#JayapatakaSwamiArchives Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 9.11.2-5 || Melbourne, Australia #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

This is a multi-speaker YouTube lecture (Melbourne) discussing Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 9.11.2–5 and the example of Lord Ramachandra giving his kingdom to priests. The speakers explain Varnashram Dharma—roles and qualities of Brahmanas and Kshatriyas—quoting Bhagavad Gita virtues (peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, wisdom, knowledge, religiosity). The talk transitions to practical discipline: cleanliness, austerity (tapa), self-control, and anecdotes about Prabhupada's insistence on cleanliness to illustrate how scriptural norms apply in contemporary devotional communities.
Ram. Sami Haray. Sam. Ram. It's Sam. It's. It's Ram. Ram. It's.
Melbourne.
Maham He.
Sunday feast Key all goodies to the simple devotees. All goodies to the Asimal devotees. Now Lord Ramachandra gave the entire east to the Hota priests, the entire south to the Brahma priest, the west to the Andwaryu priest, and the north to the Ugata priest, the reciter of the Psalm of Ava.
In this way he donated his kingdom. Hota is the one who puts into the fire, right? And the Brahma is who's in charge.
Of the whole thing.
The chief priest.
Who supervises what is done in the sacrificial arrangement.
That's usually what they ask him for.
Is whose manner it.
And it says, hear that Thee Gatra is the one who's chanting the sum of Ada.
Give away everything, all the east, west.
North and south to the four principal priests who in the Yajna.
Thereafter thinking that because the Brahmanas have no material desires, they should possess the entire world. When Ramachandra delivered the land between the east, west, north and south to the.
Other Acharya, so the Acharya is a.
Spiritual master, and he got northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest. And thus after giving everything interior to the Brahmanas, Lord Ramachandra retained only his personal garments and ornaments. And similarly Queen Mother Sita was left.
With only her nose ring and nothing else.
Today.
All the Brahmanas, all the Brahmanas who were engaged in the various activities of the sacrifice were very pleased with Lord Ramachandra, who was greatly affectionate and favorable to the Brahmanas. Thus with melted hearts they returned all the property received from him and spoke.
As follows.
By his Divine grace. In the previous chapter it was said that the Prajas, the citizens, strictly followed the system of Varnashra from Dharma. The Brahmanas acted exactly like Brahmanas, the Kshatriyas act exactly like Kshatriyas, and so on. Therefore, when Lord Ramachandra gave everything in charity to the Brahmanas, the Brahmanas, being qualified, wisely considered that Brahmanas are not meant to possess properly to make a profit from it. The qualifications of a Brahmana given in the Bhagavad Gita 18 chapter 40, second verse. Translation Peacefulness, Sabrina, control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, wisdom, knowledge and religiousness. These are the qualities by which the Brahmanas work. The Brahminical character offers no scope for possessing land and willingness citizens. These are the duties of Akshatriya. Therefore, although the Brahmanas did not refuse Lord Ramachandra's gift. After accepting it, they returned it to the king. The Brahmanas were so pleased with Lord Raghavan Chandra's affection toward them that their hearts melted. They saw that Lord Ramachandra, aside from being the supreme personality of of Godhead, was fully qualified as a Kshatriya and was exemplary in character. One of the qualifications of a Kshatriya is to be charitable. A Kshatriya ruler levies taxes upon his citizens not for his personal sense gratification, but to give charity in suitable cases. Danam Iswaram Bhava on one hand Kshatriyas have the propensity to rule, but on the other hand they are very liberal with charity. When Maharaj Rishiya gave charity, he engaged Karna to take charge of distributing. Karna was very famous as Datta. Karna, the word Datta refers to one who gives charity very liberally. The kings owed a large quantity of food grains and stock and whenever there was any scarcity of grains, they would distribute grains in charity. A Kshatriya's duty is to give charity and a Brahmana's duty is to accept charity, but not more than needed to maintain body and soul together. Therefore, when the Brahmanas were given so much land by Lord Ramchandra, they returned it to him and were not green. Thus ends the Bhaktivedanta Swami. Translation of Purport to the Sri Ramadan Bhagavatam, 9th canto 11th chapter, verses 2, 3, 4 and 5. In the matter of Lord Ramachandra rules the world. So Lord realm is shame. A supreme renunciation to give everything away. All they had left was Sita and Brahma. All they had left was their clothes.
And Sita had her clothes and nose ripped. Give everything they had in charity to the Brahmanas.
The Brahmanas gave it back again to Ramachandra.
The king used to manage the Chak.
Jews who manage the world. But being submissive to the highly qualified.
Brahmanas.
In Kali Yuga, if somebody gave a whole kingdom to a Brahmana, that.
Would be it, right?
We give it back.
Pretty doubtful.
These were so much a spiritually advanced prominence.
They were not attached. They were very happy to live in a simple way.
I was in South India. I visited one temple and the head.
Priest said he wanted a darshan. So he asked and he looked around.
Nobody is watching.
