#JayapatakaSwamiArchives Caitanya Caritāmṛta with Guru Mahārāja [3] || Śrī Māyāpur, IN

Transcribed lecture by Bhavanath Jha (from the Jayapataka Swami archives) on Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s pastimes and the Sankīrtana (Hare Krishna) movement. Key narrated pastimes include Caitanya appearing in the mood of Balarāma (calling for honey), the Yamunā/Varuṇī episode, and ekatva/mood shifts (Vishnu/Garuḍa). The speaker emphasizes continuous public chanting (Hare Kṛṣṇa and related mantras), historical resistance from a local Qāzī (Shankhāzī) and the devotees’ civil disobedience, and the movement’s modern relevance for spiritual revival and social reform. The chunk ends with audience questions, practical advice for preaching, and anecdotes about tolerance and confrontation.
Sam Ram Ram Ishan. Ram Ram Ram. Sa. Sam.
Savvy.
On television Pro. There's two. How many channels in Calcutta? Two. One Bengali station and one English. Hindi Bengali. But there's another Hindi also. National and then the local. This is the Bengali one. I just opened up Chaitanya Cheram Rita and came to the nice pastime that it's not told very much. When Lord Gauranga went in the mood of Balaram one day, the Lord sat down in the corridor of Avishtu temple and began calling very loudly. Bring some honey. Bring some honey. Bring some honey. Understand? The ecstatic Muda of Sichitanya Mahaprabhu brought a pot of Ganges water as a token and put it before him. After drinking the water, Lord Caitanya became so ecstatic that he began to dance. Thus everyone saw the pastime of attracting the river Jamuna purport by Srila Prabhupada. Jamuna Karshanalila is the pastime of attracting Yamuna. One day Shi Baladin wanted the Yamuna river to come before him and when the river Yamuna refused, he took his plow wanting to dig a canal so that Jamuna would be obliged to come there. Since R. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is the original form of Balara Dev, in his ecstasy he asked everyone to bring honey. In this way all the devotees standing there saw the Jamuna Ka Leela. In this Leela, Bala Dev was accompanied by his girlfriends. After drinking a honey beverage called Varuni, he wanted to jump in the Jamuna and swim with the girls. It is stated in Shimad va' agem 10, 65, 25, 30 and 33. Then Lord Baladev asked Jamuna to come near and when the river disobeyed the order of the Lord, he became angry and thus wanted to snatch her near to him with his plow. Yamuna, however, very much afraid of Lord Balaram's anger, immediately came and surrendered unto him praying to the Lord, the supreme personality of Gandhi. Admitting her fault, she was then excused. This is the Sam and substance of the Jamuna Kaishan Leela. The incident is also described in the prayer of Jaydev Goswami concerning the ten incarnations. So all the incarnations are within Ka. So since Lord Caitanya is Ka, sometimes he goes into the mood of different incarnations. One day when we were at Moray, Gupta described how the Lord was in his reading of Vishnu Sahasranam and went into the Vishnu mood. And then Morani Gupta went into the Garuda Mood and took Krishna Chaitanya on his back and started to run around, said I will fly you anywhere in the universe, even to the other universe. Sometimes the Gopis would also be in this ecstasy out of love. They would remember Krishnas remember Krishna used to play the flute like this. Or they would start acting out Krishna's pastime. One playing Krishna, someone playing Radha or someone playing some Gopi or Mother Yesoda or some demon. So Lord Chaitanya, he would sometime assume this mood of a different of some avatar. So this was interesting that he assumed the mood of Balaram and he was calling out Madhu. Madhu means honey. Madhu Dao or what does it say? Madhu ano Madhuano bring honey. So immediately Nithyananda who is actually the incarnation of Balaram, he could understand the mood of the Lord and he brought Ganges water. The Lord in his ecstasy is not distinguished saying this is honey. Okay, he just takes it. It's hon. When the Lord in his ecstasy of Bala day was moving as if intoxicated by the beverage Advaita Crya, the chief of the Cryas Crya Sekhara saw him in the form of Balaram. Remember, Advaita is an expansion coming from Balaram. Balaram is the source of the three Purusha avataras. Maha Vishnu, Garbhodakshaya, Vishnu, Kirudaksha Y Vishnu and Sesha. So since Lord Advaita is Maha Vishnu avatar, he's also coming from Baladi. Lord Chaitanya. Everybody else is singing just Lord Chaitanya who's walking as if he's a little intoxicated on Varuni beverage. But when Acharya looked, he didn't see Lord Caitanya. Not only that, saw a golden plough in the hand of Balaram. And the devotees all assembled together danced, overwhelmed by ecstasy. In this way they danced continuously for 12 hours. And in the evening they all took bath in the Ganges and then returned to their homes. So under those spontaneous pastime avoid Chaitanya going into the ecstasy of Balaram turned into a 12 hour non stop Kirtan. For us to have a Nama Yagya we had to make so many preparations. They had Nama Yagya all the time. Anytime, 12 hour Akirtan take a Ganges bath and go home. So like this Lord Chaitanya was continuously manifesting different pastimes one after another. The Jamuna, Akash