So we want to thank for leading the foreground Chapa. So we welcome His Holiness Maharaj will be speaking glorification of Maharaj and he has a very long relationship with. We'll all be eager to hear about Guru Maharaj. Welcome Maharaj.
Over to you. It.
Voice is not heard.
Yeah, can you hear me now? Krishna Chaitanya Devam Sri Radha Krishna Padan Sahagana Lalita Shri Vishaka and Vitamsha Nama Om Vishnu Padaya Krishna Sri Mate Bhaktivedanta Swamini Namaste Hare Krishna devotees, Vaishnavas and Vaishnavis and all others gathered here. Can you hear me well enough?
Yes, Maharaj.
Okay, thank you. So Hare Krishna to all of you. This is not one of those enthusiastic ceremonies or programs or talks where we are excited about preaching Krishna consciousness. We are inspiring people as a Sannyasi go to many different places for many different types of engagements. But I understand that this is a sober and more than sober, a serious focused engagement. We are all very seriously praying for the welfare and for the good health of our dear Guru Maharaj. His Holiness Jaipataka Swami Maharaj and this is a moment where we can offer sincere prayers. Srila Prabhupada when he was very doing some of these bad health periods when his disciples asked him, he must have read in the Leela Marta he said that everything depends on Krishna. And if you pray to Krishna and if he feels so, then things can change. And Prabhupada made it a reality. And at one point of time when he was very sick, the devotees prayed intensely by chanting. And when it became alright, he said it because Krishna has heard your prayers. So we are not doing something that we do without faith that things will change. I am saying this because I just met with Guru Maharaj physically in the ILBS Hospital in Delhi. I had gone for the samadhi of His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj, our dear chairman of the bureau. I'm also a member of the bureau as a trustee in India. So we had some very close relationship now and then. Discussing many things happening in India, making solutions, solving problems and meeting up with challenges. And I had met with Gopalkrishmaraj the day before he fell down in his bathroom. And we had a very nice talk wherein I told him that maybe. He said he's traveling and he's perfectly all right. And I told him maybe it's good for me to travel with you. And he said immediately, yes, yes, I'll buy you ticket. Please come with me. We were talking very lightly. And then the next day this happened. He fell down and then he had this serious problem and he left us. I did not know at that time that this is going to happen at all because Gopal Krishna Maharaj sounded very, very positive and very upbeat. I also met with Guru Maharaj after that. On my way back after my program in Gurugram, I got to make an appointment with Mahabharah Prabhu and also went and met to give a update to Guru Maharaj. And I was pretty much emotionally moved by seeing Guru Maharaj situation. So I don't know whether I should describe it, but I think you're all here for a prayer. And I think that would be pertinent to describe it, that he had been on dialysis and he had not been reacting to anything, not speaking, maybe not even eating properly for three days. And afterwards the dialysis is over. I was the first person to, I think same in the morning. And he was eager, he recognized me and I gave a report. And Mahavaraha reported and told him in the years the summary of what happened in the Emergency Bureau meetings and what's going to happen and was very eager to listen. And he was shaking his head, but he was not able to respond. He wanted to see say something to me, but it didn't sort of come out. And at that time I felt very moved that he's not able to express. And I felt that definitely is going through a very, very challenging situation. And I sort of didn't want to embarrass the doctors there further. I bow down and Guru Maharaj personally blessed me with his hands. I left after coming on the way throughout, I had a lot of thinking and a very thoughtful Journey back wherein I was thinking a lot about the great services that these type of great personalities do for Guru, for the Parampara, for Krishna, for Lord Chaitanya and for all of us, whatever we may understand, there are many things happening on the backside which we don't understand and we don't see. That was a deep realization for me. Then I also heard that astrologers were contacted by some of the sectional devotees. And in Kerala also we had some astrologer contacted. And they all mentioned that he's going through a very difficult bad time. But there are chances that he will very much come out of it because of the trials of the devotees mainly. So many things can change if Krishna wants. And therefore it is our faith that by prayer, by