Śrīmad Bhāgavatam Class (4.11.35) || Melbourne, Australia #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

A recorded Bhāgavatam class by Jaya Pataka Swami discussing the story of Dhruva Maharaj (from Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 4.11), focusing on themes of anger, duty, and devotional transformation. The speaker narrates parts of the scripture (Kubera/Gobera's reassurance, Dhruva's relinquishing of anger), draws modern parallels (Middle East conflict, 9/11, interstate violence), touches on interplanetary accounts in the Vedas, and then opens for audience questions about righteous anger and pastoral responses.
O Jam.
Thus Swambu Ramanu, after giving instructions to Dhruva Maharaj, his grandson received respectful obeisances from him. Then Lord Manu and the great Sages went back to their respective homes. Thus ended Bhaktivedanta. Reports of the fourth chap Kento the 11th chapter of the Srimad Bhagavatam entitled Swayambhu Madhu advises Druid to stop fighting next one of chapter 10 my.
The.
Great sage Maitreya said, My dear Vidura. Guru Maharaj's anger subsided and he completely ceased telling Yakshas. When Gubera, the most blessed Master of the treasury learned this near news, he appeared before Dhruva While being worshipped by Yakshas, Kinaras and Chaimeras. He spoke to Dhruva Maharaj who stood before him with folded hands. Dhanada Vachan Bho Bho Kshatriyaday the Master of the Treasury Pughair said, O sinless one, O Sinless son of Akshatriya, I am very glad to know that under the instructions of your grandfather you have given up your enmities. Although it is very difficult to avoid, I break face with you. Nabhavam Avadhit Yaksha Nayaksha Vrataram Daba Kala Evahi Bhutana Prabhur Abhya Bhavayo actually you have not killed the Yakshas nor have they killed your brother. For the ultimate cause of generation annihilation is the eternal time feature of the Supreme Lord. Report by Srila Prabhupada when the Master of the treasury addressed him as sinless Dhruva Maharaj, considering himself responsible for killing so many Akshays, might have thought himself otherwise. Kuber however assured him that actually he had not killed any of the Akshas. Somebody can Pan however assured him that fashion. He had not killed any of the actions. Therefore he was not at all sinful. He did his duty as a king as it is ordered by the laws of nations. Nor should you think that your brother was killed by the Yakshas and Kubera. He died and was killed in due course of time by the loss of nature. Eternal time. One of the features of the Lord is ultimately responsible for annihilation of generation. You are not responsible for such actions. So the Devas are devotees. Even they have some material desire, they are devotees. They are called Swagham devotees, Swakam Bhakta. They weren't selfless enough to go back to this bridge to world. They wanted to enjoy some comfortable position or have some desire in this world. So they Ended up. So Prabhupada said that many of his disciples may be born on those planets. We can't get rid of all our desires. Then we're given some nice position in the heavenly planets. So they're the warnings. And the warnings have so many good qualities in material situations. Sometimes they become very complicated and you do get angry. Dhruva was angry because his brother was killed. He wanted the Yakshas to hand over the murder. They didn't hand over the murder. Should have done the mirage done yesterday and things escalated. This whole pastime is very relevant in the modern world because what happened between Juma and the Yakshas is often happening in the modern world. Despite, we think that.
This is what's.
Going on in the Middle east between Palestine and Israel. The hatred of the enmity that's increased so that people are willing to be suicide bombers and some of those people who identify America as aiding and abetting the Israelis. Then America becomes a target, as we've experienced in 9 11. And we continue to the apprehensive Baba and all our leaders here are saying.
So.
This is the situation.
And whether.
It'S in India where there was Hindu Muslim riots or whether it's in Pakistan, India, whether it's a national entity which they translate into a religious or nothing.
To do with religion, actually to that extent identify like this the same kind.
Of thing that repeats itself over and over around the world.
And when it's easy to get angry.
Over something, it's very hard to cool down. This is what Poobeer is appreciating, that you have given up your anger because ultimately Dhruva has not got any more.
Than for his worship.
He did originally, but then he gave that up and wants to serve Krishna purely. But then he was given a service that he had to be a king because that was his original desire. That's the king trying to establish the law and order. Then he gets attacked. And defending his kingdom became very complicated. What to do, how far to go, what's the limit. People were very afraid that when America.