and Alila, those who knew the pastime then they could pick up. If someone didn't know the pastime, there was no Stopping for purports. But most of the devotees they could understand. Interesting. Lord Chaitanya coming in the form of Balaram Nithyananda must have been very ecstatic to see Lord Chaitanya taking its form. Then it describes the Lord Chaitanya ordered all the Navada citizens to chant the Hare Ka Mantra. Now it was no longer the secret Kirtans in the house of Shivas nor it was public. Each and every home they began performing Sankirtan regularly. One other popular song that was sung along with the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is Sarah Samhitan Mohadani Hari Hari Dhani Dina Anthra Nahi Suni. When the Sankirta movement started, no one in Navadip could hear any other sound than the words Hari Hari, Hari Hari Hari, Hari Hari Hari and the beating of Nidranga and clashing of Kartal hand belts purport Maishla Prabhupada. The international society of For Ka Consciousness now has its world center Navadi Mayapur. The managers of this center should see that 24 hours a day there is chanting of the holy names of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra with the addition of Hare Namo Haraye Nama Ka Jadu Vaya Namo. For this song was a favorite of R. Chaitani Mahaprabhu. But all such Sankirtan must be preceded by the chanting of the holy names of the five Tattvas. Sri Kshtachary, Danya Prabhu, Nithyananda Shiyate Dagodarna. We are already accustomed to Chandi's two mantras. Now after these the other two lines namely should be added. Especially in Mayapur. Chanting of these six lines should go on so perfectly well that no one there hears any other vibration than the chanting of the holy names of the Lord that will make the center spiritually all perfect. Like this. Srila Prabhupada gave a nice instruction that we should all chant here in Mayapur. We should have continuous chanting of Panchatatra Mantra, Hare Krishna Mantra and Hari Haraye Nama Ka Jadavaya Namo Hari Haraye Nama Krishna Gopal. So he always see the Prabhupada giving throughout Chaitanya, Cheramida and also in other books he would give some instruction. So managers of Mayapur are blessed that he gave instruction right in the books. It will be eternally seen. Prabhupada. When he was here, he was always thinking how to improve things. He wanted Mayapur to be like a showpiece. Devotees to come and get trained how to do different things. He also didn't want. Like here. He says okay, it's alright to chant this mantra. But sometimes other things he didn't like. One time I was living in Kirtan during Guru Puja and I was chanting Hare Ka with the people of the devotees. I wanted them to chant louder. I told them.
Every time I was for two, three times I did this. When I'm patterned developed and suddenly a.
New mantra coming out of Mayanpur. And sometimes to get here, devotees chanting some different mantras. Adding a little bit. We had to be careful. The main thing Amin chanting bread and butter, whatever you want to call. Rice and dal, whatever you're. If you're in Italian, I guess it's your pasta and sauce and yes, and soup. Whatever the main dish is. Here's the Pacitra mantra, Hare Ka Mantra and if you have to add something, then there's Hare Harai Namakrishna mantra life. Hearing the resounding vibration of the Hare ka Mantra, the local Mohammedans, greatly angry submitted a complaint to the cause. The Fujadhara or city magistrate was called the Kaji for Prabhas purport. The Jamidharas or landholders Mandalairas levy taxes on the land. But keeping law and order and punishing criminals was duty entrusted to the Qazi. Both the Qazi and the landholders were under the control of the Governor of Bengal which at that time was known as Suba Bangla. The districts of Nadia, Islampur and Bagolyana were all under the Zamindar named Hari Hoda or his descendants known as Krishadas Hoda. It is said that Shahzi was the spiritual master of Nawab Hussain Shah. According to one opinion his name was Mulana Sirajuddin and according to another his name was Havibar Rahman. Descendants of Chankazi are still living in the vicinity of Mayapur. People still go see the tomb of the Chankazi which is under a Champaka tree and it's known as Shankazi Samadhi. How many of you have seen Shankhazi Samadhi? You saw the Champak tree, saw the Neem tree also both the trees are growing together. So here we get the whole administrative setup that there was a governor and there were landlords and there were Qazis. So Qazis were directly government officers to enforce the law and order and landlords were raising their taxes and they were feudal lords. But they were not so much responsible for law and order. Hari Hor is recorded in the gazette ancient gazette of Nadia district. Some kind of annals. He was a king that became very poor. At one point he was almost bankrupt, was eating leaves. But because he was a king, he could do no other occupation than exact taxes. So there was some big problem. Then he recovered his wealth and his son Krishnadas Hor Hora hod with a dot under a horat. He was one of the deer associates of word nitin under. And he lived in a place called Bora Gachi. His Capital is about 15 km from Mayapur to the northeast. And I was looking for that place. So one time I discovered it.