He said, you see, I have very intelligent boy. He has got college degree.
Please get him a job overseas. And I went into Australia somewhere.
I said you're head priest.
This is such a famous temple. He can also be the priest here and go back to godhead. No, no. I have one not so intelligent son, a bit illiterate.
He's the priest here.
But my intelligent one, I want him.
To go for this is a head priest, one of the main. I won't tell what temple they are, but one of the most famous temples in tribal level.
So.
This is where we stand if.
You'Re a literate, you guys.
Well, being a priest doesn't tame us, right?
So.
I know you got a job.
Overseas, you got a big facility, but here these priests are given the entire world.
But they're happy to live in a grass hut.
Unless they have enough masadam to eat. They're very happy.
So the Varnashram Dharma that we know.
Today is not what it was. It was really being very strictly followed.
Everybody was very much qualified. Even the demons.
Were charitable because they were Chakris.
Jara Samna who was attacking Krishna.
He was.
Went in disguise as a Brahmana and begged charity from him.
He said, yes, what do you want? I give you. He said, give me a fight.
I.
Want to fight with you. Then he revealed he was actually a demon.
But because he had given his word. Okay then, I'll give you charity. He gave us of Brahmana.
He said, okay, I'll give you the bhagt. Rather than again have a huge battle in between. He read so many. But how many times? 21 times, 28 times or so many times. He came again and again fighting with Krishna.
That was their nature to be very charitable. Dada Karna also.
They went and made.
From him the.
Arrow which could destroy Arjuna. He had one superhero which Arjuna didn't have a defense for make it for.
Him.
Because he gave us what he gave.
So even people were materialistic, but they had a very high character. That's why for common people it's good to read Mahabharata. Because people today lack character. Even the little believers, they're not honest, they're not character people. So it was inconceivable the Brahmanas were.
First of all that someone give away everything.
The whole world be bound to the last point. Now the Brahmanas would be so detached and give back whose quality Silva Brahmana, peacefulness, self control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, wisdom, knowledge and religiousness. Robert wanted that if the candidates for taking second initiation they should know these qualities, they should try to imbibe them. Our second initiated Nordisk should also work by Initiative this principle Samoda Mastapaya Sochan.
Would sometimes Elijah.
He said that wherever Brahman is that.
Must be clean.
And he will use the reverse sludges. If he found any dirt and criticized. You are not bona fide Brahmanas. How are the dirges here being a Brahmana? One time Baba was making a tour in Mayapur. You go on inspection those days Mavananda, myself and the co directors.
So.
Sometimes he went. We had a round.
Where the entrance, rear entrance to the Samadhi Sarah Samadhi. He had a circular bathroom. Ladies had the inside of the circle and the men used the outside. Because people were living alongside the boundary wall rooms in those days. So Prabhupada walked by, he took his cane and knocked open one of the doors to the external toilet. And there, sure enough, there was some.
Night soil.
In the toilet pan. Whoever used the last head unflushed. When Prabhupada turned and he started to address this seed dirt.
Brahmanas mean clean.
Brahmanas should clean up after themselves. When he started chastising.
So what kind of Brahmanas? You're all Brahmanas and here dirt is there.
It's not clean. Like everybody's thinking like wait a minute, I think just a toilet. Everyone's got some washing. It's not me. No problem. Didn't accept. He said Ramana means you're like responsible to see that everything in your area, everything in your presence, all clean. Sadhu was really serious.
Wow.
This Prabhupada got heavy. It got really serious. But there was one. GBC had just arrived from the UK.
And Jimin got out of his taxi.
Walked over, seeing Prabhupada who was walking and he saw Prabhupada Gitarvei the stars. What kind of Ramanas are you? And he says smiling or like I don't know.
And then Prabhupada would suddenly smile.
Everyone else was like, he's smiling, you know, like almost laughing, you know. And Prabhupada laid into him.
And you call yourself a Brahmana?
I just lied.
Then he just laid into him. You call yourself a Brahmana? You are here, dirt is here. What kind of Brahmana are?
So everybody got shocked. Couldn't believe I just arrived.
Your Baba was teaching us also the standard it was.
It may pick up one person and give a lesson. But then it wasn't meant personally. It wasn't a grudging type thing. A person will live there. It was very much a principle teach teaching. It's A lesson for people living in the ashram, the Briyamachary Ashram or the Suprihasta Ashram. Those following the Brahminical cultures should be very clean.
Prabhup would walk down the stairway, look up and see a cowboy and see what? Why is that.
You only clean your feet? You don't clean your head, you only clean the floor.
What about the roof? What about the ceiling? What about the carpet?
I don't know. Australia, you may not have so many comforts they have here too. Oh, they got those heavy killer spiders, but sorry. But in India, you know, cancer, cobwebs, lots of insects.
And so you had to clean up.