Entered into Afghanistan, it's going to get.
Over the limit, it's going to go too far, it's going to escalate and involve the whole region. They did a lot of homework. They brought everybody on board. So it's diplomatically well thought out and just to stay confined to the particular targets in as far as we can see. So that's actually quite difficult because things can escalate so easily. Just like a little forest fire in Colorado turned into a blazing Uncontrollable blaze. It's very difficult when anger gets going in our individual lives. Often people become angry if they have an ego. Then they have to control the situation and things aren't happening according to what.
They envision they should happen. Then the one can get very angry.
And then when you get angry you get an illusion. When you get an illusion you lose your discretion. And then you do things which later.
You really regret and die.
Because how many violent things happen even in fact some policeman was telling me that whenever there's like a murder or some at first they look for family members because it's sometimes the family enmity.
Comes to such a level that there.
They become prime suspects. You think that they'd be the last people, but I forget what percentage. Only 40 or 60%.
Are actually from near near.
Somehow the love turned into lust or.
Whatever was unfulfilled and then got into.
Anger and madness and so on.
So it's very important not to give out this anger.
There's appropriate times when it can be used when it's really in self defense. But not to be angry over just.
The ego essential things.
Because that just.
Leads to so much harm.
This original issue was with Druva Maharaj was a self defense issue defending his kingdom. But then it got way out of control. It became a battle between two kingdoms.
Which were.
Involving so many people that.
Were not actually the people. The person who did the crime just.
Became a class action because we go on like the feuds here in the Appalachian Mountains. They got families that are feuding for, you know, forever. So much hatred builds up now and.
The people, they can't even imagine how.
The solution is going to be in.
The Middle east.
Seems like aware. You can see how grateful there is also because the fact that he could appreciate you've given up this anger. He went there to congratulate Rupert. So he wasn't happy with all the Yaktions being killed. But we can see it wasn't just he knew the Gakshas. So therefore he was involved being a Yaksha himself. But that means he didn't have a clear understanding of the principles of religion. And his real point was that it was unnecessary. It wasn't that he was particularly sectarian.
If he was involved and he knew that it wasn't correct.
So now he is also giving. He's actually comforting.
Okay, it's not holding me.
Cries Ultimately whoever died, it was because of the will of time, will of the Lord.
We should stop it to hear because it's not necessary. These kinds of people should be killed by them. Sometimes seniors in the society, they need.
To step in.
And act as a carbon rod and reactor.
Nuclear reactors with carbon rod to keep them from going into bombs and absorb.
Some of the radioactivity.
Sometimes requires some seniors.
To come in and to try to keep things cooled.
Down when they get heated up. This is what the elders did in the Dua's family now, where he was.
Held with the textures. Gracious. But he's getting them also to cool down.
Because Dhruva was protected by Krishna the Alpha Malaya. He was using his special power and he went into like a hyper mode.
And was really annihilating reactions. Went out of control in all situations.
Praying for peace. And literally in Italy when he heard the instructions.
They love his angry.
Wish there would be people that you could talk like that to in the Middle East.
And I just do love to anger, you know, a couple people who are from that part of the world. Somehow very hard to get to give up. So I'm not so in. I can say this is my limited experience. I don't want to say anyone say that's a really big problem in the world today. Treasure called his name.
Dana Dao.
Master of the treasure who's giving out money.
They say they found who there.
They're looking. They needed a treasure for the daylights and they didn't know who should be in the treasures. They're looking for somebody who was very frugal. They didn't want a big spender in the treasury boat.
So it's really tight.
Didn't like to waste anything. That way they showed that money wouldn't be wasted. So they went all over the universe looking for who was the most frugal person, the most careful with his money. Elevate that person to be the treasurer of the U.S.
Somehow they found it.
In Yaksha Loka, another planet above the earth, that Kuwait. He had put some oil on his body and he went bathing. Suddenly bathing.
A little oil comes off in the.
Water and creates oil sleep. He was taking that I was putting back on. He wanted to waste it.
And I saw that, wow, this guy's really tight. I don't want to waste anything. Who bothers, right?
