Prayers for HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaja Speedy Recovery

A May 2024 YouTube recording of a devotional gathering praying for the speedy recovery and protection of HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaja. The session includes historical notes about the Panihati temple (deities installed 1973, moved 1974; Srila Prabhupada visited in 1975), an invitation to the 50th anniversary Panihati festival, an extended glorification talk and personal anecdotes by Mahaguna Mataji (her initiation years, service history, and close work organizing Panihati), followed by kirtan and collective prayers (Hare Krishna maha-mantra, Dhanvantari/Navaja prayers). The talk emphasizes Guru Maharaj’s qualities (service, non-judgmental, embodiment of love) and urges devotees to participate in the festival.

Long history this temple was established. The details here, Sri Sri Gauranithai, Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan and Sri Jagannath Balijar Subhadra Devi. The temple is very old, it's established in the 70s. And the Goanitai deities here were originally installed in 73, 1973 in a different temple. But in this current temple they are moved in 1974. So they're almost 50 years. This weekend we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the deities. And Srila Prabhupada has come here in 1975. And there's a famous pastime where Srila Prabhupada got ecstatic looking at the deities here.
And.
Our Guru Maharaj has been connected with this temple since 1981. And under his inspiration, the Panihati Chipped Rice festival has been celebrated very grandly, very elaborately since that time. And Shlop Guru Maharaj has visited ISKCON Atlanta almost every year for the Panhati festival and Rathyatra festival here. So this temple has a very. We celebrate the Panihati festival specifically in a very elaborate way. So it's coming up next weekend. So all of you are welcome invited to join us for this grand festival. So we'll start with the Kirtan. Now our dear God brother, senior God brother, His grace Shweta Saru Prabhu will lead the Kirtan. Ram, can you come closer?
It Sa Ram Ham Ram Islam is not Ram Ram Ram Ram Ram Ra Sam Ram Ram Sam Samurai Sam Ra Sam Hari Nam Ram Ram Ram Maram Ram Ram Sam Sa J.
Thank you so much for doing that wonderful kirtan for Guru Maharaj. Speedy recovery. So dear devotees, next we will go to the glorification of our dear Guru Maharaj. So today we have her grace, Mahaguna Mataji. She is one of the senior most devoted disciples of Srila. Guru Maharaj. Mataji got initiated in 1984. First initiation in in 1984 and second initiation was in 89. And from 1991 to 2008 Mataji served as Kurmaraj secretary and she also served as financial secretary for Gurmaraj for almost five years. And apart from that, Mataji is very integral part of our new Paniyati Ram congregation. She single handedly, along with the support of all the devotees, she manages the Panyati festival which is a major festival for our temple. And she also spearheads and makes all the arrangements whenever Gur Maharaj comes to Atlanta. Mataji really spearheads the whole arrangement process and she engages various devotees to help her in serving Guru Maharaj. With that brief introduction, I would request Mahguna Mataji to speak glorifications of Shila Guru Maharaj for the next 30 minutes. Thank you so much, Mataji Hare Krishna.
Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Can you hear me? Can you hear?
Yes.
Okay. First of all, I feel very least qualified to speak. But I do want to first take this opportunity to thank everybody for joining and giving me this opportunity to speak on Guru Maharaj. I mean, I don't even know where to start. My association of Guru Maharaj has dated back till from nine. Some of you probably were not born. It was in 1981. And to be. To talk about Guru Marjorie, he has only, I would say, strengthened my resolve that I should always stay in Krishna consciousness to see what Guru Maharaj has done. Some of the things that I have been personally previewed to. Spent my time with him in many different situations. I have been. I've seen his different moods, his sweet mood, his. His playful mood and his very serene looking as well as also there's been times when he has.
I have.