And.
It was amazing because there's Gornitai deities there from 450 years. Underneath the deity the date is written and they're really beautiful deities. And there's all kinds of pastime places there of Lord Nithyananda, Sri Krishna Das Hora. He's mentioned as one of the Mahantas of Lor Nithyananda. He in his later life he know what he did with his kingdom. I think must have handed over to his son or something. But he then became a guru, even though it was a Kshatriya. These Mahantas of Nithyananda were gurus and they came from different castes. Before only Brahmanas could be gurus. But Lord Nithyananda established many different people who were ka conscious as gurus also 500 whatever, 490 years ago. It is interesting as I read here, that he was also the main landlord for these three districts. Sometimes we either go on Gormandal Bhumi Nava de Parikuma is just the nine islands of Nava de Venti Island. This Gormandal there are many wonderful holy places that Lord Chaitanya and his associates, more than what we can cover. Take a couple years to cover them all. I mean, if you're only going for a couple weeks at a time, you can do it all in a year. If you dedicate the whole year, it's a lot of holy place. So this is the Chagazi. He was like the police chief. Chankar Sangali came to one home in the evening and when he saw kirtan going up, he broke a midrange and spoke as follows. For so long you did not follow the regular principles of the Hindu religion. But now you are following them with great enthusiasm. May I know by whose strength you are doing so? Prabhupada in the purport. He says that from the aggression of Bhaktiyar Kiliji in Bengal until the time of the Chankazi Hindus or the followers of Vedic Principles were greatly suppressed. Like the Hindus in present day Pakistan, practically no one could execute the Hindu religious principles freely. Shankazi referred to this condition of Hindu society. Formerly, the Hindus had not been straightforward in executing their Hindu principles. But now they were freely chanting the Hare Ka Mah Mantra. Therefore it must have been by the strength of someone else that they were so daring. Actually this was the fact. All the members of the so called Hindu society had followed the social customs and formulas. They had practically forgotten to execute their religious principles strictly. But with the presence of R. Caitanu Mahaprabhu, they actually began following the regular principles according to his order. That order is still existing anywhere and everywhere in all parts of the world one can execute it. That order is to become a spiritual master under the direction of R. Chetani Mahaprabhu by following the regular principle, chanting daily at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna Mah Mantra and preaching the movement of Ka consciousness all over the world. If we adhere to the order of R. Cathani Mahprabhu, we shall get spiritual strength without a doubt. And we shall be free to preach this cult of the Hare Ka movement and not be hampered by anyone. Baba said that the present day Hindu Dharma is like drying up, doesn't have the life. Here we see how the life can be put back into Hindu Dharma. If they take up the instructions of Caitanya Mahprabhu and begin chanting the Hare Kishta Maha Mantra in Kirtan in Sankirtan, then they'll get life again. We all know the pastime of the Chankazi, but I would just, you know, usually we just kind of run through it like on Parikrama, have the drama and act it all out. But I was just seeing here that there's a lot of instructions that Prabhupada is giving and the secret, just like you find that you may have some ordinary students who may be by birth the Hindus, but they're not very enlivened by their own culture. They may sometimes do some rituals or worship Saraswati or vimers to pass some exam or something, but they're not necessarily very much active. But when you put them in association with devotees and they start to chant, then they become very enlivened. And even their parents are sometimes frightened that why are you becoming so religious? Better to just be in Maya. Wait till you get old. That people have grown accustomed to a very kind of mild version or inactive version of Hindu Dharma. But when Caitanya Mahaprabhu influence is added, it becomes very Dynamic. Even the Chankazi was amazed how these people got so much daring that in the midst of my Mogul rule, they are publicly singing and dancing in the street and chanting. Now there's no Chankazi, there's no British rule. But somehow, by the influence of like foreign cultural dominion, even the young people of India, they've almost gone negative to their own culture in some places. I had here one devotee, father is English and mother is Bengali. And they're both devotees of Hare Krishna. So he was trying to go to the school in Calcutta, prep school, some high class, Indian medium school. He wore neck beads to the school and all the other students made fun. What are you doing with these neckbeats? You become a sadhu or something. They were ridiculing and making fun. They're all wearing, you know, Levi jeans and Western shirts. And they're more Western than the Westerners. Even Indian tourists like to come and put on Indian clothing, right? So he found that when he went to the west and went to school there, people were interested. Oh, something different. What beautiful beads you have around your neck. What is this? And he was elected the president of the school union and became the valedicta banana India, which is the land of dharma. The students thought he was crazy. Why you want to be Indian culture? We are, you know, like to be westernized. Prabhupada used to say that now the Indians want to imitate the West. He said this is like new crow, old crow philosophy. The old crows already been eating garbage for so long that they get a little bit picky what garbage to eat. So they reject many kinds of garbage. But a young crow who is really fired up and still hungry has not developed that discrimination. He will eat any old garbage. So Prabhupada said Westerners are already rejecting that this is not the way to be