I remember in Vrindavan, Prabhupada was making a similar kind of tour that time go Pakistan. So well now kind of this way. And then he was also looking around. Everything clean. Everything is okay, Prabhupada. Okay. Prabhupada was in this little corner room on the right side. When they come into entrance of the main source, look rather all of a sudden a piece of straw fell down on Shlokova. He looked up and there was a chandelier. And in the chandelier there was a bird nest. Then Shlokov and playing with his king. What is that I mean by no friend of the balance to give a lecture. Buddha was telling him what he asked Puja that she was sponsoring Los Angeles for cleaning Prabhupada's room. And Prabhupada, after the reception in the temple and the class and prasad sweet distribution, came up to the roof, but to his second floor in his supporters. And she was feeling like really proud that I really cleaned this world, that everything was perfect. So Prabhupada Swami was very pleased with lots of mercy. And then Shivrapa came in and somehow sensed that her mood wasn't the right mood and started looking at her. He represented something wrong. Opening every drawer, looking all the things with open feeling, all the desktops, the size of the fingers. She start getting nervous. You're like sweating all. Yeah. Sometimes Rob would go, it's like military inspection. I don't know if you've ever been in the military.
You know, they go.
They put the finger on the top of the doors and stuff to see dirt, really. A copy of mirrors, you know, everywhere. This all has to be clean. So sometime around we get like that, you know, just if you want it to be super, just he's looking everywhere and she says.
Like.
Nervous. Prabhupada went to open up the window, but like Whenever Prabhupada comes to him, he'd always paint everything right before it came.
Sometimes you would ask why is always.
The smell of fresh paint? And so they've done this also.
But when you paint the window, you.
Have to also like quick open it when it's before it's dried. They didn't open. Was painted shut. How this check opens?
What is wrong with the window?
The windows don't open. What happened when problem came here? Who was here.
Then? You.
Could be like fun. They tried ask a stupid question. Yeah, there are people gathering stupid questions. One time I asked something about Radharani. I forget what it was. It was a new bhakta. Montreal Chicago looked at me. Who are you to ask about Radarani.
So.
Properly? But cleanliness, of course, is close to godliness. And cleanliness was a very important.
Quality.
Prabhupada always wanted. Like when you go to Mayampur. It was so much into cleanliness. Everything had to be cleaned. In effect. I've seen in one seed company where the owner of the seed company was a big estimate of a 2,3 hectare.
Area.
All warehouses buying wholesale seeds from the biggest seed supplier. So normally, I mean, seeds put off a lot of dark. But he would just have like five people. And they would start from one end and the other circuit A, B, C where they go? They clean. As soon as they finish, they start again and start cleaning. Then they do a three fourths. And the place was always so clean. Even though I was dealing with agricultural people. People driving with their tractors and buying seals. All she could was super clean. The Prophet will not stand there like that. Should be super clean. Just keep on king. Peacefulness, equal equality, equanimity and loss and gain. 12th chapter Bhagavad Gita expands his things. The power to be equal.
Feminine.
For me of praise and criticism. That's pretty tough, right? Everybody tends to feel really good when they're praised. When somebody chastises or you tend to feel down. Brahmanas tend to feel determined to serve Ka in all circumstances. Brahma sense self control or self control. Like sometimes someone does something. A tendency just to blurt out and say something. But the Brahmana has to be controlled. Think before they speak. Have any of you ever said something that later you regret at saying it? So DaaS means thinking before you speak, thinking before you do. Be in control. Doing what you want to do, not what your impulse is. Tapa posterity to voluntarily accept some inconvenience from the pleasure of Krishna. Level of austerity. Even what you Telling up our Lord is the Sannyasi. We can't imitate that even very austere. The proverb said this our austerity as we take Krishna Prashada, we follow the four principles. Many people for them, you know that they want to eat so many other things which are not even mentionable here. And being a vegetarian only today is a karate. So twice a month we fast from greens, pulses, cereals. That's the tapa accepts some austerity. Tapa actually helps the dhammas. It helps the sense control. They're all tying in together. Socha cleanliness. We discussed about that one's not clean. They don't wash their feet, hands, face, mouth and dry themselves after washing before they take rest. And it's easier for subtle entities to enter into the body and give you disturbing dreams and experiences in your sleep. So cleanliness keeps us free from so many influences. People that are drunkards, it's easy for them to be controlled by these subtle.
Entities.
And do crazy things that later they can understand how they could do that because they're out of control. Of course, here in Australia is all kinds of science. You lose your skill of driving when you're under under the influence, when you're drinking. So many big signs.
So.
Of course the drinking and all.
That.
Makes us lose our austerity, our self control. It makes us unclean. The lift of sex is also very unlike clean. Sometimes when you want to explain to people like it's kind of. The four principles are a bit heavy to just say we don't do A, B, C, D. But if you rather say that we are for cleanliness and having family life with your partner, with your wife, her husband, that's cleaner. All these aids and different kinds of diseases are spreading because of this uncleanliness. Because people are not observing that kind of sexual restraint. Therefore the unpleasant and therefore for disease or tapa. Instead of austerity, you can also say self control, tapa and Dhamma. Self discipline. People can appreciate how easy to be self disciplined. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day.
