A recorded group discussion (transcript) in which devotees recount and analyze Srila Prabhupada’s personal qualities, humility, and missionary activity. Speakers enumerate a list of qualities (mercy/compassion, submissiveness/humility to his guru, truthfulness, equality, magnanimity, mildness, cleanliness, lack of material attachment) and share concrete anecdotes illustrating each (accepting a man who gifted toilet paper, arranging service for a newly met person, leaving India with minimal possessions, prayers written upon arriving in America). The tone is devotional and reminiscential; the focus is on how Prabhupada’s character enabled the global spread of Krishna consciousness.
Let's see how many more minutes.
Sa.
Now we should take advantage of one lane. And this guy saw some of the wonderful qualities of swift velvet. We have put 26 qualities of the low tea and a few more qualities of anchor. Put it in here in the basket. Whenever they take their pig wants to participate. And we'll go through each quality. Whoever Hansen. We'll have the first opportunity to say sahin about Prabhupada. An example of how he exemplifies that particular quality and how he manifests in it. But I'll say something and then if you have one time. It takes some more controversial food like that. Just give you a little time to think about it. You know that one of the things in Sanskrit to describe to Krishna and his pure devotees is called Guna Dhamma Guda means quality. Dhamma is abode, reservoir. So many good qualities. And Srila Prabhupada. He had so many wonderful qualities. And try to meditate for problem 108 on. You can help each other. You want some help. All the gavers one the backyard. We don't know this is all mixed up. So we don't know who which. All we need is an order. Whoever has someone gets all the papers so that we know who didn't get what the first one is. Which means merciful. Who's got that one collecting cards. So you get the first chance to say some realization. You have no help as a person. Can you put those blinds down? Y' all hear that? So the Prabhupada Sumhurst were coming over to the west to bring us Krishna consciousness. I remember that there was a temple passage and had a fall down here in Australia. And Prabhupada got the notice the letter. And I was in his room and they told him that he had a problem. And so they threw him out of the temple. The devotees of Ronan, whoever was the leader at that time and the Prophet read the letter and he was dictating a reply saying that he was in the Bodhisattvas for a long time. He had some Taliban. Maybe this is compassionate or most of biliberal study who are cut to length that we should give him up. We should try to bring him back to Krishna consciousness. We should fall out of sleep, lay him three times to come back to Krishna consciousness and not worry about somehow try to Satan. So I think that to me that was a good example of how God would immersive it. But also is this like my effort Srila Prabhupada. He was so concerned that people should be able to take up ka consciousness around the world. Maybe that's there also. There was one person. He stopped on the road and just started talking to him. And then Prabhupada asked about his situation. Then made an arrangement so that he could serve in the temple all he wants much engine. But he asked him, what do you know how to do? He said, I know how to handle. Can you work handles? So he had to go out and buy a handloom to facilitate this person so he could make handloom God for Krishna. He went to live there and do some service. And he came at the moment and he's now Prabhupada disciple Ali Guru Das who is in charge of the Prabhupada. Not defiant. Okay, Rastika have an example how Prabhupada was defined. Kind of like submissive.
I think he accepted everything. Wasn't refined in the sense that he used to listen and talk to everyone. And he actually nailed someone said hey, this is mine. This is what I do was that I accepted evidence with everything and was.
Very not at all so happy client for me that everyone may have a different realization of me. That was like one hand spiritual master. He said that he was sitting in Jerdalan listening to the lecture of a spiritual master. And another Godbrother came up and tapped him on his shoulder. But he was ignoring it and trying to watch the spiritual hear the spiritual master. The God boy kept tapping and tapping and tapping. And so finally, because of the Rana Sistemas pushing of this devotee, he looked over to find out what he wanted. As soon as he looked over then Bhakti Siddhanta Sara Siddhicur he like broke whatever he was talking and then directly addressed avoid. Oh God, you don't mean to listen. Don't mean to listen. And then Prabhupada and he just continued. He didn't divide or anything or wasn't me. I didn't do nothing. But it was very submissive. And Rav took that as a special mercy. The Kauf has recognized that his Prabhupada, his spiritual master recognized him. And so that was. That was one example of the problem. Was always very submissive and humble to his spiritual master. I see that he was dedicated carrying out and the order of Srila Bhakti Siddhan Saraswati Thakur publishing the books lauding Mayapur establishing untidy forever Siddhartha. Siddhartha serves what the Thakur said. How can he never define them? He remained grave and Wild to them. Satya sara sama. Thoroughly true. Who's got that one? Thoroughly true. That's a lawyer also for Srila Prabhupada to send this message of Bhagavad Gita, the teachings of Bhagavad Gita to the Western world and convince them it's a miracle. So I'm sure what he has said must be thoroughly true. Otherwise it's not easy for someone to debate the