You know, a few molecules go up so they start to use the right one. Now for a few breaths into here. He's preaching. He's actually preaching to Brahma that you should just worship Krishna, get focused. All kind of qualities are needed in Krishna service for the universe. They get different people taking up different, different temples. You need, you know, Someone to be the head, someone to be the tc Someone to be the leader, to be the congregational Christian director doing different services ideas.
We should use our quality Slayer Sunday. Lucina is such a nice voice.
The way she announced those pots yesterday, I was thinking how she said she's like a real public performer. Hi Chris. Thank you for being here. Thank you for having me. Pleasure.
So like that.
If we can use our qualities for Ka.
Maya wants us to use all.
Our abilities just for sense gratification. That's the big wise. But if we can use them for Ka, everything is under time. We also have limited time. One thing we can't get back is time. So whatever time we're able to use in Krishna service, that's our victory. So Lord Shaitanya advised we do YouTube. Later on we have Dovetail all our activities and Ka service. It's very important that we do everything for Christina.
Same things that everybody does.
So we always have to do many of the same things. Pay the bills, raise the family, raise the take care of the children. But if they have a temple in their house and use their house for preaching, they're also maintaining their ashram for trying to give the love and affection to their children. Want to give their children the very best that they also do. Krishna conscious everything can be turned as an offering to Ka. Finally, we need to connect everything we're doing consciousness into Krishna. That's why Krishna consciousness is also described as Buddhi yoga, the Bhagavad Gita.
Valuable Yoga.
I give moving yoga I give Ka consciousness. We use our intelligence how we can connect something to Krishna. If we can't connect something to Ka, we shall do it. Krishna says we have a right for our self preservation to maintain our body healthy and place to stay for all the food and basic things. Somehow you can use something for Christian service, then it's okay to do it. Sure, you can always take guidance from your guru or teacher. Going over something is useful.
My assertion trying to like you know.
Without telling something to Ka Then there may be something that really doesn't.
Have anything to do.
We think in any way that's useful. Start off watching the news station. Then you go to the Discovery Channel for something freesome or you watching something that has nothing to do with anything really needed to see. It's easy enough for somebody else to TV to get off the channel. But that's why you have to be very responsible and conscientious too. Sometimes when bewildered, we need to take shelter from all the devotees. Can sound great disgusting. Be sure. Oh as part of devotional service we.
Should be very clear that what we're.
Doing is facing Ka.
Because the time is effective.
You don't want to waste any time.
Won'T get it back.
Time is going to. Basically time is killing all of us. We don't know when our time runs out. We had some near death experience and we think about so many things I couldn't finish yet. So many things he could have done.
Then we get another opportunity to live that we may not use.
Also the time very soon we forget. That's why we have to always use.
Our intelligence.
To build up our intelligence here. That Guruvamar is getting a lot of intelligence from his superior people. He took the universal disturbance.
This planet and the Yakshnavoka had become.
Like the Middle east of the universe. Interplanetary battles going on, huge fighting. And very quickly things cooled down. The main readers realized that nothing was to be gained by that. I do sometime since we've been developing a science exhibition lab I do sometimes discovery or just watch this thing, their research of the universe. And they have all these gigantic telescopes and they're putting out a telescope in outer space which is going to be like so many miles wide. Like a big sail fetches all the information so we couldn't take them to here.
So what they're all trying to figure.
What they say is whether this symptom.
Of life.
I mean here it's like just so well understood.
Here in the Veda it says that.
There'S a history that you know, millions of years ago this thing happened and from another planet that came here. Now they're having a true ceasefire tree friendship. They're having war between different planets. And throughout the Bhagavatam it talks about interstellar wars. Advanta Maharashtri was helping the Devas fighting when they had interplanetary war between Deval.
Loka and the Vivas. Because Advanda Maharashtra had a special benediction.
That he could never be defeated in a battle. He's a good guy. Name on your side Ajit Undefeatable. So the Devas used him in their wars with it. Then he got with the demons.
So he finds out.
So much interaction between this planet and the other planets.
Some people think well this is so.
Proud, must be a mythology. But actually it's something like that. It's a history. Why we don't see the people now probably explain. The other parents say maybe we're sitting here sometimes.