happy. They're looking for some higher source of happiness. They're coming to India and they're looking for some real peace of mind in the Indian culture. But the young Indians who want to imitate the west, they're grabbing up the refused culture of the west, which the foreigners are already rejecting as a hopeless to be happy and thinking that this will make them happy. So Prabhupada taught, this is like new crows and even we're all crows in this example. The next time I see someone performing satsang kirtan, certainly I shall chastise him by not only confiscating all his property, but also converting him into a Mohammedan. In those days, to convert a Hindu into Mohammedan was easy. If a Mohammedan sprinkled water on the body of a Hindu, it was supposed that the Hindu had already become a Mohammedan during the transition of the British. Whose side are you on? Many Hindus were converted into Mohammedan by having cow's flesh forcibly pushed into their mouths. Hindu society was so rigid at the time of Lord Caitanya that the Hindu got converted into a Mohammedan. There was no chance of his being reformed in this way. The Mohammedan population indeed increased. None of the Muhammadans came from outside social customs. Somehow or other forced Hindus to become Mohammedans with no chance of returning to Hindu society. Emperor Aurangzeb also inaugurated a tax that Hindus had to pay because of their being Hindus. Thus all the poor Hindus of the lower class voluntarily became Mohammedans to avoid the tax. In this way the Mohammedan population in India increased. Shankazi threatened to convert the people into Mohammedans by the simple process of sprinkling water on their bodies. The Brahmanas, this famous story of one Lord, he was sprinkled with the water. So then they said okay, now here Muhammad and he went to all the Brahmin Pangits that how do I get purified from this? And they told them well one pandit said he had to take two kilos of ghee, cook it up until it's boiling and then drink it hot. He said I'll die, yes, but next birth he'll take birth as a Hindu. Thank youk Pandya ji. You know, so like this it was because the Brahmins were so rigid. All it took is someone had to sprinkle a little water and then you were a Muhammadan, okay, you were sprinkled. That's was so easy to convert people. It's amazing that the whole country is not Muhammad. But one of the reasons that Lord Chaitanya, he said that if you chant Hare Krishna you get purified. He was the first one to reform people. So so many people that were supposedly converted by water process. He told them you can chant Hare Krishna three times, you're purified, no problem. I mean it's one thing if people believe in a particular religion. We respect all their religions as ways of serving God. But this idea that just by sprinkling somebody when we do Harinam sometimes people throw things at us. That is enough to convert us and we'd all be finished. But thanks till Chaitanya Mabu's mercy. That's not the way. Neither we sprinkle people, we give them Harinam, we also sprinkle them. That's just giving them mercy. So it's pretty heavy. He's going to convert everybody. The Katsi returned home. The devotees shocked that they were forbidden with chant Hare Ka submitted their grief to Lord Chaitanya Mah Prabra Prabhu Kirtan mui sanghan. Lord Chaitanya ordered, go perform Kirtan today I shall destroy all the Javans. The prophet said it's not necessary to commit violence to stop the opposition from hindering a movement. For one can kill their demonic behavior. Reason, arguments. Following in the footsteps of Lord Chaitanya Mah Prabhu Whenever there are obstacles, the Hare Krishna woman should kill the opposition with reason and argument and thus stop their demonic behavior. If we became violent in every case, it would be difficult for us to manage our affairs. We should therefore follow in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya Mah Prabhu who disobeyed the order of Chan Qazi but subdued him with reason and eyeglim. Returning home, all the students began performing Sankirtan. But because of the order of the Qazi, they were not carefree but always full of anxiety. Prabhu mone jani kohi te la gila lo KE understand the anxiety within the people's minds. The Lord called them together and spoke to them as in the evening I shall perform Sankirta in each and every house. Therefore you should all decorate the city in the evening. At that time, Navadip was composed of nine small cities. So the words nagari nagari was significant. Shichetani Mahva wanted to perform Kirtan in each of these neighboring towns. He ordered a city decorated for the function in the evening. Burn torches in every home. I shall give protection to everyone. Let us see what kind of Qazi comes to stop our Kirtan. In the evening, Lord Gorsundar went out and formed three parties to perform Kirtan. This is a scheme for performing Kirtan in a procession. During Sir Caitanya Mahbhra's time, one party was composed of 21 men. Four people played midrangas, one leading the chanting and 16 other striking kartals responding to the leading chanter. If many men join the Sankirtan movement, they may follow the footsteps of R. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and form different parties according to the time and number of men available. So Prabhupada giving us a lot of instructions, we can form Sankirtan parties formidrangas we did. I don't know if he had 16 cartels. Everybody's afraid to bring out their cartels. You don't see them again. But that's Naya. We should try that. In the front party dance Haridas Thakur. In the middle party dance Advaitacharya. With great jubilation, Lord Gorsunda himself danced in the rear party and Sri Nithyananda Prabhu move with Lord Chaitanya's dance dancing by the grace of the Lord Sripa Nava and Thakur has elaborately described the incident as Chaitanya Mongol gives a detailed description. He went through the whole city murmuring in anger, making a roaring sound under like a roaring sound protection of Lord Chaitanya. He became mad through such indulgence. So there was a big civil disobedience. He ordered civil