I've also been the brunt of his anger. But I realized that every time that he did that only because he has the love like. Like he's like. Like a father, right? Just. Just because you chastise your kid doesn't mean that you don't love them. It's the same thing. He is our spiritual master. And we as disciples are the most lucky to have someone who is showing us every day through his fights. If you all know what's going on right now, anybody else in his situation would definitely not be able to withstand it. They will say, I don't want to live in this body. But Guru Maharaj is taking all the time, no matter how much pain he is going through, to do whatever he can in the mood of service. And that's where I want to start the topic of our conversation today, right? I want to focus on, you know, the service. Service aspect, right? And what better way to talk about service than talk about the most, most dearest festival of Guru Maharaj, which is Panihatidam. And what Guru Maharaj said in one of his lecture, he told us and he said, I think our mood should be one of service. We should want to satisfy Lord Nithya. Because Lord Nithyananda is actually more merciful than Goranga, right? Because if. If you get the mercy of Lord Nithyananda, then Goranita Goranga automatically is forgiving you for no matter what it is but that is the mood, right? And then he says Guru Maharaj also continues, we want to great help great devotees. Like we as even our own way help Raghun to be serving Lord Nithyananda. And that is how we try to engage in the service of the Supreme Lord and his devotees. And that is what Guru Maharaj has specifically stated. So I want to, I have had many, many interactions and, and I, I really want to focus on some of the things that you know, Guru Maharaj as far as is talked about and in his own life, how he has, has led is yet as a. One of the things, when I was reading some, you know, statements about Guru Maharaj and stuff like that and then I was doing some research also. What are the, you know, we talk about the qualities of a spiritual master, right? You know, we need to understand what is that most important things they do. And then we can relate that to our guru and see, and then see the different scenarios. You know, one of the main, few of the main qualities are he's non judgmental, right. In our lives. What this is one of the few. I will go through four or five because we, you know, it's time is we don't want to take too much time. But the point is what he's saying. One of the main thing is he's a non judgmental person. That means what? That means he doesn't judge you for what you are. You make mistakes, you don't, you don't follow his things. He's not gonna judge you. He may chastise you, but he's not gonna judge you. And we think he may have judged me. Like I, I'll give you one simple example. So during one of the Paniyati festivals, I am so much focused that I like Paniyati festival to be, be where you know, I'm always assuming that everybody should feel like the way I'm feeling that this is, you know, we should only be eating chip fries. You know, not a lot of people like that chip rice. So one day, one of those years ago, about 10 years back, and Guru Maharaj was in his. This was, sorry, I shouldn't even say 10 years. This was probably when he was a year or two before he was, had this stroke. It was around 2006 or seven, I went to his room upstairs and he was there with a few of the devotees. His servants were there and we were all, you know, they were working on the initiation. And then I, I was so, you know, bent on saying that, you know, Vedasara Prabhu, you Know, he, he's trying to serve prasadam and here we are doing all this chip rice and it's going to go waste. Nobody's to going, going to eat it. I was, you know, and then all of a sudden Guru Maharaj started, you know, and then Vasara came and we were having a confrontation because he was like, you know, in his own way, oh, we just want to have some people don't like chip rice, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, I'm like trying to say, okay, what if people don't like, no, this is panati. You know, I was trying to passionately talk about it. Then all of a sudden gurumarj was like, literally not like siding, but he was kind of the way he did, cooled the temperature down. But I felt like he's not supporting me, right? You know, this is pani ati and no other prasadam should be served, only ch. And then he, in front of Guru V, he chastised me heavily. It was pretty heavy. It shook me up. And I said, I cannot believe, you know, I, it's, that's why we should, that's why I said, I judged in my heart saying, oh, I cannot believe my own guru is not seeing the, what I'm thinking, you know, in my own mundane way. And then I kind of left the room after that and I was literally sad. And outside, you know, near the steps, I was sitting and then he just come from nowhere and he said, are you okay? Are you upset? And he said, I'm sorry. And I'm like, I, I, I was lost for words. And I said, why would Guru Maharaj come and say that he's sorry? That was totally, it was like I, that, that tells me he's non judgmental. Here I was thinking, oh, Guru Maharaj is not siding with me and blah blah, blah, blah. But what I came to see here is he was being the diplomatic person trying to make everybody happy, right? He was not. And, and Vedasara. And then he comes and explains to me, oh, you know, with the, Sarah is the temple president. I want to start building my relationship here because he had just taken over the presidentship yet of the Atlanta Temple. And he's like, you know, you know, we need to just not do that. Ultimately everything will work out but why I did this. And he's basically trying to give me an explanation. And, and ever since then, even like yesterday we had a discussion about this whole Prasadam thing. And always I remember that Guru Maharaj instruction. I don't want to be controlling how Anything else happens. I just was, like, wanting to focus on the fact that this is a festival that is very near and dear to Guru Maharaj. And if you really feel like you need to focus and get some of that mood of service, then you have to come. Not because you need to come for anything other than it will please him. And he. I mean, there are many times, like, I remember there's another time in 2016, I was in California, and I wasn't planning to come because it was some, again, you know, issues we have sometimes when with devotees what, you know, late. It's like every day is a learning experience. And now I'm learning to see that. I try not to keep anything. And I just want to talk to every devotee. Like, I'm seeing. They are seeing me for the last time, or you're seeing for the last time because you want to leave devotees with the best impression. Impression of the service and not think of any negativity. So that is what I'm trying to slowly implement now. And no matter who that is, that person is negative to you or that. Because that is what I see with him, with Guru Maharaj in every angle. So one other quality is that the embodiment of love, right, Guru, if you know about Guru Maharaj, he has love. I mean, number one, when you talk to him, he doesn't just respond to you. He always thinks. He always thinks. And he shows the love and the care. And many of you may have experienced that. And that is the same mood that it has happened. And I remember this was in 2016. I was in California, and there was no way I was planning to.
