In this brief lecture, Jayapataka Swami explains how a devotee can discern whether their service is pleasing to the Lord. He states that actions aligned with the Lord’s direct requests are inherently pleasing. When an action is mandated by spiritual authorities and does not conflict with the Guru’s teachings, even if it runs contrary to the devotee’s personal nature, the devotee should still strive to fulfill it, especially if it is urgently needed. By undertaking such self‑sacrificial service, one may receive a special mercy from the Guru, highlighting the spiritual value of obedience that transcends personal comfort.

How do I know if my service is pleasing to the Lord? If we are doing something which He asks us to do, then it's usually pleasing to Him. If we're doing something which is what our authorities request us to do, and it doesn't go in contradiction with anything Guru told them, and that's something that is completely against my nature. Then usually I try to please them. It's something that's against our nature, but it's something that is urgently needed. And sometimes by fulfilling that, one gets a special mercy from Guru.
