devotees in ISKCON for the first time. So you shall all chant this. How merciful are Nithai and Goran Chandra. So here your gore in time in Atlanta blessing the devotees. We hear from that Prabhupada disciples that were present at that time. How Prabhupada was crying. How Prabhupada was seeing that Lord morning tired, giving their mercy to all of the people here in America. To all the people, all the devotees here in Anupanihati. So this is a very, very special place of Prabhupada's past times. And here Prabhupada was feeling the moon, the mercy of Nittaya and Gora like in Panihat. So when Nithyananda came back from the Ganges Pragava Bhatti had a whole feast ready, had all the devotees sit down, had already offered his Radha Madhana, Mohan Devis. That's why here in Nurpanihati our deities are called Ramadanmohan just like Rala Pandits and we distribute it. You can still see the deities of Raghava, Pandit and Pani. I think they're still being worshipped. They're smaller than this. About this baby. And they have an exhibition there. Raghavas, Jolie, Damanti and Raghava used to prepare special kinds of preparations. Digestive aids for Lord Chaitanya's diet, Achars, pickles, sweets, things that would last the expiry date. 1 month, 2 months, 6 months expiry date 1 year. To cook something with a 1 year expiry date you have to be ready, expert. They were so expert they knew how to take Ganges mud and make sweets out of it. To take mud and make it sweet, you really have to be expert. Of course Ganges mud is special. It's not like ordinary even then. I don't know anybody who knows how to make Ganges mud sweets today. It's a lost art. Don't know what proportion, don't know the recipe. All he knows described that he she would make Ganges month sweets. And it would be a favorite delicacy for Wachitanya. So they make all these very wonderful Achars, Mingo, Achar, Marobas. In North India they have shops where you can some shops along the highway. It's all these type of Acharas maroba, amla, maroba, dael maroba. This means they keep some frightened fruit in a sweet sauce. And it's like preserved preserves, they call it in America. So they have. They could make all these amazing kinds of preserves, pickles, things that would last the whole year or most of the year, half the year for Ro Chitundam. So every year there would be a whole caravan of people carrying these bags of pickles and preserves and sweets and preparations. Things that has to last at least a month. That's how long it took to walk there. They walk. So these bags are famous as raghavas jolis. Jolie means bags. So we have an exhibition there of some of the preparations. They made clay replicas of the preparations. Who's seen it? Who's nganga so far? We went sarvashakta. Nobody else. Emma, you went there. Panihati. You saw it. Anybody else? My horizontal volume rise. Very interesting. Of course, unfortunately, the signs are all in Bengali. So you need a translator to tell you what each of the things are. Or you have to know what they make special ladoos from. Powdered, puffed rice balls and things. Anyway, that's still there today. You can go and see. There's a tree. Ranga Gopand Samadhi is there. And there's a special tree, a malati tree. Is Malati coming? She's here. She's here. She's here. So we're remembering her tree. Malati tree is there. And Lord Chitanya, Nithyananda Mordute dance under that tree. It's a vine, like a grape vine that grows. Not exactly a vine, but it's a little tree. But it's kind of like a tree vine, some vine. But it can grow over lettuce. So when Nithya Matna finished his lunch, took a little rest, then in the afternoon he came out and said, let's have a kirtan. So his kirtan singers didn't need a second indication. They all got out and started playing their instruments, their drums and their car tongues started dancing and chanting in ecstasy. So then he was saying that, describing this kirtan, that the oris were dancing, Nityananda were seated, or whoever he would glance at in Panihati. They would get ecstatic just by his glance. They would feel overwhelmed with love of ka. How many of you would like Nityananda to give you his loving glance? That's a shortcut. Just one glance and you filled with love. Sometimes during the kirtans here the lords seem to be giving their glance, you see. Maybe not the full glance. That would be the full ones who got the full on glance completely fell over and the ground started rolling. Moldy rollers, they could not sustain it. It was too heavy. So maybe just a little side glance. Not to get those legs. So want to speak the full glance. If we see some