To come.
And there was some disagreements again with the temple or whatever, and I was in California. And then two weeks before, a week before, Guru Maharaj calls and says, why? And that. I remember very clearly, that was the 50 preparations we were supposed to make. He calls me and says, why are you not coming? And I said, well, I don't think the temple wanted me to come or something. Again, that was just judgmental, right? Then he's like, I need you. Why are you not coming? I. I mean, this is. Remember, this is 2016. He was. He's on the phone with me. Mahra was there, and he's like, you must. We need to do this. And he started off describing 50 preparations we're gonna make 50 different countries for the Prabhupada's 50th anniversary and all that stuff. Then I said, no, I can help you from here in California. I can do all this Your recipes. Because he was calling me to give him the recipe for Panati. Then I. Then he's like, but if you're there, I can't talk to you whenever I want. And then he's like, okay, I need you to come right now. I said, I cannot find any ticket. No, no, no. I'm going to ask Maura. He'll give you my mileage or whatever. And then he's like, then he puts Maura. And then Maura and me were sitting there, and believe it or not, it's Thursday morning, California time. And then he's like, you must come right now. So then me and Mara, back and forth. I took a flight Thursday. I didn't work all day, literally doing all of this. Plus, he's sending me all the recipes, asking me. I was looking at it. It's 51 recipe. I still have that. 51 flavors, right? For 50. 50 flares for 50 countries of srila Prabhupada, the whatever. And then he gives me. And then I take a flight. It was 9pm on that night. I flew all the way, and I came here Saturday. Friday morning, I'm still in the plane. He has seen. And he tells Maura, okay, what time is marrying? And then I'm still in the plane. And I get a call because he wanted to make sure I'm there, that I did not bailout. And then he calls me and I said, guru Maharaj, I'm all night. I didn't sleep in the plane. I finished. I have about 25 recipe. Because he's waiting. Where is the recipe? Then I finally came. I ran home, I changed, and I again worked on the recipe because he didn't have the recipe. Because when you cook chip fries, you have to know what to put for each flavor. So I was doing those recipes, recipes for him. And then, of course, you know, he thought that I could do it. He, you know, he gave me that service. Not that, you know, I'm good at it or not, but he believed in me, right? So then I finally did all the recipes. And then I heard. I was like, so great. It was Friday evening. I go to him and I give it to him. And then at 9:30, he finally says, no, no, I want to talk to Marguna. Because I was waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting. Then I said, guru Maharaj, it's. And they were like, all the servants, oh, he's late. He has to go to bed. And I said, okay, here is the recipe. I'm good. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You need to be there. Okay, let's do this. Tomorrow when we go driving, I'll be in the car. You can read the recipes to me. Then I said, okay. Then I came to the temple at 10 o'.
Clock.
We're going to Rathayatra downtown. I'm sitting in the car and I'm reading the recipe. And. And then he's like, I was thinking that I'd done it. Perfect job, right? My own false ego. Then immediately, no, you need to add one of this. No, he put a mark on every one of them. And we finally. Every hour is like, every time I would go out, oh, call Margaret, come back in the car. Because we were driving and following the rat card and we were filling out those recipes. I still remember all of this things because it kind of like, it was amazing that he was doing all that. Then we went through 50 recipes. Then I said, okay, we are all good. No, no, no, that's not the end of it. Then he's like, no, no, you need to come back. And he's basically telling me, I need to take some water and figure out the recipe, mix it. Remember, once we do the recipe, then you add the chip press, then you add the yogurt. I had to figure out all that. So he made me go bring some gallons of water, which I brought. And then I had to do all the measuring because he wanted that 50 flavors perfect. So there I was Saturday night, I still remember getting gallons of water. Somebody is bringing. And there I'm measuring, figuring it out, all the recipe. And then next day, when the actual day came, obviously he still tried to come, come over there. And we ended up doing 50 flavors. That doesn't. The story doesn't end. Okay, we did it. Offering is all over. And then while he's eating, oh, you know what you missed little bit of this. Oh, you missed this. And he keeps giving his feedback. But in the end, I remember later on, he's like, okay, you know, he was acknowledging how that you were showing is love. That's the embodiment of love. When I was talking about is that he wants his kid, is the father. Your every parent want their kid to be perfect, right? That's how he was. He was trying to make me so perfect in my service. So it was kind of experience that like this many other Panayati instances, I feel like I've done everything perfectly. And he will always come and he will point. There was one panihati I remember, I took all his feedback and then I said, guru Maharaj, I've Taken all your feedback. I've done everything. I think I have everything. And then he comes back and said, you missed lychee. That's what he said. And I said, I cannot