#JayapatakaSwamiArchives A Bhagavad-gītā Class by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja

A recorded Bhagavad-gītā class by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja (uploaded as part of #JayapatakaSwamiArchives). The speaker recounts a story emphasizing simple devotional practice (daily reading/chanting of the 18th chapter of the Bhagavad-gītā) as superior to austere penances, describes Krishna’s mercy and Lord Chaitanya’s distributive mercy, discusses guru verification and authentic spiritual lineage (guru–parampara), and advocates grassroots congregational development (Bhakti Sangha / counselor groups) with examples from Bosnia and Scandinavia. The talk includes practical invitations: forming local bhakti groups, and an announcement/invitation to a large festival for Srila Prabhupada’s 108th birth anniversary with deity installation on 22–23 February and an extended festival (dates listed: 19 Feb → 7 Mar). There is a short Q&A exchange with a participant named Prashant about mystical experiences and verification of seeing Krishna.

22–23 February (with the extended festival dates spoken as around 19 February through 7 March).
And everything different sacrifices. So when I saw that I was just replaced by this Brahman and he didn't do any of these things, I don't see him having this kind of a karma resume. So I wonder why is it that I got removed and why didn't he get put in my face? And Isha said, well, you did all those things, but those are not very important things. I mean they're small fruits, fig tree, dry fruit, nothing very juicy and very important. It's alright, nothing special. But this Ramana, he pleased me because he pleased me. Therefore I made anything. We're working at the supreme Warrior. He makes the final decision who's going to represent him if he wants to make a Nucci king of the angels, it's up to him. So the interview was quickly coming to a close. And then so this excellent said, well my Lord, could you please tell me what did he do that pleased you so much? And my Lord, and so then he said, well, every day he would read five verses of the 18th chapter Bible here. Every day he would read five. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 verses 18. I got kicked off my seat after climbing the Himalayan mountains, after planting hundreds and thousands of trees, after performing tremendous austerity, penances, meditations and all kinds of things. I mean, I was sacrificing, I was sweating, I was doing all kinds of tremendous, tremendous sacrifices. And he was reading five verses from 18th chapter Bhagavad and I had kicked off my seat. Abdyas, I didn't know what was important. It's not important how much you sweat or how much you do. What's important is how much you please Krishna. If he's pleased, then everything can be achieved by easily. I worked so hard, I didn't know what was important. Obviously he knew because I was nothing, sweating, climbing those stupid mountains, working like a dog. And I could have achieved something much easier if I had read the Bible of Peter, 18th chapter. If I do it, if that's what pleases the Lord, that's what I'm going to do. So he just completely sits. He's not like hung up. And some ego is not fair to say. He wanted to do what works. And ultimately in this universe and all the universes, what works best is what pleases Krishna. That's what really works. It takes some people a long time to figure that out. So then he figured it out. He learned firsthand. So he came down to Sinai, came to this planet, visited U.S. extraterrestrial. But he took a human form and then he found a guru and learned the 18th chapter. Bhagavad Gita. Anybody who wants to learn something in a spiritual science, you need spiritual guidance. Who guide you, teach you. They're called gurus. So he found a guru who teach him Bhagavad Gita, 18th chapter. He learned the 18th chapter and every day, not only the five verses, he chanted all the 80 some verses of the 18th chapter. And he completely everyday made it his daily practice. After some time of chanting every day to the chanter Bhagavad Gita, the messengers from Mishna came to visit him. He looked up and saw them. He said yes. So we've come from Mishnu, the supreme personality of God here. He's very pleased with you. What would you like? He's happy to give you whatever you want. Want to be Indra again? Want to be any of the angels? No. It is a material heaven. It's not like temporary. We got removed once I was there. I did that one already. I was. Can I ask you a question? I just want to know something. Could you take me to the spiritual world where never destroys or never deteriorates. Where the Supreme Lord is, so I could directly do some service for him? You take me there. Let me do some direct service to Him. Rather than just running a little section here in this universe. I write to himself, personal service to the Lord. Could you arrange that for me? You said yes, no problem. We can do that. You can take it there. That's what I want. Not only here anymore. Just I want to go there, be with him and serve