A 3 Step Method To Heal Injuries With Lightning Speed

Short video by Ben Greenfield demonstrating a 3-step method to reduce joint inflammation and speed injury recovery using electrostimulation, ice, and compression applied to an ankle after a Spartan race. He recommends using a recovery electrostim unit (Mark Pro), wrapping ice with compression, and applying the combined therapy 2–3 times daily for 10–15 minutes to accelerate return to activity.

Hey, I'm Ben Greenfield, and I want to let you in on a little kind of 1, 2, 3 trick that I use to suck inflammation out of a joint as quickly as possible and heal an injury very, very quickly. So I'm going to be working on my ankle today because I raced a Spartan beast a couple of days ago. I stepped a little bit wrong, and it's not too bad, but I want to restore or get back to activity basically as quickly as possible. So I'm going to use, first of all, electrostimulation is kind of the first step here. I'm going to use what's called a Mark Pro electrostim unit. And I'm going to take the electrodes and basically surround the outside of the ankle joint, which is where I've kind of done the damage. So basically, and you go here and here, here and here. Okay. So I can use this technique on a knee, on the shoulder, etc. And then I'll take the unit here and just turn it on, basically.
And pull this up a little bit.
I find that I can withstand a little bit more intensity when I bring in step number two. But what you're going to do next is once you've got the electrodes on there, these are basically, this is a brand of compression called frozen peas. And what I do is just wrap it around the joint like this. And the deal is, the icing is actually not all that great for a joint unless it's combined with compression, because you can get some lymph fluid leakage and backflow when you ice without compression. But when you add ice and compression to electrostimulation.
This is basically like my number one trick for reducing inflammation in tissue. And if you're injured, you can literally do this about two to three times a day for around 10 to 15 minutes. You can go as long as 20 minutes if you want to. So you put on the Electrostim unit, and again, I use this one called the Mark Pro for recovery. There's another one called the Compex. It's better for, like, strength, power, stuff like that. But I use the Mark Pro for recovery, cover it with the ice, put the compression on, and electrostimulation plus ice plus compression is like the best thing for an injured joint. And you can literally get back into action like, three times faster when you use a modality like this. So I'll be able to run within a couple days again once I kind of suck the inflammation out with this method. So I hope you like that little trick. Add it to your protocol. I'm Ben Greenfield. Sam.