devotees in the full glance, you know what happens? They hit their head against the chandelier. Although be on the ground. But. So there's a various ecstatic kirtan going on. There are different devotees dancing in front of Nityananda. Different formations. So we're still doing that, trying to dance before the Lord. Then Nithyananda, he got up and he started to dance. He says when he dances, it's out of this world. Since he's the husband of Mother Earth, he's the origin of Rahadeva. And when he dances, even the earth was getting the lotus feet on her bank. Starts to tremble in ecstasy. Earth trembles. Everybody feels that. And whenever Lord Nithyananda dances. I told you there are five places that Lord Chaitanya is always present. One of those places is whenever Nithyananda dances. So when he started to dance, Lord Chaitanya was traveling in South India somewhere. He flew right there, invisible, with all the other devotees watching. Because he doesn't want to miss. He won't miss it. It's not every time that Nityananda dances. When he dances, he doesn't want to miss it. So he's right there watching. So Nithinam is dancing. How can I explain it? I can't. It's inexplicable. It's so beautiful. It's so artistic. It's so loving. And all the books are just. It's like when the writer gets to that point, he gets overwhelmed, can't write anymore. Nityananda's dancing. He's dancing. He's dancing. So all the devotees are gathered around watching Nithyananda's dancing. Then Nithyananda sees Lord Chaitanya standing there. So he tells everyone, Lord Chaitanya's come. They're just looking at him. We can't see him because he's invincible to them. You can't see him, but I can see him. He's here. He's here right now. But he's wearing a garment from South India. A flower that doesn't grow in Bengkal. If you smell, you may be able to smell his presence. You can sort of trying to sniff him out. Then Lord Caitanya like, lets the fragrance come from his body, from his garment. Some devotees smells it. Nithyananda's dancing. Lord Chaitanya is emitting this love gas, love perfume, love scent. And people are becoming overwhelmed. How many would like to be there? So many pastimes happen there. Vanity. Madna. After dancing. And he's very energetically dancing. So he's covered with perspiration. He's hot, apparently, putting on that Lena as if he's a human being. So he's going through all this dancing. And afterwards everybody, he sits down. And so then they all bring buckets of water from the Ganges and give him an Abhishek live. And we should have an Abishek. Actually, he wants to have Abishek. They had Abhishek in the Chananda, the entire Abhishek. Then afterwards, Nityananda went back and changed his clothes. They're all wet. So I went back and put on fresh clothes. Dodi and Chandler came out. He had no garland. He called Raghu pan and he said, I'm a cowherd boy. I love kadamba flowers. Give me a kadamba garden. I'm very happy to serve you. But I don't have any kadumba trees. I don't know any kadumba trees within every area. And it's not. Even if I knew it, it's not kadamba flower season. So how am I to fulfill your instruction? So then just go in your garden and if you find any kadamu flowers, bring them. Well, his garden was filled with lemon trees and different kinds of trees he used for his cooking. So he goes back in there to make his pickles and things. So he has lemon tree. All of a sudden, out of the lemon tree, pop, pop, pop, pop. Come to Dhamma. So sometimes you want to know how to do something with the festival. Doesn't seem to just go to new time. If he wants, he can do anything. So he made a kadamba garland. You know, like kadamba flowers night. It's a ball. It's a ball with thousands of very soft, little. What do you call those pastulas. Little flower. Perfectly round and has very, very nice soft fragrance. It's yellowish, yellow, orange. Kind of yellow. Orange color. Light yellow. Light orange. The colored voice. Play ball with it. You can take out all the soft petals. And then the middle of it looks like a center of a golf ball or something. Anyway, he made this beautiful kadamba garland. Garland went out and gave it to Nithinath. And Everybody's amazed. So then they started just having this kirtan like Nithyananda came to establish Namahata in Bengal to establish the Sankirtan Movement. And this is the 500th anniversary of Lord Chaitanya's initiation. Next year is the 500th anniversary of Mittenman of Lord, Lord Chetana Starringness and King Movement. We're inviting all of the Sankirtan devotees and preachers, congregational preachers around the world to come to