disobedience to the Qazi's order. Lord Chaitanya and all his devotees, naturally enthusiastic, although agitated, must have made a great noise with their loud cries. The loud sound of the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mantra certainly made the Qazi very much afraid and he hid himself within his room. Hearing the people thus protesting, murmuring in great anger, the Qazi would not come out of his home. Prabhupada was saying that the Qazi's order not to perform Sankirtan would stand only as long as there was no civil disobedience. Under the leadership of the Supreme Lord Chichitanya Mahaprabhu, the chanters increasing in number disobeyed the order of the Qazi. Thousands assembled together and formed parties chanting the Hare Ka Maha Mantra and making a tumultuous sound of protest. Thus the Qazi is very much afraid as naturally one should be under such circumstances in the present day also, people all over the world may join together in the Ka Conscious movement and protest against the present degraded governments of the world's godless societies which are based in all kinds of sinful activities. The Rmad Bhagavatam states that in the age of Kali, these rogues and fourth class people who have neither education nor culture capture the seats of government to exploit the citizens. This is a symptom of Kali Yuga that has already appeared. People cannot feel secure about their lives and property. Yet the so called governments continue and its ministers get fat salaries. Although they are able to do anything good for society. The Ka Conscious movement is not a sentimental religious movement. It's a movement for the reformation of all the anomalies of human society. If people take it seriously, discharging this duty scientifically as ordered by R. Catanya Mahaprabhu, the world will see peace and prosperity instead of being confused and hopeless under useless governments. So here Prabhupada, this is an immediate need for a good government. A government by the people with Ka consciousness. So Prabhupada is here promoting democracy. Ka Conscious democracy. Unless the masses of people become Ka Conscious, they cannot be good men. The Ka Conscious movement that R Citanya Mahu started by chanting Hare Ka Ma Mantra still has its potency. Therefore people should understand it seriously and scientifically and spread it all over the world. So Chaitanya Bhagava describes Lord Chaitanyamapaya. All the Ganges gods went to Ganganara, Somalia. And then after reaching Somalia, he went to the Qazi's house and reached the door of the Chankat. Naturally some of the people who were very much agitated began to retaliate the Qazi's action by wrecking his house and flower gardens. Srivanav and Dastakras elaborately described the incident. When Chichitanimabu reached the Qazi's house, he sat down by the doorway and sent some respectable persons to call for the Qazi. My dear Nimay Panit, what you have said is all true. Our scriptures have developed only recently and they are certainly not logical and philosophical. I know that our scriptures are full of imagination and mistaken ideas. Yet because I am Mohammedan, I accept them for the sake of my community. Despite their insufficient support. The reasoning arguments in the scriptures of the meat eaters are not very sound. Sunny asked you always in your town there's so much ending in Hare Krishna. But you don't very strongly condemn it. Why not? Then he told about that pastime. Auner Singha Dev appeared in his dream. He explained how Mohammedans complained. Hindus complained of Hindus said Nimai Pandit was a good boy. But when he came back from Gaya after his initiation, he got small spoiled. Now he just chants Hare Krishna. He's in real Maya. He loudly sings and dances and plays on Madrangas and Kartas. Deafens our ears. You gotta make him stop this. So everybody came to me and told me to stop you. They heard all these people. He told them, I will certainly prohibit Nimai Pandit from chanting the Hare Ka Mantra. I know that Narayana is supreme God of the Hindus. And I think you are the same Narayana as I feel within my mind. The Lord Chaitanya touched the Chankazi and said, you have dishanted the Holy Name three times. You said Hare Krishna, you said Narayana and Narayana. Therefore because you are chanting the Holy Names, I understand you are already purified. You have become supremely purified. And I found it. Sometimes you need people and I ask them, how many rounds do you chant? And they say, oh, no, I don't chant 16 rounds. I'm not a devotee yet. I don't chant Hare Ka much. But because even Lord Chaitanya said that you chant even one time, you're a devotee. And he used that with the Chankazi. When the Chankazi somehow two, three times said Hare Krishna Narayana said, you are supremely pure. You are a devotee. So we should encourage. Lord Caitanya was very all encompassing. Although his devouries were very strict in their circle. But he had the whole town chanting. It wasn't that everybody in the town was on the same level of spiritual practices. But the public congregational chanting of Hare Ka was so popular that somehow. So in our Ka conscious preaching, we stress the rules and regulations so much. And people, they don't even get the strength to even think about following these rules and regulations. Unless they chant Hare Ka, where it's very clear that Lord Chaitanya got everybody to chant first. And once they were chanting, then it was easy for them to follow the rules and regulations. We're putting. What do you call the cart before the horse. We got to get the people to chant first. And then when they're chanting and they get purified. Then they can actually start to follow rules. But if we put the rules first, people run away. People all over the world know Hare Krishna follow too many rules. I met one guy in the airport in Miami. And I said, oh, I'm Hari. He said, what? Rizzila Diufa. I was wearing, you know, like devotee clothes. Salam, Hare Krishna. Oh, I know you guys. You control your sex. You only have sex for children. But I'm a Christian. We're allowed to have unlimited sex with the blessing of Lord Jesus Christ.