Western world, which claims to be very knowledgeable, I think. And both the books he said must be entirely true. And for the spiritual master that say that also requires some truthfulness, really truthfulness. Not to bluff you, not to reveal in any long wrong way that are all known to be true. From his world, from the shadows and the Shastra destiny with heathen. Because of that he could speak with tremendous authority. He wasn't basing it on his own speculations or compassions or anything. I think it was really true because it was based on the Shastra. Next one. Minosha Osama Ego. I think from what I've heard from his equality could be related to say his acceptance of charity. Whether it was a large package or even something very, very small. Would I incorrect that indifferent material acquisitions. Recite what I heard. Someone said that during after a lecture a man walked up to Srila Prabhupada and dumped a half a dozen or so toilet rolls onto his lap. Srila Prabhupada just thanked him for the charity. So he wasn't. He didn't reopen the act, he just accepted the service, he accepted the charities. And I think it was an illustration of his equality and how he accepted the charitable bhakti in someone. I know the actual story. It was in the 26 second album in New York City and won three people. When Afro American youth can maybe like 6 foot, 6ft 7 meters. One of us, 2 meters high, very large body person walks in the door with a big box who had his shoes on, walked back into the class, walked in the temple and plopped them on the box. And he was carrying his box. And then he said the Prabhupada looked at him and said what is this? This is a gift for you. And the Prabhupada asked someone to see what it is. We went to look. There was toilet paper. So then he take him over there by the toilets. And the van general walked off. The prophet found that he has a good service attitude. The prophet also found the little spark of goodness. You can say the guy is a cancer. He's true. You don't walk into the temple with his shoes on. There's a thousand things he did wrong, not thousands. But he picked up the one good thing. He had a good service attitude. He came in, went to office. Only in Christian people take him.
So.
Anyone else want to add Hindu to something about problems? Before they were initiative they met Prabhupada. And Prabhupada didn't discriminate. Keeping Monoparishi was very not very qualified. And so usually they had previously met some other guru in New York who had seen his potentiality. Where is how much he could have gained from from this person. So he kind of singled him more out than Namayuna, who was a very young, simple boy that night. But look at the same powerful equally. That wasn't like discriminating people based on their mature qualification, but accepted everyone equally based on their sincerity. The Prabhupada took everyone from all walks of life and backgrounds. Everybody. Thank you. Another aspect of the polity is being able to deal with everybody. Like I said Shiloh, he would talk with the Mohammedan farmers and chat with them, talk with the Greek government officials. Gentlemen, he was equal with everybody to talk to everybody, relate to everyone. Somebody said to me also, yes, you can come here and you can perform your five namaz a day. But you also have to chant during Krishna 16 months. What's the next one who has faultless? Glenn's father. I forgot your name. Rajan. Yeah, Rajan. His wife is also a spoken as a new devotee. I play with everything, but with faults. I guess it's only Lord Krishna is born is pure and the rest of us have some faults on instruction. And so they believe we are not fathers, we are all born with fault. So how would Prabhupada qualify to be there? So just by being in contact with Krishna and the Bhagavata. Purely the biggest follow, as Swami said, because Krishnas pure. Anyone who is perfectly following Mishnah, they are also pure, right? Two things equal to the same thing when you do to each other. Krishna is pure. You follow Krishna, you're pure. Because he was perfectly following Ka Consciousness, presenting only the pure message of Krishna. Therefore he also became faultless. He didn't have any other ulterior motive for doing things Material world. There is four defects, four faults. That's imperfect senses, mistakes, devotion and cheating propensity. So he says he wasn't basing things on his own mental speculation or concoction. He was basing on Ka's teachings. So he wasn't subject to this making mistakes or being an illusion because he was purely honest. So he wasn't cheating anybody. He avoided the cheating prophets and sins nor to impress somebody just tell them something that they might like to hear whether it's true or not. This is why we and.
I was.
Thinking about the situation he had to modify change some other things like letting them remember stain that happened and giving sannyas to the young devotees like that which was he precise by singular devotees. But Prabhupada did all that became enabled to spread Krishna consciousness without any ultimate motive. So which showed that apparently they look like contradictions but they were all kotlin sanctions to go by them. Prabhupada's beautiful prayers that he wrote when he arrived to America surrendering the living out to Krishna and asking Krishna take him like a puppet and make him dance whichever way he wanted to use him in the Lord's service. It showed his totally un. What's the word? Unassuming, surrendered attitude towards the Lord which made his actions faultless not contaminated by the material normal kind of motivations like us act under the chair of three worlds. So we're done here. Magnanimous. Who's got magnanimous? Wow.