Mayapur for celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Sankirtan Movement's commencement. Giving special offers for the preachers. Mayapur. So this kirtan was going on. It didn't stop. I don't know when the people slept, if they slept at all. But if they did, it was just like somebody chanted until they dropped and then they came back in and they continued chanting. It just. The kirtan didn't even stop. There was enough people that somehow it just kept going. It kept going every day and night. And the word came out. There's this really far out kirtan going on. And people would come to look, but when they would look, they would get drawn into it. Next thing they know, they were chanting. They'd be there for two, three days, forget about everything. Then I think, oh, my wife, my kids, where have you been? People say, what happened to you? You're so happy, you're so ecstatic. And then every one would go to the kid time and everybody would come out completely just ecstatic. And so like this sometimes the, the. The crowd grew up to 10,000 people. Pan is a little place. It's like 10,000. It's a lot of people. And the kirtan was going on like this for three months, day and night. And at the end of like the last month from Non Stop Kirtan, the devotees started to get like mystically empowered. Just like automatically. They didn't desire it, but just they were manifesting ashta siddhis. Some devotee would start floating up in the air. Hrimo hri bho, you know, lighter than the light is. Then he'd be jumping from one treetop to another Honeywell honeymoon. Somebody become like super strong and pick up as if they picked up nine palm trees, uprooted them and started dancing with the palm trees. I had Abhiram Thakur, he had a bamboo that was almost something like 60, 70ft long, which is big, thick bamboo. And he was carrying it like it was a flute. And some other devotee picked up by hills like a mango tree, like gigantic Must weigh. I mean, how many tons and tons does a huge tree. Look at each tree. Like all these trees. Picked up the tree and started dancing with it. Well, finally I got nothing left. You know, I'm getting good for you. I don't have mangoes, my palm cheese. There's 10,000 people here. And this is like they're destroying my house. I love you. You're all here. But this. They're going to break down my temple. It's too wild. They're already pulling out my trees and dancing in the trees. So then five critical mass thing it was like. So then he moved on from Panihati. And for the first year his preaching was just going and camping out for a week. Chanting completely, just going one place to the next. It was just kirtan. No time for lectures, no time for anything. There was just kirtan. But people would get so the Daniel. So anyway, that was how the Nam Haka started. But it all started in Panihati. So this also for North America strategic planning. You should tell them this is the place Nam Hatha Shivda be expanding from Nubanihati in North America. Afterwards, Ngordityanand as he's going along, he'd leave one associate in each place and they would become the local Namhata leader and the coordinator. They gradually they'd establish so many groups. They'd have their team of devotees. They'd build temples. They do everything very dynamically. This way it completely flooded Bengal. We're here in Panihat is the place for North Sankirtan. Vukmil reactivated re established. Mayapur is the original place. But then Nityananda came back, started it in Panihati, then took it and spread it back to Navadvip and then established it there. But his first point of contact was in Panihati. So Raghava Pandit Raghunandas he saw Lord Nityananda there. And Panihati was amazed. And he paid his obeisances. Raghunathas offered his obeisances by falling prostrate at a distant place. And the servant of Nitin Agnapur pointed out, there's Raghunath Das offering obeisances. Hearing this, Lord, we Tinanda Prabhu said, you are a thief. Now you have to come to see me. Come here. Come here. Today I shall punish you. The Lord called him. But Rabbi Nadas did not go near the Lord. And the Lord forcibly caught him and placed his lotus feet upon him. Rabbi Nadas. So this is what's going to happen tomorrow. Read this again. Nityananda was by nature very merciful and funny. Being merciful, he spoke to Raghunath Das as are just like a thief. For instead of coming near you stay away at a distant place. Now that I have captured you, I shall punish you, make a festival and feed my associates yogurt and chipped rice. Hearing this, Raghavan Andaas was greatly pleased. So tomorrow we're going to celebrate this Dandam Ovitsa, this punishment festival. Nithyananda is punishing Raghunath Das for staying away and Somalia to continue reeling from there and describing the festival. Here we are Nupandihati for annual Panda Hathi festival. Supposed to give a seminar at 10 o' clock and then we can just eat breakfast ready rings. I think what I'll do is have the seminar at 10:30. 