You don't know anything about Hare Krishna. Only thing you know is that we follow all kinds of rules and regulations. Because we're totally harsh. So then by the time of Lord Chaitanya, Everybody knew that that wasn't the calling card. The calling card was that everybody chanted Hare Krishna. They knew that the top devotees were very pure. Everybody was encouraged to chant so they could get the whole city of Nadinee. We gather in front of the Shankazi's house. Hundreds of thousands of people. Somehow we have to popularize Hare Krishna. This is the yoga of the modern age. I read recently a scientific study that said that for dealing with Stress in the modern world. They found that the best cure, the best whatever cure or remedy is meditation. And they said that the most effective meditation that they found after all their studies was mantra meditation. Even the materialistic psychologists, they're also endorsing mantra meditation. We should be riding on the waves of this type of endorsement and say everybody can when they get home and if I can, I have to follow all these. Those are optional or something. Somehow let that come later. Once they start chanting, they feel so happy that then the rules become easy. But until they taste the happiness, then the rules seem like how will I be happy if I can't do all these things which are only the source of my happiness? The ones they taste happiness from chance then it's easy for them to follow the rules of recreations. So by hookah, by crook, we gotta get them to chant first. And once they chant, they give a case where Ka consciousness then their rules are easy. At least they're feasible for them to consider. What's interesting is the head Shankazi used to order that all time all of his descendants they should not obstruct the chanting of Sankirtar movement. And I met about 30 when I first came to my uncle here 25 years ago. I've been here 35 years so maybe 30 years ago I met one of the descendants of the chapter he was like 12 or 13th generation from the Shanghai. He was also famous. Our forefather gave the order this is the fourth Hari. It was very historical, the right descendant Sometimes we should probably find out who they are and find one over for the rest of. Because next year is the 500 anniversary for the starting of the Sankirta movement. Probably the 500th anniversary of the order of. Of the Steph passage. Anyway, that's a well known story but this guy is going in detail. Sahara means the highest instruction. But he really has high expectations that by mastering Go Hare Ka he should mobilize a lot of Also the way Lord Caitanya did interfaith preaching he was willing in the cigars with the Muhammadans using their Shastra and using the comparative religion and discussing and convincing them alive what things they said weren't even supported by their own scriptures. Neither was it logical. Prabhupada did this also when he met with some cardinals and he said the Bible says thou shalt not kill. So why are you killing animals? No, no, that means murder. It doesn't say murder, it says kill. To murder human beings and kill animals. I heard yesterday that the Sufi the Sufi Muslims are Vegetarian.
Somehow.
It'S legal to. There's nothing illegal about preaching to different religions here in India we're generally only focusing on the majority population. It would be good to have some kind of outreach program for everyone. Anyway, that was at the end of it. Shamkazi was ecstatic. Here's more income, here's ice. He was completely won over by Lord Chaitanya. But it took a little high risk of being civil disobedience. And I know that in the west it was like that. I was in Montreal and we did harinam downtown in Montreal and the police stopped us us. And we continued to do it and they arrested us. I was sent. I was in jail over 90 because of Shannon. At the time of the police chief. We have to go. Canada wasn't so hard that we had to get certain commissions. They gave us certain Arctic Channel certain places. They were a little bit reasonable, but fast and easy. We had to like really push for it. In America we have to go to court and fight for the right of sin. There were people who misunderstood some devotees.
In.
