Jim Carter III explores OpenAI's new ChatGPT search engine and whether it can compete with Google. The episode covers the tool's features, partnerships for credible sources, privacy concerns, and what comes next for AI-powered search.
Hey there. Welcome back to the prompt. Great to have you here. I'm your host Jim Carter and today we're chatting about OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT that has just launched its own search engine, taking direct aim at Google's dominance. You might be thinking, do we really need another search engine? How's this any different from the countless others that have tried and failed to dethrone Google? Well, let's just say this isn't your average search engine. Here's how it works. You can access the search feature right through the ChatGPT website or their apps. And the interface is super clean and user friendly, kind of reminiscent of Google's early days. Instead of just typing in keywords, you can have a full on conversation with the search engine. You can ask follow up questions, get clarification, and really dig into your search topic. It's like having a personal research assistant at your fingertips. By integrating web search capabilities with the conversational AI of ChatGPT, OpenAI has created a search experience that feels more like talking to a knowledgeable friend than typing into a lifeless search bar. It can remember your previous conversations, understand context, and even throw in some personality. Want a professional? Tell it like it is assistant? No problem. Want it to talk like your best friend? You got it. Imagine being able to have a full conversation with your search engine. You ask a question and instead of just spitting out a list of links, it talks with you, asks for clarification, and provides a thoughtful, detailed response. That's the power of ChatGPT search. It's not just pulling from a static database. Chat GPT search taps into the web to bring you the latest updates on everything from sports scores to stock prices. Think of it as having a super smart, always informed buddy right at your fingertips. But ChatGPT search isn't just about personalization. It's got some really impressive capabilities under the hood. It can analyze data, create charts, and provide insights that go way beyond your typical search results. OpenAI isn't just keeping this power to itself. They've partnered with big names in the publishing world like Reuters, Associated Press and Lamond to ensure the information you're getting is credible and current. This isn't some fly by night operation. It's got the backing of some serious players. Now, I don't want to overstate things here. ChatGPT search is still in its early stages and it's got some stiff competition from the likes of Google and other AI powered search engines. But I really think they're onto something special here. The combination of advanced AI Personalized interaction and real time capabilities makes for a search experience that's unlike anything we've seen before. The big question on everyone's mind is, can this really take on Google? And honestly, it's a tall order. Google's had a strong hold on the search market for decades, with a whopping 90% market share. They're not going to go down without a fight. ChatGPT search offers a totally different user experience. It's not just about finding information, it's about engaging with it, having a dialogue, getting personalized responses, and maybe even learning something new in the process. And if you think this is cool, remember this is just the beginning. OpenAI has plans to keep improving the search experience with features made for shopping, traveling, travel, local recommendations, you name it. As the AI gets smarter, so will the search results. Of course with any AI, there are always concerns about privacy and data usage, but OpenAI seems to be taking this seriously. With clear attribution of sources and options for publishers to control how their content appears. They've stated they don't use personal info for profiling or unsolicited contact. It's a promising start. So is ChatGPT search going to be the Google killer? Probably not overnight, but it's a major step forward in how we interact with search engines, and it's got the potential to shake things up. If it can deliver on its promise of a more engaging personalized search experience, it could very well chip away at Google's dominance. So here's what I want you to do.