him directly. So then he was transferred back to the spiritual world. So which person got the better deal? The Brahmana who became Indra. The Indra who got transferred back to the spiritual world. What do you think? The Lord Chaitanya is giving away free passes back to the spiritual world automatically? It's a side benefit. Actually. He's giving a passes to develop your love for Krishna and develop so much of a personal loving relationship with Ka. By having it automatically you get taken back there. That's like. That's a given. That's the easy part. Even if you go back there, maybe if you don't have that kind of relationship with Krishna, then he'll be in one of the more external situations. But here, directly getting on the intimate level, a relationship with personality which takes you back to the spiritual world also because to serve the Lord, you have to go where he is. So that's what Lord Chaitan is. That's why Lord Srila Prabhraba says, you don't know how merciful. This very great, very great personality with great saints and very great devotees, great yogis, they're bad after getting this kind of a blessing, this kind of a. And Lord Chaitanya is giving it out freely. Even the people from different cultures, different countries don't know anything about spiritual life. He would give it away freely. And he's still giving it away freely to his representatives. So you're all very fortunate because all of you getting the mercy on board. New time here, you see. Born Utah. What's the. So you're all very, very fortunate that here in Guttenberg, Gateborg, I don't know which is the correct pronunciation. But here you have the mercy of Borgnitai. And this nice association with so many nice devotees. Here it says that in spiritual life we have a good association of other people who are interested in spiritually advancing. This is like in the ocean having a smooth weather. I mean, from the Norwegian, Scandinavian countries, the Vikings are famous and used to go sailing. So they're really the ones who discovered America much before Christopher Columbus. So if you have good weather, then anything sailing goes really easy. If it's a big storm or something, it's tough. So here you have so many nice devotees. You can Chandra, Krishna and irregular fasts and practices. In this way you can advance very nicely in your spiritual life. What we have here, I see already must be. I don't count, but we say roughly almost 30 people. So we have a program that whenever you have anywhere between six to 10 people, you can have a small group called Bhakti Risha group or Bhakti Sangha group. So we have one center like this. And then during the week, whenever it's convenient, different groups, people get together and they develop a kind of a family support system, spiritual family, where they help each other. But there's other systems similar, like the counselor group. But in terms of the Bhakti Sangha groups, I was just in Sarajevo and Bosnia. They started these groups about two, three years ago. Now they have five groups. They just initially have one. Now they have up to five. And we had this meeting with him where all the devotees, they're in the yacht, everybody's a member of the group. They all get together on the weekend like this, in a week in some hall or some meeting. During the week they have one, this, three and that two. And some are all somewhere. Most of them are mixed tea, where all these groups. And one was like more or less, almost all men, one was almost all women. But there's Nothing like that. In fact, three of the group's leaders were ladies, if I'm not mistaken. Two or three at least, and two or three were men. So it's also that this is completely. Anybody can be the leader, whoever is qualified, who are enthusiastic. And one it was. There were Brahmanas in the group, but the leader was. Bakhtin was an uninitiated girl lady who was. But she was very enthusiastic. And so that I could be the leader. She did very nicely the facilitation. So each group came up and did a little kirtan baishan for everybody else. And then they explained what the things they were doing and how they appreciate, how they benefit. I had to ask them questions. I asked them what they want to do. Tell us what you think about this program. One of the groups, when they were speaking, two of the members, they broke down in tears. They said that so much I benefited by having this group that for me, I never really had such a developed family. But this becomes my family. These are my family members. These other people, we get together. We. We help each other. And Krishna hands, we share, we learn and we do things together. I feel so much support and strength from this kind of association. It was so moving for me because I tried to promote this type of congregational developments around the world. I'm a minister of congregational development in Islam. And you see people so happy that they break down in tears of joy and gratitude for the program behind the hakima, but more to be asked for. They were so emotionally moved and feeling so much better. And the