Kentucky, Tennessee, what is it? Mount Nashville, the other cities. Knoxville, Tennessee. There was a temple there and they were sleeping in the temple and they threw a bomb through the window and killed one or two devotees. These are like unsung heroes who actually sacrificed their life to start the Hare Kish Nabu. We know about the Russians who were put in jail because of the oppression of the Soviets and how some dying in jail and one devotee they were given shockers. There are still countries in the world where we're not allowed in Shanghai Krishna are not allowed to practice. So the world is still suffering under the kind of injustice and somehow the devotees need to mobilize. When the Soviets were oppressing the devotees, there was a worldwide mobilization with the Sri Pila singing the song image to Gorbachevs and the Free which hit the top hidden music charts and things.
But some.
I don't know how there's like, you're not allowed to go into Singapore as a Hare Krishna. Of course, China is still oppressing us in different countries in the future. Even in France we're declared as we're allowed to do things here. But we call that the dangerous gold or something. There's a lot of misconception around the world. And the devotees tend to be very much united and very much dynamic to follow in the footsteps of Chicheni Parasugu and see that is the consciousness of acceptance and that it's permitted. Yes. If someone is for criticizing. If someone for criticizing, he Is chanting Hare Krishna or something, or he is.
Saying like.
His Krishna is like this or that, then how, how we should respond? Well.
The question was because if someone.
Likes jokes about Krishna or if they're.
Critical about Krishna, how do you respond?
There's the past time in Chaitanya Bhagavad when one drunkard was chanting Hare Krishna mocking Lord Chaitanya.
And that marks a Tamiya Sabiha.
The benefit of chanting would be to his eternal benefit. But he's obviously under alcoholic influence. That will only last for one day. But he was just being jokey.
He was just.
An unhappy mood. But if somebody is very specifically criticizing Kaen, like he should cut out his.
Tongue with reason and logic.
You can start to question him. On what basis? You can say all these things where the person is very unreasonable. You can also leave the place. Just leave this lock away, can the feet and leave. What do you know about Krishna? Who are you for one person? How many times Haki is prophet says, I don't want to hear from you. You're not my guru. What do you know? I was born preaching in a college hostel. And then one guy just started blaspheming Krishna.
Everything.
Since anyway, I was like kind of illegally in the hostel selling books. Then I just. And I was a new devotee. So I just turned around, walked away. I just turned on my heels and walked away. I said, you're wrong. You know what you're talking about. I turned around, walked away. And then he was like so shocked. And I just, you know, besides some people. I remember I once went into one businessman's office to try to convince them to become a light member.
And I was showing him all these.
Pictures and he just started shouting at me.
You people are a bunch of cheers. You people are good for nothing. This religion is nothing.
Da, da just started screaming and shouting at me. I sat there looking and said, what's wrong with this guy? You know?
And after he got finished, I said.
No sir, it's not correct what you're saying.
You see, we're doing good preaching here.
We're changing people all over the world.
We're not like that.
I don't know who someone's misled Yehovah.
He was so shocked because he thought.
That by screaming and shouting at me and calling me bad name that he was going to completely discourage me. And when it didn't have zero effect, I didn't even take it serial. I just kind of on reaching, she.
Said, you know, I was just testing you. In those days, that was the donation for life membership. It was in the very beginning. See you. May you meet all kinds of crazy people. You never know. You gotta be cool. But if it's too offensive, you can walk away. Otherwise you can defeat the person. You ask questions. What do you know about Ka? Who are you to say all these things? Shankaracharya. All the great Acharyas except Krishna, supreme personality of Ghariya. Any other question? Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna Maharaj. It's mentioned in Chaitana, Charita, Vrita that Purari Gupta acted as Garuda and took.
Lord Chaitanya on his back. Is there a connection between Hanuman and Garuda that we don't know?
Just devotees can also go in the ecstasy of other devotees. When Lord Chaitanya was in the ecstasy of Vishnu, then of course we know that Hanuman also carried Rahman Lakshman on his back. I don't know of any specific connection. I just understood this to mean that he also went into the ecstasy of Garuda. Vishnu needed a Garuda so that he went into that ecstasy. But of course these pastimes are all very deep. And maybe there are some deeper meanings to become revealed. Who else had a question? Labanga. Nothing working. You turned it off. Gotta push it up.
Yesterday you speak about Lord Nityananda. I always wondered why did Lord Nityananda and Lord Chaitanya start so separated?