I think we all know the various I think we all know the various ways. Srila Rupa was very very nice. He didn't keep his want to hear. He didn't keep his knowledge of Krishna to himself. He spread it. He shared it with us. He was so generous in giving us knowledge instructions. How to serve Sri Krishna, how to serve Sri Rana Rani how to serve the Vaishnavas, how to cook lovely Sabjis and Rasmussen. Rasmussen satisfy us, satisfy for all ourselves and Vaishnavas. He was so generous in his wound.
Of.
Tolerating so much and just enabling us even though we keep falling, stumbling and falling giving us so much adoration even till this day to follow along remind us that Krishna is beckoning us back to him. I think he.
You should have a dictionary for all the different Compassionate, merciful, very merciful. We analysts of some of the different options we have so merciful long habit dictionary. They're losing someone else from a very fallen condition in this person being very kind to people who otherwise don't deserve it as a mercy piece. Magnanimous Generous generous like Prabhupada was in Vrindava he could get liberation easily Go back to Ka he was there in Varadamana temple there's a beautiful deities with Rupa Goswami Samadhi Mountir it was the end of his life. Who takes all that risk to go in the west Vistas or vaishas. We require tremendous magnality to leave that very secure, spiritually secure environment in a very risky situation to go into a frontier to give out something right freely to the wrong people. So that to me this comes to, I mean I would miss like her time to meditate on these lives in all heaven. This kind of we're coming up spontaneously. But Nina seems to be a prime example of God's humanity. Allah said that all the temples shivnam feed hungry people with Krishna Prasada how they should go hungry in a 10 mile radius everywhere in the world. He wanted the temple to give up the shaman. I think magnanimous also promotes someone who's very high position making a generous offer. That's that connotation thing. So Prabhupada also, I remember, I think it was when they were having one day he was saying how there was glorifying Prabhupada so much. And Prabhupada was saying, actually you know, I haven't done anything. He said, you know, actually I'm not very good, but with all of you I am very good. But he was saying to his disciples actually did all the work for him even though he went out. He was saying, actually it's all of you who are doing it. I'm just helping you out. For me that was like very magnanimous things to say. You're the one who was doing it. I was here because he's such an adult personality, he still didn't want to pay the credit for himself. Actually, this word magnanimous is from the root of the word. It means Latin means great and magnus means the soul. So it's actually the equivalent of the word Mahatma in Sanskrit. So in that sense, because Srila Prabhupada is surrender to Ka, his Mahatma as explained in the Bhagavad Gita. Someone who surrenders to fully decrease Krishna is Mahatma. Is a true Mahatma. You say someone who's manifest to Krishna is Mahatma. And that's also yeah, turning the ocean of nectar here. Who's going to be the next in line? We have here Minu who has miles.
Yeah, I know Patroup and I know him. I know him personally just through. But things that come to my mind.
Are.
Well, my own gentle. I might, you know, mildness. He was awake. But because he had mass effect everything in a situation that he could resignate with my tempo or feel into horrendous Or Srirampa was always able to divert it everything in some other way. It's always kept me level headed in.
Smile okay, I welcome. It's a good fine mild manner that sometimes he would ask basic questions but he would mildly. You have another. You seem to know a lot of Latin. What's your definition of mild? The I remember I was because I was Ramadan was like hands on managing my own myself earlier. So a lot of time I got. I got chastised for the limits on the steel. You might think why am I using this as an example for wildness? Because I remember one time after giving me the sauce for a few of what I did wrong. But I just remember that I got severely chastised or whatever it was. Then Prabhupada called me in and he said very hard spiritual master, how can you tolerate me? Oh, that was the worst. How can you tolerate. And he was speaking in such a loud voice just to see whether you know how much damage was done. So what I said no. But whenever instruction gave like that. But like that he had sometimes he could be firm, he could be very assertive. And because we tend to only respond to emotion because somebody gives you a very important instruction in a very flat way and not emotional. How does this have a bigger impact? He didn't go over the rhythm. But then on the other hand he thought maybe I pushed too much. He very mildly in this way of repairing things mother. But anyone else has any example they'd like to share?
Marshes the wild mannerisms will take care of more gentler emotions within other people and devotees. So they will.