But they don't ever fight themselves because what they're going to talk about the common denominator.
And what's the first thing that Yaksha Ranch or Kuber talks about when he meets with Ruba is they're talking philosophy. Talk about time and he talks about supreme personality guy. The common denominator was the spiritual understanding, the environmental situations and other factors.
We're different on each planet.
But what was common was the supreme Lord, the knowledge of the supreme Lord and higher philosophy. Because all we're going through the changes of body. Everyone had the same karaoke, had the atmas, which were all the same kiva atmas. And the Lord was the Lord's everywhere. But now there's so little spiritual understanding.
That.
There'S very little to discuss from these people. They were saying they're beaming out. They have a guy sitting somewhere in. Somewhere in America. I forget what New Mexican was. They have a group of people 24 hours a day that's listening to them. They have big radio receivers to get radio transmissions from everywhere in the universe as they figured.
Well, if there's any other advanced society.
They must have radioactive music or something. They don't.
You know what?
If they have such a higher technology, they'll be radio at all, which is disturbing to eat that if they were much higher technology, you don't need that type of transmission. So they have this guy, they're texting, their money is running, people are singing to the radio. But then the Vedas are talking about whether you found this, some hieroglyphic and.
Some.
Sphinx or something in the middle of a pyramid. Probably somebody say, wow, look at this. This is some evidence. But the Vedas, everyone knows they're thousands of years old. They're talking elaborately about interplanetary. Has anyone ever heard even heard about it?
You heard about that The Norwegian people.
Said there's Tor Zeus. I get mixed up between Greek mythology, what they call mythology and Scandinavia. But you know, hearing about all the different paths of Taurus throwing lightning bolts. And in the Vedas it talks to.
The Lord of the heavenly planets, Indra.
He throws lightning bolts. It seems like there's a lot of.
Common.
Between these different traditions. I have a disciple in South America, has two PhDs in linguistics, different from Latin and Spanish. Some other Europeans who was studying all the ancient languages in Europe and found that in every culture in Europe there's some ancient poetry about a counter boiled place and a flute and attracts all the Calvary girls. And it's known as the Calvary Boy. You know something? Some very technical name that somehow is a common poetic literary link between all different cultures. In Europe a very ancient culture about this tower boy.
Then when she got the Krishna book.
She said, you know my God, it's Krishna. Then she became a devotee. Now she's doing programs in the university there. She set up a course in one university especially for Krishna conscious related kids but still speak English. So somehow I was like I don't know if charity Vedic person is more expert in all these things.
That's how it's mind boggling.
It's how there's like internal information flag from all things coming from India. Seems like it's not taken as a resource. Apparently Hitler took it as a resource from the Vegas.
He got the idea about missiles and.
Invented the missile which was then made by espionage, taken by Americas nuclear weapons and things like that. The idea is inspirational for the Veda. Why don't they take some inspiration about what the universe is? You heard Sadaputta report yesterday how his recent book has been very well received about what's it called? The sacred universe. And of course some people, you know most people, some people were very highly lowered that this is a ratio and this is some pretty well established people. But of course the most die hard establishment people of Christ and all the all set. This witness is humbug. At least he got a number of people who are very interested.
This tremendous for us.
But this is our scripture. We take it as history. We don't like people to call it as an atomic. Very sad actually. They spend so many millions and billions of dollars like that. I'm always amazed when I think about the billions of dollars they spent to send the Voyager rocket to the next stellar system which will reach there in 10,000 years. Then they're supposed to send back some radio books, broadcast what they see. It's such a, you know, making so much money the globe that you know.
10,000 years from now and then.
There'S.
So much information that's in the data. It's about life and other planets.
But there are different dimensions, different planes, different descriptions of different. I'm sure the American military is studying all the veiling things about the different kinds of aircraft but they don't tell anybody. 18 different kinds of aircraft mentioned in the data. One that runs on sunlight and energy has exact description of the modern UFOs and what they say that were grossed by high tension wire sucks the energy. So there's a vehicle mentioned like that in the Vegas that can run off of moonlight, sunlight and any kind of electricity. The most lowest technology is considered combustion. Anyway the common denominator here was that Gubera respected Dhruva because he was following the principles of religion and because he was a highly elevated personality who gave up his anger when he got good instruction devoting to Krishna. And so basically you wanted that enmity be forgotten. And then people get back to worshiping Krishna. So it's very auspicious. Any questions? Yes.