sincerely requesting Krishna, things can happen. Guru Maharaj has done huge volume of humongous volumes of service for Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. In my 40 years of association with him, I have seen him very closely and many times had very close discussions, sweet discussions, arguments, sometimes raising voices, sometimes very happy moments, light moments in Yatras and things like that and jokes and whatnot. I've seen him in all different faces, but always an extremely committed, dedicated person. To Prabhupada's words and the service given, I remember many things. I don't think all that can be covered here today. But I would like to say that when I saw him that day, I thought, this is what is the meaning of sacrifice. I understood that this is the meaning of sacrifice. We talk a lot about what we are doing and how we are doing. And we see that we are very dependent on our seniors. If they don't encourage us, if they don't acknowledge us, if they don't actually be with us. With a few good words we can get very easily discouraged from devotional service. And we are very dependent in our devotional service. This means we are Sadhakas. So we need that very much. But I think that here is an example of a person who of course gets a lot of praise and this thing from his disciples mainly, but also on the other side simply lives on the enthusiasm that he generates by himself on accomplishing things for Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in a very challenging atmosphere also many a time. So I have seen that this is possible only by somebody who is very well situated and nicely fixed in Krishna consciousness. In my early days in Mayapur, I joined the movement because one fine day in Mayapur, I remember sitting there and talking to him. I had asked for A private interview and talked to him what I should do. I was working as a project engineer design in a multinational company. And all of a sudden the lamp he wanted to put on the table lamp and it didn't go on. He said, I don't know what's wrong, it's not been burning. So I just took it off. I changed the terminal and shook it a little bit and put it back. The light burned. And then he said, how did you do that? I said, I just changed the terminals. It may be because of somebody cleaned it and pushed it this way. Then he looked at me and he said that you're a project engineer. Why don't you come and help me with the samadhi? Those days the push for samadhi was being built and you must be knowing all these things. Why don't you come and help me? Actually I took that very seriously. I was very deeply reading Prabhupada's books, very excited. They just got initiated. It's about two years since I got initiated or something. And I got a direct interview and he said, why don't you come and help me here? So I was very deeply impacted by that request. And I went back and I decided that I should do what is requested of me and it's necessary that I leave my job. And I didn't ask anybody. I took this thing and many things happened. And then I was up in my home within the next one and a half months or two months. And then I told him that I've come, you told me to come. He didn't even remember. Oh, I said, you told me to. I resigned my job and I came. So you resign your job. I Then he. For a moment he said, oh, I didn't, I didn't ask you to. I said, no, how else can I come here and do what you asked me to do? So he was very surprised that I took this immediate decision. But after that I could see that he of course tried to engage me in that place and try to do the needful. But I knew from then onwards in my interactions that he was very, very busy and at the same time very enthusiastic in every participation everywhere, the parikramas and the discussions and the meetings and the thing. And several times I had lunch with him on his invitation and always I would see that how to actually be practically engaged in Krishna consciousness is something that most people don't get into so easily. In the beginning I learned a lot how to be engaged, how to practically. What are the various things that come into your head? And block you. What thoughts block you, what type of d. I mean, what type of limitations you get. And that was very interesting to understand and watch. And quite often we don't get so enthusiastic all the time. Enthusiasm lasts for some time and it goes down. I remember while I was in Mayapur, I would dig around Guru Maharaj's office. In the front his office will be locked. But outside the secretary's place there was all sorts of old letters of Prabhupada and everything. And I read that. And in that I came upon a letter wherein Guru Mahja, Guru Maharaj is writing to Prabhupada saying that giving a report on things happening in Mayapur and saying that I feel very restless.
Is.
