Jeff Dudan debunks common franchising myths and explains why it works as a business model. He draws on his own experience and highlights Homefront Brands as a path to financial freedom through franchise ownership.
Hey everybody. Jeff Duden here and welcome back to Franchise Fridays. Here's a stat you might relate to way too well. Gallup says only 32% of Americans feel engaged at work. That means two out of three people are half checked out while someone else signs their paycheck. And if that's you scrolling a job post during zoom calls, stick around. Because I'm breaking down the 5 billion biggest lies that you have been fed hook, line and sinker about franchising and the truth you deserve to hear. And by the end, you'll see why smart people use franchising to break out, stay free and become, as I like to say, unemployable in the best way possible. And hey, if you're ready to see how this works for real people, start by grabbing a free copy of my book Discernment below and check out what we are building@homefrontbrands.com now let's bust some myths. Number one, franchising is just fast food. Most people still think the word franchise means slinging burgers under some golden arches. Not true. Let me clue you in. Franchising touches over 70 industries today. From property services, home improvement, pet care, wellness and haircuts, technology, mobile services. It's not just about food, it's about solving real world problems that people can ignore. Doing things that people need done. Back when I built Advantaclean, we didn't serve lunch, we did mold, remediation, water damage, non discretionary recession resistant services that turned into a national brand because everybody needs it at one time or another. And today at Homefront Brands we focus on recession resistant essential services, not fads. Nothing that will become obsolete. You can build inside of this as long as you wish. So myth number one, dead. Number two, franchising is just buying yourself a job. Look, people say hey, I don't want to buy just another job. I can't quit. Here's the truth. Good franchising isn't just a job. It's a system with leverage. It's freedom, it's opportunity. It's choice. You're buying a playbook that frees you up to work on a business and build it, not be forever stuck inside of it. And I didn't build just one business in the franchise model. I've built multiple, I've scaled, I've hired leaders. I've built wealth because the systems worked without me micromanaging every detail at every hour. And at Homefront Brands, our models are simple. They're designed for first time business owners to grow into multi unit or Multi brand operators giving you more freedom to more upside, less risk, less burnout. That's number two. Dead lie. Number three. You're going to hear franchises are too expensive for the regular Joe or the regular Jane. This one stops so many good people, they think I can't possibly afford to invest in a business. For most people, largely not true. Not every franchise needs a million dollar loan. $1 million upfit, restaurants, kitchens, all of these types of things. Some of the smartest models are mobile models or property services. They don't have these big leases, they don't have these fancy build outs, and they don't have piles and piles of inventory that you need to invest in and sink your cash into. Starting with one truck, the right tools and a proven marketing plan. Your grit, your sweat, your effort, your skills, your capabilities, that's your Runway. I've watched new owners scale from a single van to multimillion dollar operations with healthy margins and low ongoing overhead. At Homefront Brands, we specialize in low investment, high margin opportunities for many first timers because everyday people, anybody should be able to build wealth inside of a business. You just have to start by taking the first step and taking action. Lie number four, just start your own thing. Why should I pay these fees? Look, here's the reality. When you're with a good franchisor, you can't replace what they do for many, many times the fees that you pay them, they're bringing value. And it's value that you would have had to invest more significantly to create yourself. That's not all. 90% of independent business owners fail within five years. The rate is different in franchising. Look it up. It's brutal. It's something you need to know and you need to consider. Hey, I'm paying less to get going and I have less risk. What's the problem? A franchise cuts years off your learning curve. You're paying for certainty. You're paying for a brand that many people already know, like and trust. You're paying for systems that have been carefully put together and that work well together. And you're looking for a support team that has your back. In the good times, in the tough times, when you're starting and when you're selling, it's about the team and how they support you and what their philosophy is around franchisee success. Can you figure all this out on your own? Sure. But you'll pay. You'll pay in stress, mistakes, lots and lots and lots of wasted money and time. Most importantly, that you can never get back franchising Gives you a roadmap, the guardrails and a community of people. You will find your tribe, somebody just like you that you get along with building the exact same business that you are somewhere else in the country. And maybe they've come before you and they can help you save time, energy and money in learning the business. All of it worth every single penny. Line number five. You're stuck. You've got a glass ceiling. You can't go anywhere with this business because of territory boundaries or unit boundaries. Not true. Look, franchising is like a monopoly board. Sure, you have to win the next opportunity and earn the next opportunity by succeeding in the one that you're in. But you're not chained to one tiny little territory forever. It's like monopoly. Get your first house on your first property, run it well, and then take what you've learned and take the money you've made and invest it into your future in the way that you choose to. Franchising is one of the fastest ways to scale done right. You can open new territories, you can acquire neighbors, you can acquire other brands, you can do multi unit deals or even operate inside of multiple brands like we offer at home front brands. At Homefront Brands. We help owners grow from one location to a portfolio of businesses. For us, we're outcome based and it's all about the outcome for our owners. Because real wealth is built by repeating a winning formula over and over and over instead of guessing the first time every time. And if you want to be unemployable for life, which I think you do, think beyond the first unit. Think empire. The truth and your next step. Forget all of these old myths, forget these lies, throw them away. Franchising isn't just burgers, busy work or a money pit that you're making other people wealthy. It's one of the most practical ways to bet on yourself and ultimately win. But only if you choose the right partner, the right model, and go in with your eyes wide open, understanding that it is up to you in a big sense of it, in taking the model the franchisor has given you and maximizing it and optimizing it for your benefit. If you're curious what that looks like, check out what we're building at Homefront Brands.