boshi is like, you know, I don't hear what boshi is like. So it Islamic. It's pretty hard to do things there publicly. So they almost have to do this hand in small groups. And they have to be very discreet not to offend the Muslim majority there. Most of these people are Muslims that are practicing. It's all mixed up. Majority are from the Muslim background. They're also practicing. So they face a lot of pressure from their family members. Why you're doing something different. And so they need support. But support really helps them that they get together and they discuss. They share their problem. They share. So. So it's an opportunity for them to get guidance and all the devotees to share, to work together, do things together. And as I heard here that you're also. I've been hearing that for a couple years now that you're developing this program here also. And I can see that you have enough people to have this kind of bhakti sangha, bhakti rickshaw groups. You can easily have even 4 or 5 of the number of people here today. And I'm sure that maybe on a Sunday, if there are more people coming here, this is a holiday, maybe they are out on vacation. If you just have that program. Everybody is a member of one of these groups because that's how we can care for them. The more helping responsible, like how can one state manager or one president give personal care for everybody? Isn't even impossible to care for so many people effectively. But when people are in these groups, like in Chowpati in Bombay, everybody's a member more or less. You have to be a member of a counselor group. I think if you want to get appreciated. I don't think you you can get initiated if you have a member of a counselor group. They have a counselor group system. It's very similar. But they said about 80% the same as groups. So just that they don't. The bacteria group. You can actually have teen or a younger devotee. The coordinator, we're in a counselor which is the most senior devotees that counsel because he has actually counseling other devotees. Well, back to rickshaw. We facilitate meetings and another senior devotee could be there who's actually giving counseling who doesn't have to facilitate the meeting. This is a slightly different structure, but the end result comes to the same thing. You do have counseling going on. You do have support, you do have questionnaires, you have a lot of interactive sharing realizations. So we do hope that you develop that program because it's a way of giving support and care for all of the members of the community. And also it gives us an opportunity to do things together. And it gives us an opportunity to bring more people into it. Very easily we get to learn how to stand the movement. If you have more questions you can ask me. I can tell you more things about that program. Just give a little mention to it. The other thing was that I wanted to inform you and invite you that we're having a special celebration this year for the 108th birth year of Srila Prabhupada. And on that occasion we're also installing if Krishna loves us on the 22nd and 23rd of February the large panchata deities for the main temple vedi Planetarium. It's 125 meter high temple that also next year and the deities of the caste in South India. Not all the process of being cast and also devotees when they want. Here's the whole festival program on this blue sheet. And stay there for two, three weeks. For the whole festival. If you like. 22nd, 20th of 19th of February, 7th of March. This is the full festival. Those who want they can go also to the Vrindavan. After I personally go on a safari after myanport take a much smaller group. This year we expect thousands of devotees to come to my envor Such another one of the siddhis will come and Swamiji there his health permits and all intimacies will be there for the needy installation. So it's wonderful festival. I hope you do if you're able to come also if you like to be part of the Gidi installation. Giddy installation not only includes the metal for the D root but also fixing the altar up and fixing for extending the temple room to make it bigger to hold extra people. And if there's anything more beyond that, we'll go for the foundation laying on the main temple. People can also sponsor just put in the form of kilos of metal that go into the bili. Each bili weighs something like 1.8, 1.6 tons. He has a life size medium. What's the time? He has 7ft. That's like 2.15 maybe meters. 