Jim Carter compares ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity, breaking down what each AI does best and when to use it. He shares which tools he actually relies on and why, based on months of testing them side by side.
Welcome to the Prompt. I'm Jim Carter. This show guarantees tech news and updates that shape your life and future. Since it's essential now to stay on top of AI, we'll figure it out together so you don't fall behind. I'm here to explain it, offer some deep insights, and spark a little curiosity along the way. If you're a techie like me, or just AI curious, hit that follow button for the advantage you deserve. Let's dive in. Hey everyone, we're back for another episode of the Prompt. I'm Jim Carter, and today we're exploring a question that's on the minds of many when it comes to large language models, which one should you be using? Chat GPT, Gemini, Claude, or Perplexity? Now, I gotta be upfront with you. Right now, AI is evolving at a breakneck pace. By the time I finish this episode and you're done listening, there could be a new model, a new version, or even a new startup shaking up the market. But as of mid July, when I'm creating this, these are the four biggest names in the game. So let's talk about what makes each of them unique. First up, the titan in the ring, chatgpt. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've definitely heard about it and have probably used it. ChatGPT started as a simple way to chat with a massive knowledge base. But now it's so much more. With Chat GPT, you can access recent info, though not real time, and even ask it to summarize specific web pages. It's like having a research assistant at your fingertips. But here's where ChatGPT really shines. The code interpreter. It's not just a fancy name. It allows you to chat with your data and documents. Sounds wild, right? But it's true. All you have to do is upload a 45 page PDF and ask ChatGPT to explain it like you're 5. Toss in a CSV file with tens of thousands of rows and have it make sense of the data and draw you charts. It's like having a junior programmer, data scientist and statistician rolled into one. Ready to go 24 7. Next up, we've got Google's Gemini. Now Gemini packs a serious punch. It's fast, it's powerful, and it's got that Google touch. The biggest perk is that it gives you access to the world's best database of websites. It's connected to Google Search, so it's got all the world's info at its digital fingertips. Plus, if you're a Google Workspace user gear, Gemini integrates seamlessly with docs, sheets and Gmail. I find myself turning to Gemini when I need to do heavy research or when I need it to whip up some code. Let's say I need a simple drop down bar for one of my landing pages. I can ask Gemini to create a static 20 pixel high orange bar with a simple drop shadow that sticks to the top of a webpage with white text that says Register for my webinar on the first and a real time countdown. Boom. Gemini kicks out that code like it's nothing. Now let's talk about Claude, the rising star from anthropic. Claude's latest release, Sonnet version 3.5 is turning heads with its speed and its unique artifacts feature. This lets you see the output in a side panel and refine your chat almost like you're chatting with the output itself. It's going to be cool to see how it evolves over time because it's already pretty incredible. I use Claude almost as much as ChatGPT because in my opinion it's the best in the biz when it comes to picking up on nuance in writing and writing styles. In fact, I use Claude for this very podcast. I dictate my thoughts to Otter while I'm walking my dog, then feed it into a custom AI process I built. It runs through a series of prompts I engineered with Claude to take the transcript, merge it with past episodes and my writing style, and create a draft that's then turned into my voice for the podcast. It saves me so much time because I don't have to sit down and record the episode. Last but not least, we've got Perplexity, a service I'm a happy paying customer of. Perplexity feels like black magic. It blends other models like GPT and Claude to produce the output you want and it's got a spider that has next level real time access to the Internet. It's an answer engine gathering all available info and giving you one comprehensive view that you can then refine with natural language chat. I use Perplexity almost daily, especially on the go for research and finding more info when I need it. So there you have it. My top four picks. I use all of them for different purposes and I encourage you to experiment with them too if you want to take advantage of AI with ease.