He's given so much Ananda to the Vaishnavas. No, I don't want to help or.
Gave you an in his service. Over the weekend so many people came to me and said. I said there was this person that told me was so nice to me and was preaching to me. Who is the follower? No, the one sitting by his feet.
Thank me for the ball of confidence. Of course, I'm trying to catch up. I like to ask you something. That problem, that is you mention anger. Anger is an obstacle in our spiritual progress.
So.
I'd like to ask you when can that anger be considered quote unquote, righteous indication? Say for example, when you may witness devotee doing something wrong, not performing a service, neglecting exams or just overall non masha, would that be righteous institution? And then if it isn't and it is an obstacle.
How do we check it? Is the person your child? No, in general.
Yeah.
I'm just trying to say like normally if we're maybe the spiritual master or the parent, somebody who's responsible for the spiritual well being of the person and the person is, you know, if you don't do something then you're held responsible.
For the failure of someone who's near.
Loved and was going down the tube of Maya and you want to save that person then you know, it would be kind of natural to get emotional about it. But otherwise, I mean I really wonder who are we to get angry even if somebody else is neglecting their spirit.
That particular emotion I just don't identify.
With in terms of a third party. I could begin to identify with it in terms of a warrant to save one child.
But then, even then, whether that is the best.
Particular way of motivating that person is to be considered in a case by case, situation by situation basis. I know sometimes Srila Prabhupada would get angry and his disciples when they did something extremely foolish. I remember once he got angry with one disciple who was committing a deity offense and said, you're a Hindu, you're born Indian, you're living in the Holy God. What did he come here for?
To go to hell?
Why did you mean be the opera? You know better. So he was pretty intense because he.
Considered here someone knew better.
And they were just being extremely careless and foolish. And so Prabhupada, what I saw, he would use emotion as a weapon, as a tool, as an instrument, as. Not a weapon in the sense of violence, but as an instrument to bring people and wake them up. Because, you know, but it was always under control. And sometimes he was angry with me.
I immediately kind of blacked out most of the time.
So he was angry, you know, about exactly what they were. But I remember one time, you know, I got chastised. I can't remember exactly why.
But then maybe later on, Prabhupada, maybe he was thinking, well, man was too.
Hard, heavy on him or something.
I don't know.
Because then he said, you know, I don't know how you tolerate me as your spiritual master. I'm so harsh.
I remember that. I don't remember. But completely erased the other thing, whatever it was that was so heavy to.
Have him saying, I'm so unqualified as a disciple. Orchestration to hear something like that.
But otherwise, Prabhupada said, we're supposed to.
Be the mercy agents of the Lord. If you see somebody who's in difficulty, rather than being righteously indignant and says, who are we to be indignant about someone else being a Maya? I would think we should be compassionate and caring and actually, Prabhu, you're such a nice devotee. I really hate to see, you know, having these spiritual difficulties. Maybe you need to get some help.
I'm not really.
Maybe talk to some senior in the morning or whatever.
You try to somehow encourage a person, show you care. I would identify a person more with.
That kind of a response from a third party. Then if somebody is a warrant, I mean, is like a responsive person, then maybe in some cases you do. Anger is a probative. But, you know, certainly that violence, it doesn't solve things. And I learned about it. My understanding, he had a whack on the tail with his cane. When he bowed down the girl, bowed the beauty in the temple and put his feet toward the beating. Fine, come put your feet to the beating.
I don't know if I call it exactly.
Why not with a love tablet. So this year I got so angry, a disciple, one disciple pushed the lady. I just got apologized and said, no, I just can't holiday somebody mistreats her kids or first time.
So when we have, you know, we.
Kind of program our mind what to be angry about. We should be angry as don't come in.
They want to.
You know, when I hurt something, I would think. I think I lost it. But I thought at least it was trying to protect someone. If somebody. If someone tries to harm the devis or harm somebody, that time was supposed to get angry. It's all right.