1.8 times. You can also get into that. Tell me and I can pass it on. Or it gives an address here where you can say it Delight. See if anybody's interested in Anybody has any questions. Yeah, Maharash was speaking about Arjuna when he came before he came to that point when he was full of doubts. And his man and he was a traditional best friend said they were joking, laughing. My friends Nandi became serious. What happened after this point where he came up to his last chapter. He again became that holy friend of Krishna. He had some job he had to do. The 18 days of the Kurukshepar WAR I thought it was a pretty serious business they were pretty focused on working in. But you know, obviously it loosened up a lot. You see the Garjuna, he made a vow that he was going to one of the days of the Kuruksheter war. He vowed he was going to kill Jayadratta to defeat him in the battle. This guy runs a stone some nasty things. So he took that voice. I can't do that. I'm going to enter into fire. So as soon as the other side they knew that he was a man of his word. So if he said that he'd actually do it. He'd enter into fire, he'd kill himself. He couldn't fulfill what he vowed. So then they changed their whole battle plan. They said okay, next day, our whole strategy is how to save naive. The we can say to him, we kill Arjuna, we kill Arjuna, their side looses their genital and he's the greatest warrior they got. They're going to leave matriarch's position. So they all started what they called it the needle, the needle formation, where at the end of the needle was Jaya Dhrata. In order to get to him, Arjuna had to almost fight every single warrior in the battle. The impossible situation that made it impossible for Dethar was impossible to achieve. But then somehow, one after another, Arjun defeated every single warrior. He didn't take the time to kill everybody because he got to do it quick. He went and got right back. The last person was falling. But in those days the kodeshivoli was you fight from sunrise to sunset. So by that time, Krishna put a cloud over the sun and looked as if the sun had set. And then Jaya Janta had been hiding in the back. Looks like the sound set. He came out laughing. I did it. I'm still alive. I shouldn't lie to the fire. I'm alive. Then Krishna like, removed the cloud and the sunlight came on. Oh no. And he saw, you know, there he's like right off the open and there's still sunlight. So the battle's still on. But Arjuna tells Krishna, I mean, excuse me, Krishna tells Arjuna that take off his head and he has like guided missile arrows. He said, have that arrow take with a mantra. He said, take the head and drop it on the, on the lap of his father, the Chaya Dutta's father. So then Arjuna, he programs his arrow and sends it off, takes off the head of Jaya Dharata, takes it over and drops it on the lap of the father of Jayadatta. Now the father had, after being a king or whatever he was, he became a yogi. He was doing mystic meditation. So, so he had made some kind of a sacrifice that whoever causes his son's head to hit the ground when he dies, his head will blow up. It's like it was a real nasty thing to do, right? So this. So Krishna has the head torn. My father sees my head, he throws it off his lap and hits the ground. So he's the last person that threw the son after the sun dead, caused his head to fall down dead on the ground, his head will go up, his father's head blows up. Like Krishna got rid of two pallas. Even if Arjuna kills him, he also gets killed. It's like, it's a Real tricky situation. So somehow Arjuna was. Then after that, Krishna told her to don't make stupid vows again. You know how much problem he put us through to get you out of this thing. Devotees, I vow I will never marry or I'll vow. You know, they shouldn't do premature things. Just have some kind of whim, you know, emotions. Don't do stuff like this. Don't think of vowel. You know. This time Krishna covered it. But don't do something like that again. Krishna really had to organize things so that at the end of the day, Arjuna would win to show how Krishna was. Although he's just sitting there diving the chariot for Arjuna, he's actually controlling the whole scene, what's going on. So definitely the things between them. But Arjuna was primarily following Krishna's guidance. It was like in the golf course, you have the caddy who guides the good caddy, actually kind of tells what iron the golfer should hit with or somewhat iron or club, whatever. The movie came out, the Legend of Bagervance. I don't know. It's a funny movie that came out. Yeah. The point is that there's 18 holes in the golf course and there's 18 chapters of Bag Maguna. Mr. R. Dot Juna was the candy and. No, he was the golfer. But his caddy who was carrying his cubs was Mr. Beggar Vance. Baker Baker carrying the bags. Baker Vance AK Vance. Come on, bring the bags. So Beggar Vance, like Vagavans, Veggar Vance, Beggar Vance. And this Arjuna, he completely didn't want to play the golf game. He was totally in the moat. But then beggar bands preached to him how, you know, without being attached to winning or losing. You should go out there and you should remember that we. So anyway, the man, he won the golf match. Then this Veggar Vance went off a legend of Beggar Vance helped his golfer winter match. So it wasn't, you know, it was like the takeoff of the Bhagavad Gita. Sometimes the motor used to go and for a while it was popular in the States. The boy used to go and sell the book behind Angerlands and sell Lamborghinis at the movie. It wasn't like a big hit like Star wars, but it was like popular for a while. Finally get a CD of it. Not that great. Not that many movies. Yes, right.