Why did Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nithyananda start separated and took so long to meet? Interesting question. Of course they were together in Vrindavan. But in this case Ibalaram. One of his Leelas is to visit the holy places around India. So when would it fit in? It only fits in before Lord Caitanya starts the Sankirtan movement. Is that one of the reasons or that Lord Balaram didn't need him, Wasn't needed for Lord Caitanya's Brahminical pastimes. Because at that time the older brother of Lord Chaitanya was Visaroop. And he was also the incarnation of Sankarshan who is an expansion of Balaram. So in a sense Nithyananda was there through Vishwaroop. So he was already. The Balaram feature was there. But as the older brother. So these things are very confidential. Every time, every pastime the Lord has, there's some difference. Little bit of difference. They're not stereotyped. Once the Sankirtan movement started hitting on the joint, there was also a special mercy on Ekha Chakra and all the people of Radish One of the things about Gormando Bhoomi is that there's lots of mercy of having different associates of Lord Chaitanya coming all over the Gora Mandal Bhoomi from the Pundarik Vidyanini and Chatagram on the one corner to the Kanaynathshala on the other corner to the parents of Lord Chaitanya appearing in Sri Hatha on the far north eastern corner of Bangladesh the Vasugosh and other associates who appeared in Midnipur and Rimuna which is the other corner. These are like the four pillars of the four corners of Gormandal Bhumi. So they appeared all over spreading their mercy. So there's a verse somewhere that said the associates of Lord Caitanya appeared around Goramandal Bhoomi just to help deliver those people. So which are all of the reasons mentioned above where Nithyananda's reason are more on top of that also. But he did Hare Ka thank youk Lubanga.
When we hear Kirtan leaders in the temple or here comes singing some of these creative mantras in the Krishna's name but don't dispel us to Is it then okay to sit down and be quiet and wait for the I.
Don'T know which is the creative mantras. Oh, some of the mantras are if the like Prabhupada said mainly we should chant Hare Krishna Panchatava and here in Mayapur we can chant Hari Harari Namakrishna Prabhupada seem to tolerate short Hari bowls and a few others but if it went too long then he would ask them to chant Hare Ka again Other mantras should be very short just like maybe it's a transition between the Kirtans or something. Sometimes we have to keep our main stay is that these mantras some things Mitai Gor Haribola some things seems to be mildly tolerated But Bhakti Vinod Thakwa said devotees will chant Jai Sachinandan Gurhari and things like that. So occasionally we chant the names of Lord Chaitanya remembering that the previous cryas mentioned but that Prabhupada wanted us to focus on the main mantras we don't Sometimes people chant for hours susw things like that which weren't there during the time of Prabhupada. So I meant to avoid getting creating whole new traditions. Any other question? Just testing the Mahapashada. She was very sweet. I was preaching once in Sri Lanka where mainly we were preaching to the Tamil people Although now we also preach to the Similese people. But it was in the hill country and there were many temples of Ganesh and Morgan and other Shiva Amun, Devi Durga. Someday I would be speaking and preaching from the Bhagavatam. So they came one time, they criticized. They say, why is it you only speak from Bhagavad Puran? What about Skandha Puran, Shiva Puran? Because mainly many Tamils are worshippers of Shiva and his his family. So they felt uncomfortable that only we were mentioning Bhagavad and Puran. So then I looked through the folio and found that there was like 65 verses from Shiva and Skandha Puran that were quoted in different parts of Prabhupada's books. So I copied them all down. So one of the verses from Skandha Purana, it says that if you chant the two syllables that this name of the Lord, it means that the Lord will steal away from you. I tell everybody get worried. Oh no, what did I just lose, right? He'll steal away from you all your suffering, all your misfortune, all you have bad qualities. That's all right. Nobody minds losing, okay? Steal those things. Steal away all your bad grades. Just leave the good ones. Last question.
Guru Maharaj. Yesterday he was telling that La Nitya and the Saspan places, Nekhachukra are joyful as well as sad.
No, because he left there at age of 12. So all the devotees are feeling separation that he left. When we go there, we go there. In the beginning of our safari, we go first to Eka Chakra, then Kanaynathshala Molda. Those that just want to go for a week, you can talk to Marizzi. We go. We don't take money, transfer trains. So first few days go by buses. But they'll be living. I don't know how many. If he has any room in the buses left, but you go to those places. Then there's a train from Maldives that comes back to Mayapur. Takes a few hours of Navati. But I'll tell some of the pastime there now, tomorrow's Gor Purnima. So we're going to be focusing on Lord Chitan. The Lord never confirmed who he was. Question was. It seems that in the beginning, at the birth of Lord Chaitanya, Advaita Acharya sensed that the Lord was going to appear. But then later, it didn't seem to make any reaction until Lord Chaitanya revealed himself. So since the Lord is coming in disguise and the Lord never identified himself. So when finally Lord Chaitanya identified that I am the Lord that you are praying for. Then Advaita became very ecstatic. Okay, I got a confirmation before that wasn't clear what you're supposed to do because Lord is coming as a devotee, coming in disguise. Obviously Advaita was observing. We don't know what he knew, what he didn't know. We presume that he probably knew, but he just was keeping it to himself. But when the Lord reveals, even then Andrew wanted to test test him. Make the Lord prove that he was. He might have this idea what's the proof? So he put Lord Caitanya through some test and he passed the test. So it was very clear that Lord Chaitanya was actually Krishna. Okay, thank you very much everyone. Have a happy Gora Purna. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel.