believe. And one remember one pani, auntie. Oh, you missed the carob power powder. And, you know, you've missed this. You know, what is so unique about Guru Maharaj is he can taste that flavor in every single one. And he will say, you failed to put this. You failed to put that. So I realized later all he was doing is trying to perfect me, you know, in my service so I can go on. But I just want to conclude. To say that, that, you know, this is a festival that is Guru Maharaj favorite. And I told him how I had taken a vow to Gornita in our temple here, that I, as long as I have my two feet in hand, that I will continue to serve do this Paniyati festival. And then Guru Maharsh made a joke. Hey, but you didn't take my permission to do that promise to Nithyananda. And then I said, well, he caught me. Then he said, so now you better not miss that. You know, that's what that happened when I was in California. He said, you better come and do, because you promised to go, Nithyananda, without talking to me. So, anyway, this is kind of some of the nice things that has happened over the years. But I can tell you right now, Panyati is in his every blood. Every blood, every ounce of his blood. Paniyati is his favorite. He has gone all over the world, and in many places, they do this Ponati festival. And I was trying to joke with him couple years ago, last year, I think, and I said, look, a year before, he told me, oh, my. Melbourne did this. Oh, Sydney did this. I said, then last year, we went and did this. Nice animation and everything. And I said, so what do you think? You think I did better than Melbourne? And then he was like, but you didn't do something else? And then again, he. But then I think he did acknowledge it was far out, but he had to always tone my ego, False ego down. But I think I want to, you know, say that Panihati is close and near and dear to my heart because. Not because of, you know, the. The. The service that I got, but I think it's all because of, you know, our Guru Maharaj that I have actually come to a point where I've perfected to a certain extent because I'm not a perfect human being, but it's in my blood. Like. Like Paniyati is in my blood. I live in Panati Dam and doing this pani at the festival. If. If you can get involved in in any way, one little bit of service. Anything. To be honest with you, just to give you a conclude this year Panihati is the 50th year anniversary of this new Panihatidam. And I really want to implore to all of you, please make this. Because this is so unique. If Guru Maharaj was in good health condition, he would not miss for the world. Because this is a very special. In fact this is the first time ever in the entire Panayati in celebrations anywhere in the world. We're doing chapen book. What does that mean? We are doing Chapenborg of 56 pots for each altar. So there will be a chapanbog in Jagannath altar, Chappanbog in Radhakrishna and Chapelborg in Gornitai. On top of of that, this year our theme is to be more like the forest and the garden and the whole peacock and that theme of. So I'm. We're not gonna do any all of these fancy. What do you call. But we are gonna make it like. Like bring you to Panihati. Like you would actually be in Panihati or you would be like that. So it's very important that every everybody please come. Because if you come then Guru Maharaj heart will be satisfied. He will know that if just because he's not physically present that there are all his disciples to represent him. So having said that, I'm going to conclude and see if anybody has any questions. Back to you. Sachipur.
Thank you so much for that nice clarification of Guru Maharaj. Guru Maharaj is an embodiment of service and he's an embodiment of perfection. And he brings out, he empowers his disciples to do the best. And that's our protection. So dear devotees, next we will chant Hare Krishna Mahmudra for the recovery of Guru Maharaj. For the next 30 minutes or so we'll chant Hare Krishna Mahamatra followed by Dhanmatri prayers.

Krishna Dear devotees, thank you all so much for joining today. So I was hearing his grace Mahavara Prabhu speak the glories of Srila Guru Maharaj and Mahavara Pru was saying that several astrologers have mentioned that Guru Maharaj actually they saw Guru Maharaj astrology and they said this person left this world in 2008. And this is astrologers who did not know about Gur Maharaj. Guru Maharaj was they never met Gur Maharaj. But just by looking at the the stars, the birth, didi date place all of that of Gur Maharaj. And they were saying that and this is several astrologers, not just one, several very prominent well known astrologers. They were saying that Guru Maharaj this particular person has left this world in 2008. But anything else that is being done beyond 2008 it's all that is that Guru Maharaj wants to condition souls like myself. So it's a great fortune that Guru Maharaj has accepted us, has taken us under his shelter, under his protection. And Srila Prabhupada himself has said that Guru Maharaj is a personal servant, personal associate of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. So all of us are very fortunate for having Gur Maharaj in our life. For having Gur Maharaj as our guide, as our protector. So it's our. It's in our own interest to pray to their lordships for Gurmara's protection.
So.
So that he can continue to stay in this material world and bless us with this association and guide us in our path, in our spiritual path. Thank you all once again. Hare Krishna. We'll end the session here. Hare Krishna.
