Hey, here's a quick exercise to help you improve your bass groove so drummers will love to play with you. It's called the 10 Minute Groove Challenge, and this is essentially where you take a bass line that you want to work on and then you set a 10 minute timer on your phone. And the goal is to repeat the bass line for 10 minutes without making any mistakes or more importantly, not adding any fills or extra notes. And there are three benefits to implementing this exercise into your practice routine. Number one is stamina. As bass players, we're normally playing the same thing, playing the long periods of time on gigs. Number two is consistency with your internal time. So instead of relying on other musicians, you have confidence when playing grooves and you'll be developing a rock solid time. And number three is after around five minutes, you'll start to notice very subtle things within the groove and how you're playing the notes. These subtle things, like lengths of notes, for example, are what separates amateur bass players from the pros.