There were this mild moment like Kaushat all about with his younger God sister who was also his material sister. It's hard to really express. He used to say that how there are three years difference. So he was the bigger brother. So when they were children then big brothers protect their younger sister. They're still going to take their toys. Different kinds of things happen. So he would very passionately mention his long standing relationship and then how he had worshipped Radhakrishna deities. And Akwahi went to college and gave his deities to his younger sister. And she took us to our worship. He goes how well we had those on our altar in Mayapur and unfortunately they were stolen when they were attacked by dachmans. Those of our people lost. And there was like one time Kissima who we called his Shizang auntie, his Kishima brother, the father's sister. She was. She came in prepared all handsome things for Srila Prabhupada. In that time Prophet had a special diary. And they broke every rule and started one time I could see he was like upset. Why she did at the same time then he just talked with her in a very mild manner. She didn't want to hear it. You should eat this. It's good for you. She was very affectionate. Vaishnava viewings. One time Prabhupada told her he had stomach ache and diarrhea. So she prepared him half ways with salt. He didn't think that how was that going to help diarrhea. But Prabhupada said it was a cure. It's like there's some kind of a mystic tower. Be like here's Diana. He felt a place of dysentery. And he was taking reactive or not. There was a lot of tenderness, you know, in her powers or personal feelings. Everyone fed office with their mouth. One time Prabhupada God brothers came and he asked us about Nidra. And you know, he could see that they were like speaking very sternly with Prabhupada. They were complaining about something. Prabhupada was just mightily tolerating and listening to them. And they left. And Prabhupada come into Daesh. He doesn't think that that was the proper way that he should. I passed him like that. He seemed like he was just being very humble and violent about the whole thing. Didn't overreact to it. He wasn't too happy about what the next word is. Sushi. Sushi. Rasheshwari.
I think shown us by example the cleanliness both of his personal and standing at the sacred temples that he's out. And he just gave us a really good example of how things is so important. And I think he embodied the saying that cleanliness is next to loneliness. So when he was in the most important circumstances he was always cleanliness personal. And as I understand that he expected that of his demotes as well. And of course with the 10 of his SN. I have the husband and I photograph him into a social park while on Kartik. And he was taking a bucket path. And just this is what comes up in my mind when I heard that he just. You know, he was anyone who had not much facility at all. Have so much facility to be caved.
And also means cleanliness. That reminded me saw his disciples how to eat without touching. Because if you eat something and then you touch your mouth then your mouth is considered to be unclean. So then by going to trade off your qualities again tough one. So Everybody should try one for each person. So the disciple, I think it was Brahmananda. Actually Prabhupada took a sweep. He had a bowl in his desk of his coconut Madhu. He took my cup in his mouth from a distance without touching. And he gave one to Brahman and some other person was there. And then he said, you do the same thing. The first time he touched his lip go. You touched unclean God. Wash your hand washing him from bed. See that? Without touching we popped him. His nose tangled, popped him was sore. So this time he tried coughing. And he was trying to teach devotees from the west how to clean her pain without touching, how to eat, wash after drinking. And he had the shastra that says if you go to the toilet, you should wash yourself so many times. 11 times with mud. 14 times 11 times 7 times left hand. It's only like 20. Sometimes you have to wash yourself with mud. So what they do? I didn't have mud. If you didn't clog your toilets up and your sinks up and then mud and rest. So he said, you are washing him three times with soul. So he adapted things from Banyanius. In the west. You know, there's two kinds of internal and external. So one side is the external. You would like to say anything about internal bandinus turning it mentioned that it was good that the internal cleanliness. Especially when you do needy Washington. Yes, the waterside word, his holy name. What becomes cleansed internally, externally. So how does constant governing Krishna say? He was the most winged person. But also he would always like some kind of look and say your fingernails, your toenails, your uncanny. He would be checking up on the devotees whether they were clean, their hands, their feet were dirty. He was also training his disciples while he was he clean. While he was training his disciples also understanding of Daniel. Let's see the next one after sushi means become without material possessions. Who's that one? What's your name again?
Well, Prabhupada left India on the Jalaju. So without any material possessions, the Arianes are serial. And raised in spirituality shows his surrender and love and determination.
In a class he will sing because there's the word Akinsha Gochara and the Bhagavatam and the prayers of Virti Akinshana. To have nothing. How wonderful it is to have nothing. You can't appreciate that till you have something. You have children, you have a husband, you have a wife, you have a house, you have a car. Wow. There's so many things you got to watch out for. Mother's looking. What's she going? What are you going? So when he thought he didn't have anything, then he thought, I won't be happy until I have all the things. When they have all the things, it's a big woe. So I kid you not having nothing. But Raman had nothing. He was one of the richest. He could stay the richest gurus in the world. There were temples all over the world. But Prabhupada once mentioned that although I have all these palatial temples, I can't stay anymore. I can only stay two, three days. But I've been cursed by my parents of my disciples. I have the curse of Dharma. So I can't stay in the temples. So I just traveling from one place to next. A beautiful temple somewhere. He could stay there, enjoy the ownable facilities. But instead he'd be there a few days preaching, educating the disciples in class and go out of the Mishras. So it's another way of a kinshana. Without maternal possession. Everything was dedicated to Ka. Very sad. The Prabhupada master, founder, like most spiritual heads of some movement. Spiritual movement. They name the movement after themselves. The Chinmayananda movement, the Guru Maharaji movement, whatever. There are so many different. They named it after themselves. I don't have to mention all the names for these people, but here. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day.
