Welcome to the Prompt. I'm Jim Carter. This show guarantees tech news and updates that shape your life and future. Since it's essential now to stay on top of AI, we'll figure it out together so you don't fall behind. I'm here to explain it, offer some deep insights and spark a little curiosity along the way. If you're a techie like me, or just AI curious, hit that follow button for the advantage you deserve. Let's dive in. Hey there. Welcome back to the Prompt. Today we're talking about OpenAI and how they just recently released GPT4O Mini, a smaller, faster and way cheaper version of their flagship model, GPT4O. This is a pretty big deal and it's got me wondering, have we reached the peak of AI now? I know what you're thinking, Jim. How can you say we've peaked when they just released a new model? But hear me out. GPT4O mini feels like a shift in the AI landscape. Instead of just making models bigger and more powerful, OpenAI's focusing on making them more efficient and accessible. This new model scores an impressive 82% on the MMLU benchmark, has the same 128,000 token context window, and can handle both text and vision, just like the current version. What's really cool is that it does all that at a fraction of the cost. We're talking 15 cents per million input tokens and and 60 cents per million output tokens. That's over 60% cheaper. For folks like me who are running API calls around the clock to power our projects, these savings make a big impact on our bottom line. But it's not just about the money. This pivot towards efficiency over raw power suggests we're entering a new phase of AI development. It's not just about pushing the boundaries of what's possible anymore. It's about making those capabilities more practical and accessible. Even Mira Muradi, the CTO over at OpenAI, recently said in an interview that they've pretty much released the most exciting stuff they've got cooking up. She said, and I quote, inside the labs, we have these capable models, and they're not that far ahead from what the public has access to for free. That's a pretty big admission. Now, I'm not saying we've reached the absolute pinnacle of AI. Of course there's still room for improvement and innovation. But when you look at the benchmarks, GPT4O Mini is holding its own against models like Claude Llama and Gemma. It's not blowing them out of the water. But it's competitive and that tells me we've hit a bit of a saturation point. We're not at the peak of what AI can do, but we are at a peak of sorts. We're at the start of a new phase where the focus is on optimization, practical applications, and getting this powerful tech into the hands of more people. It's about balancing capability with cost effectiveness and real world usability. And you know what? I'm here for it. I'll take those discounts any day. I'm already testing all my AI applications on GPT4OH mini before I make the full switch. It's not every day a service you rely on heavily suddenly offers you a 60% discount just because it's a Thursday. I wanted to drop in real quick here and give you this update today so that you don't miss a thing with how fast this industry is changing and evolving. And if you've been on the fence about diving into AI, consider this your signature the barriers to entry are lower than ever and the potential is still sky high. Have you ever heard that saying the best time to invest was yesterday? The second best time is today? It's usually used in reference to investing. But you know what? AI is one of the best investments you can make, so if you haven't gotten started, the time is now. For anyone else geeking out about this stuff like I am, I'd love to jam more on it.