10:30, 10:40. Which he'll take some snack while it's not doing Meer Jello. Any question? Yes, Kelly. Kelly. So the Western philosophy didn't really make sense to. But what's the question? The question is this is a comment. Thank you for your comment. Western philosophy there are different types. It's a broad topic. A lot of the modern philosophy is more just how to rationalize things but the whole purpose of life Philosophy deals with many topics. How about that? There's a new book about philosophy. Different comments of different philosophers. None of us are working on that. I don't know what happened. You could read some of Prabhupada's but the Vedic philosophy goes to the absolute truth. Whether not all Western philosophy goes to the absolute truth. Rather than just dealing with relative truth, Vedic philosophy deals with truth at different levels. But ultimately the absolute truth philosophy. Right? Well, philosophy without any sentiment without any religion. Philosophy without sentiment becomes mental speculation kind and religion sentiment without any philosophy without any scriptural basis to become fanaticism or sentimentalism. It should be a combination of sentiments and philosophy. That's the Bhagavad's name. Bhakti Vedanta Devotion with philosophy. Any question about today's class? Nithya numbers reviving it started his journey up. Which day? It will be good to figure out Mah Lord Chittend Sannyasa 24 years. Then he went down to Jagannathuri. Was it one or two years? How long was Nityananda there before he was sent back? Guessing. Without really calculating it, roughly 26 years. That would put this at the 525th year anniversary of Lord Nityananda's starting Nagma preaching in Pranayama next year is the 500. That'll be the 526. I don't know whether Nityananda may. Whether he was there. One my understanding is Nityananda was there in the first Rad Yatra. And somehow I have to say, well, how. We'd have to study exactly what day the Lord Chaitan did take. So he asked how long did it take to get down there? How long was the first Rath Yatra? Months or a whole year? Like nine or ten months away? I think he. I think it was at least a year later. And that's something we can start later. SIGMATI 525 years ago, Lord Nityananda came to Swamihati. 524 or 525 the second time. I mean, he was there before the Panihati was on their preaching tour. But it really became prominent after when Lord he came back and made that like the center of his future. Thank you all very much. You mentioned how the Rehas does. They just have to do their duty, but they can still. They should be very externally responsible for all their Rehasta duties. Even if they may be very attached to Ka. They may be very much in love with Ka. Lord Chaitanya wanted them to act responsibly as Agrihasta. But internally keep their love with ka. Of course, now we have a lot of opportunities for Orcitangas followers. Even Nithyananda's followers. Most of them were Rehastas. Even Abhiram Thakur married when he went back to Bengal to preach with Nithyananda. Almost everybody had to be a married preacher. Those days when Brahmanas could preach as their occupation, they would live very simply. But others who are in other occupations, they also joined into Namda. And they also were preachers. He had 64 main preachers. He called his Chosati or were called by others chosati mahantas. The 64 mahants. He made them also gurus to initiate broadly ask us. I mean most of them. Even his wife Janava Devi was also an initiate. And preaching. Preaching homeland. What's your name again? Kiara. Thank you. Thank you. This is about half hour from Namah presentation here that we're talking about the Namhat projects around the world. A little workshop. All the Prabhupada disciples. We will serve you breakfast at the guest house on the table there. So if you can go there immediate, please. And we have set up for 10 people to sit. Everyone else prasada will be served out here on the side of the house over here. It'll be served very shortly, so just line up outside of the temple here. Thank you. It was 10:30. You at the wrong time. It happy. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day. And don't forget to like and share our channel.