I was actually thinking very much about this that you were speaking about.
You were thinking about why I was.
Thinking, what are you speaking? The symptoms of somebody who has seen Krishna action. And these Tears and shivering. Sometimes I wonder has anybody in Krishna? Because they cannot speak about it. They cannot tell yes I saw Krishna and then it could be just the exact opponents word that nobody has seen. Then this is my doubt. Why can't we sometimes just hear yes I saw Krishna and this.
I know the tell of the truth.
Yeah, that's a very big problem.
That was the point that Prabhupada said and I could tell you. Then how do you know I'm telling you the truth? Anybody can say I know people I know many people say they've seen Krishna. It's not that they don't say that but you see them saying yes I have seen Krishna. They're smoking cigarettes, they're doing funny things. They don't seem like the person that seems like Krishna. Somebody really pressed Prabhupada. He said yes I think but even I say how do you know? That makes it too easy. Anybody who says there should be some way you can verify if somebody is seen or not. So that's the verification methods are given in Caitanya Charity Amida. Even some few things are given in Bhaiavamita. All you can tell is someone who has who is advanced in ka consciousness, last five, six verses of 12th chapter. They also say who's very dear to Krishna. There are several places in Bhagavad Gita as you know to answer this is an important thing. How do you know? Anybody who tells you I have seen? It's only because I have seen the truth, the way and the light. I never had an eye seen that level, the reality of absolute truth. So there's different levels also. Is that like Prabhupada said a guru should be liberated. So there's two kinds of liberating gurus. They said like this Narada Muni is completely God realized. Then there's another type of liberation which is who's following who's following the liberating guru. Because if you follow the brain guru then you're also liberated by poem. So Prabhupada didn't claim that I'm a guru because I am liberated. But I'm in that sense in the first sense that I follow my guru's library and I follow him. By following him I liberate him. That's Devon Parampara Bhavtamina Praja Sri, the Guru Parampara system. If somebody is following the liberated gurus then you can also be Shiva peace. And that's something you can verify very easily. There are some people going around they say oh, our guru, he's Uttamadhikani. He is liberated. You only can get love of Krishna if you reject all the other gurus and just accept him. But this kind of propaganda is not harm Quran side the Cayman thing recommended by Lord Chaitanya and on what basis anybody can say anything. That's his marketing technique. A quality of an empowered person is that he's able to empower other people. He's able to make people the world. Something that Prabhupada made so many devotees. And the Prabhupada, many of his followers were awakening people to their spiritual life. We have some people that go and they just say that their guru is Bhujamari, but he hasn't made new ones. But these experts are taking the existing people trying to figure out some kind of guru people already they were awakened. And then by this kind of a hype the people are attracted oh yes, I want the best food Krishna causes. We don't criticize like anybody like that. We don't give hyper praise to. We just want people know who the different spiritual masters are. See who they develop faith but who they can develop a relationship. And then Hulai who is able to help them to get rid of their doubts. Like Arjuna's doubts were mitigated by Krishna. So by asking questions by feelings of this person as to somebody's doubts are mitigated if their faith is enhanced, if their enthusiasm is enhanced. They can understand this is my spiritual master. But without giving it to some this is the only guru. It's not like that because different people may have different gurus, may be inspired by a different spiritual master. It's not that one is the only like guru. There are so many gurus but Krishna is represented through so many different devotees. So we don't like this kind of propaganda. Is only one guru and things like that criticizing everybody else. It's very Advaishnama to do such things. So Prabhupada wanted to create this a very peaceful, positive, progressive