Telling Prabhupada that I feel very restless. So Prabhupada has replied to that letter. I don't know how many of you have seen it or known about it, which is a very interesting note. Prabhupada's reply saying that don't worry about your restlessness. Your restlessness is a sign of ecstasy. Simply continue to be engaged in Krishna consciousness. That I understood at that time. In a different way over a period of time I understood that again, again differently. And this time when I saw him in the hospital also I had reflections of that Prabhupada mentioned. It's a sign of ecstasy means it's like literally, academically, it translates from nectar of devotion into bhava. It means you're in bhava bhakti. Exactly. That's why you're feeling restless. That's why you're very enthusiastic and you can do any amount of thing, service without any complaint. You can generate your own enthusiasm and service. That's the meaning of a bhava bhakta. So that's like a very high level of devotion for Krishna. So sadhaka means one who is dependent for his enthusiasm, for his ongoing devotional service, on inspiration that comes, etc. Etc. But somebody can do this on his own because he generates his own enthusiasm, is ecstatically involved in devotional service all the time. Other devotees may tell you a lot more in personal instances. I have encountered this many times. You see, in devotional service especially, the more you take responsibility and the more you preach, there is something else that happens to you in the material world. It doesn't happen to you so much. It does happen to you to some extent. In the material world. You see that people become famous. They have some art, they have some talent, they have some capacity, and they can really fly High. And it's all Maya, it's illusion. But in devotional service, the devotee, the more he serves, the more he comes in touch with Ka, the more he is in reality, the more you also challenged because Prabhupada said, if you are trying to render devotional service, you must be prepared for war. A person takes up devotional service, it means that he has declared war on Maya. And Maya will do everything possible to attack you, to discourage you, to challenge you, to spoil your efforts, to do something to you, to de enthuse you. So we need to be quite strong in order to tide past that. Mostly what devotees do is they step down and take up a safe comfort mode. Okay, I'm not fighting. Okay, I'm not challenging. But devotional service, if you really want to push it through, is always on a challenging mode. Of course it has got its ecstatic periods. You enjoy in many different ways the association of devotees, the kirtans, the deities, the festivals, the beautiful description of Krishna and Prabhupada's books that nobody can take away from you. But since you have this wealth of Krishna conscious occupation, Maya will definitely not allow you to spread it. And when we try to spread it to others, there is always challenge of various types. I remember once Guru Maharaj was very keen on me traveling with him. I was actually not very keen. For some reason or the other. I didn't really think about it. I was extremely busy with so many small things happening in my area of service. So I didn't take that very seriously. So one time very seriously told me, raised his hands, I want you to apply for a visa, you're coming with me to the US And I showed in my face that actually not very keen. But he said, you apply. And then I went through the so called influential person in Kolkata pro another proposal, who knew everybody very well, the ambassador and the consulate general, everything. So he told me to go. And so reluctantly I filled up the form and something and submitted with my passport and everything. And it got rejected. It got rejected simply because it didn't have certain things and had mentioned there. I am domiciled in Calcutta so that they don't check me too much. But that is not the main point. But still it was rejected on other grounds. They're not exactly telling where are you going in America, who's going to support you there. You're not mentioned all that very well. And so it was rejected. But then I came back to that devotee who recommended and said it got rejected. But I spoke to him and Then he spoke back to the consulate general and he said, I mean, some basic information at least you must give. He's not given any information that. And then I was asked, why didn't you fill it up like without asking him? Anyway, it's okay. I was actually internally happy it was rejected. I don't have to go. But then when Guru Maharaj heard about it, he said, what nonsense. What did you do? I said, this is what I wrote. Then I said, I, I wrote, I'm domiciled in Calcutta. Why did you lie? A Brahmana should not lie. I said what? I was told to say that. But a concerned person who asked me to fill up the thing so that it's easy to process. Anyway, that's not the reason I was rejected. They didn't ask about those things. Then he went on and extremely angry and wrote a large, huge letter to the consulate saying that you don't know whom you have rejected. He's a leader in a movement and he's very important. He's supposed to go for a meeting. This thing, that thing and all that big letter. I saw the facts, which is like a big, like a mala. It was coming up. So I two, three pages, you know, and then he told me, go apply again. Go apply again. Which I didn't do, actually apply some other reasons. And then he caught me again in the airport and he looked at me and said, you didn't apply? I said, yeah, it is how to go again and apply. And I just don't know who can do it. Somebody has to help me. I just don't know how to do this. Then he looked at me and said, the problem is you're not interested in coming to America. That's the problem. He told me and he left. And I was thinking about it a lot afterwards and then I went back and said that, you know, I may have made a mistake. I didn't show interest and it's just that I have too many things to do and I don't want to take up another thing. He said, that's the reason why I'm asking you to come with me. Unwind. And then I remember that we inaugurated the temple here. And after that he asked me to come to Malaysia. I went to Malaysia. And in Malaysia, after the so called unwinding, we went to a theme park and we were taking rides and something. And then he looked at me from another seat that he was moving in and said, unwind, say