Jim Carter walks through GPT-4o, OpenAI's new model that reads text, sees images, and hears audio all at once. It's faster and cheaper than previous versions, making it practical for real work instead of just demos.
Welcome to the Prompt. I'm Jim Carter. This show guarantees tech news and updates that shape your life and future. Since it's essential now to stay on top of AI, we'll figure it out together so you don't fall behind. I'm here to explain it, offer some deep insights, and spark a little curiosity along the way. If you're a techie like me, or just AI curious, hit that follow button for the advantage you deserve. Let's dive in. Hey there. Welcome back to the Prompt. I'm your host Jim Carter, and today we're talking about the incredible latest release from OpenAI that's got the tech world losing their mind on Twitter and guys like me beyond excited. The newest update to ChatGPT is going to make AI more accessible and powerful than ever before. On Monday, May 13, OpenAI held a huge livestream event watched by over 110,000 people eager to see what they've been working on. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The star of the show was GPT4O, which takes natural language AI to a whole new level. The O in GPT4O stands for Omni, because this model can handle text, voice, and even visual input all at the same time across over 50 languages. It's like having an AI assistant that can understand you no matter how you want to communicate. But what does that really mean in practice? That's what I want to really get into today. This multimodal approach is giving us an early preview of what interacting with Genai might be like in the future. The real magic happens when you combine these input modes with GPT4O. You can seamlessly switch between typing, talking, and even streaming video in real time. Imagine having a conversation with an AI where you speak out loud, send it an image that it analyzes and responds to, and type a message all in one continuous interaction. It's a level of fluidity and versatility that we've never seen before in a language model. And get this, GPT4O is fast. Like, really fast. We're talking response times that feel almost as natural as chatting with a human. Imagine having a natural freeform conversation with an AI that adapts to you in real time. It's pretty wild. They're even releasing a slick native Mac app to make the experience that much smoother. The best part is that OpenAI is rolling out GPT4O to all ChatGPT users for free over the next few weeks. And if you're a paid ChatGPT subscriber, you'll get priority access and even higher usage limits. They're putting this cutting edge tech directly in the hands of hundreds of millions of people, regardless of technical know how. It's the democratization of AI on a massive scale. For all my fellow developers out there, you'll be happy to hear that GPT4O is already available to the API and at half the price of GPT4. This opens up so many possibilities for building intelligent apps and services powered by this incredible language model. I've tested it out by updating my own projects and tools with the API. It's absolutely faster and I've found the responses have been great. As OpenAI's CTO Mira said it, GPT4O represents a huge leap forward in making interaction with AI feel more natural and effortless and and that's really the key here. The more intuitive and accessible we can make this technology, the more people will be able to harness its potential in their daily lives and work Just today I needed to do some data work and decided to give it a spin. I had two CSVs, one with a bunch of emails and another with just a segment of them. I uploaded both files, told it exactly what I wanted it to review both, reduce it by removing the unsubscribers, separate the data, prioritize it by tags, and give me a final CSV to download, probably the most complicated prompt I've tried with the code feature in a single shot. It gave me exactly what I needed and easily reclaimed 20 minutes of my time with only about two minutes for processing. Start to finish. Even yesterday I was stuck on sending an email to a prospective client who was asking a lot of questions that naturally would be answered when we start working together. Then I thought, why be stuck? I asked GPT to learn the whole email thread and help me reframe my draft in a way that encouraged getting started, knowing we'd figure it out as part of the process. And no lie, it wrote it in a better way than I could have. It easily unblocked me so that I could move on to the next thing. This is just a few of countless ideas and ways you can find use for it in your daily life. You can even use it for the small things. You just need to give it a shot. Alright, so here's my challenge to you. If you haven't already, Sign up for ChatGPT and start exploring what GPT4O can do. Think about how AI can fit into your workflow, your creative process, and your business. You don't need to be a tech genius to start experimenting, just sign up and try something. At this point, the only limit is your imagination. And if you really want to geek out on this stuff with me and other AI enthusiasts, I want to personally invite you to join the waitlist for my Slack community over@fastfoundations.com Slack. It's the spot where I go deep on developments like this, share behind the scenes of what I'm building with AI, and answer questions. Right now it's closed for enrollment, but if you secure your spot on the waitlist, you'll be the first to hear when it opens up again. All right, let's wrap up here. OpenAI has changed everything again with GPT4O and the latest version of ChatGPT, and I couldn't be more excited to see how this shakes up the AI landscape. As always, thank you for tuning in. Let's keep exploring what's possible with AI together. I'll see you next time.