environment. In this kind of people can go forward in their spiritual life and everybody one guru in Chaitanya's past 10 there are hundreds of gurus. Some would be, you know, like Vedicaryas that had thousands of disciples. Some were made of Chinese. Garatam Das Thakpur's guru had one disciple, Naratum Das Tatum Goswami but he was a great Shiramuni. But Narottam had so many disciples. And Bharatam's best friend or friend was Sri Vasacharya. He was initiated By Gopal Bhakti Goswam and Shamananda Pandit was also both of their friends. And he was initiated by Gauri Das by Hidayakshi Tendon for the Saibo Noribas Tammy. But all three of them are Shisha disciples of Jiligo songs. So at that time there were so many gurus who were functioning in the world and they were working with each other. And somebody had this by DK Guru. But they may have uncommon Siksha gurus and things were in a very family spirit that people could take whichever guru that they wanted. Prabhupada has recreated that within Iskan and many this year two Gonai mats have joined with ISKCON in India. Small ones like single Mut Gurdian mats. They decided that they want to be part of iskcon. Iskcon the environment is so much more favorable. Why be alone? Why be outside? And we can be part of which is more pleasing for Lord Ji which is more like the original movement of Lord Chitang. That's the Prabhupada he requested all the Dogi masks. Let's all work together. Let's all form a governing body work together. They didn't want to do that during his presence in our chain of we cooperate together. We have a society called Sarasadvoni Vaishnav Society and grandma trying to work more and more together. Many baby steps do some things together. That was a. It should have been like that. Everyone cooperating to spread their glory. So Krishna as soon as it starts going into exclusivity and blasting other people. One person has to guide another person. I may have many disciples. I'm dependent on my disciples, older disciples to guide the younger disciples. I'm dependent on my nephews and nieces and godbrothers and God sisters to help for guiding someone in the bodies. When I see it, I give a personal care. But otherwise so much day to day support is given. It's like a joint family. When you're just a little nuclear family. Then you got to take care of the baby all yourself. It's a baby. There's a lot of pressure. If you got your brothers and sisters and everybody. If they all get along with each other, ideal situation. Then they don't need babysitters and childcare. It gets all worked out within the family. So it's like kind of working and then they kind of more collegiate or familial way. So the one and that was what it was like with her. I read Lord Chaitanya's description what happened during his presence after you can see that kind of an environment it was much more it wasn't like it was just one big Chaitanya movement It wasn't broken up into different institutions probably trying to do that with all the followers of Bakti sudden it wasn't possible they didn't want it and so now he's done it Within ISKCON at least there is not biting anyone can be one they can join ISKCON also apart from that ISKCON another organization were joined in another front we're also trying to organize one more cooperation separate institutions or like a European Union kind of set up where everyone's distinct organization but at the same time we work with each other and we do some things collectively so we're trying to go ahead and as soon as somebody says I'm the only one his followers they don't respect anybody else be prone to China unity and diversity requires respect for everyone Any other questions? Everybody already take Prashant more Prasanna I do have I brought my computer if you want to see any kind of everybody taking this out in an informal way I could show some slides maybe it's too late I don't know if it's too late for people Perhaps while you're taking you know I could show either my festival I could show safari with the boys see our tour or world tour also whatever you'd like to see I could show some slides should we ask? Sure how many would like to stay for slideshow and we take residue at the same time this wall would be okay this kind of an off white wall I didn't bring a screen I got a projector I have a computer my cables I didn't bring a screen Airlines then let me know but this kind of.