unwind. And he said, I am also unwinding. Okay, don't feel Bad that you're in a ride somewhere in a theme park. The first time I see I just explained to you that should I do this, should I not, is allowed to do or not? And I was going in that ride and then I saw him and he said unwind. I laughed so often. Many times I would see that we get stuck. Is this the right thing to do? How to do it? Should I do it? Should I not do it? Can I do it? I mean, you know, I really get stuck. And it's nice to have somebody who tells you what to do. And Guru Maharaj is real out of the box person. He thinks very differently from what other people think in many occasions. I've seen it in all over meetings that I go to. Sometimes the gbc, sometimes in the bureau, sometimes with other members. That's a very great contribution. I remember those days. When I got initiated in 1983 in Mayapur, I was told by another disciples, if you're getting initiated, you must join full time. Don't get initiated. What's the use of getting initiated? Because that was the mood. I mean you all would be very surprised. That was the mood. And everybody who got initiated joined full time. I went to Guru Maharaj and told him that somebody is telling me like this, like this. He said no, don't have to, you don't have to. You can get initiated. And then he said, of course you can shave your hair, put your hair down a little bit and put a small shika. I said how can I go to work with a shika and all that? Then he said a little small shika, you can just leave a little bit. And then as I was moving on, he said of course it'll be good if you can get trained up for two years in Brahmacharya life. And then of course you can go back to your job. You can of course go back to your job. This is about the time that, you know, other things also happened. I was wondering what I got initiated now and I'm being told that I should come for two years training, I should keep a Shika and go. This saying, this is turning out to be something else. How can I leave my job? This is. But after I got initiated and I got used to Krishna consciousness for about a year, I took the decision that no, I want to join, I want to do something for Guru and Krishna. That's what's mentioned in Prabhupada's book. Everything changed for me. It's not two years I came for after that. I never turned back till now, but it was a very nice ruse, very nice trip to get me initiated and then after that had me join. So I, in retrospect, when I think about it, I think it's a very good, interesting way of getting a person to join by telling him, no, no, you don't have to join, just get initiated knowing fully well that this person is definitely going to join after some time. So these are some of the things I thought I would share with you briefly. And I know that Guru Maharaj is a giant of a serviceman for Prabhupada, having involved himself in huge amount of services. And he always thinks very big in huge numbers. He thinks quantity also. So it will be very, very influential or it will definitely influence Krishna a lot if we all sincerely pray together to have Guru Maharaj tied through these difficult times. And Prabhupada also mentioned that these difficult times may also be contributed by us disciples, that some of them have not followed instructions properly. And therefore the flak, the reaction to that is taken up by Guru. That was also mentioned by Prabhupada. It's also mentioned in Prabhupada's books. So it will be good if we can all sincerely offer our prayers to Krishna, to the presiding deities in your place. You have Gornita, you have Jagannath, Balaram, Shubhadra Devi, you have Rajakrishna deities. You can definitely offer your very sincere prayers, chant rounds and don't think you're insignificant. You're all wonderful devotees, you're all Vaishnavas, you chant Hare Krishna regularly, you read Prabhupada spokes, you render service. And you are definitely dear to Krishna. And if collectively many people pray to Krishna and petition him, Krishna will be quite often influenced to take action. And that's the way we influence our prayer is an influence. Of course, who can influence Krishna? Bhishma told the Pandavas on their bed of arrows that everything is happening because of time. Then he also followed it up by saying, nobody knows what is Krishna's plan. And Krishna was standing right there and watching him speak to the Pandavas. Nobody can understand what is his plan. But we can of course petition him, offer our prayers. But we can't expect that everything will happen exactly like we do. We want something better than what we want. Mostly happens because Krishna has a different view and a different idea. And whatever Krishna does is the best for us. But however, at this moment we have a selfish desire to have Guru Maharaj healthy so that we can have association, inspiration and Ka consciousness. So nothing wrong in having A desire like that. It's a fully spiritual desire, of course, to be decided upon by Krishna and by his own free will. We will however, offer our prayers. So today is a prayerful day and we should summon all the strength and force and purity that we have to offer prayers. And looks like that works much more than anything else will work. And when I went and saw him there, that was what was related to me by devotees. That things are miraculous is not supposed to be like this. And there are this malfunction, this thing, that thing. I don't want to go around describing it, but still is, you know, responding. He's doing this. And I just spoke to Mavaraha yesterday and he said that they were in Delhi temple on a visit. And Guru Maharaj is visiting and meeting with the leaders after the Samadhi of Goparks. Maharaj's first visit was not able to come at the time was seriously ill. So I was very happy to hear that. So I think it's because of the prayers of the devotees and all the doctors feel so also. So we should continue to offer our prayers. This is a prayerful day, A day allocated for prayer. And we should all get together and pray. Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama. Rama Rama Hare Hari. I did not really know that I have to speak today much. Although I gave my word and I have to rush for another engagement right now at seven o' clock. It's supposed to be and five minutes past. So thank you very much for your association, all of you. And thank you for your company. Hare Krishna. Is it okay? Shivas Krishna Chaitanya.
