A short excerpt from a talk by a Hindu devotional teacher arguing that spiritual purification (e.g., bathing in the Ganges) can reduce sinful tendencies over time, but association with a pure devotee can produce immediate internal change. The speaker cites devotees who met with a teacher named Rahulpad and experienced sudden shifts in outlook.

We get purified from sins, right? See in the Gyanchis. But mentality to again commit more sins doesn't change. Sometimes gradually, by bathing in the Ganges, you become more and more attracted to ka and become less attached to material life. But it may take a considerable time to fully have that effect. But if one asks as association with the pure devotee, that change may happen even immediately. There are some devotees who met with Rahulpad and they have an immediate change of their ideas.
