The Secret to His Strength Isn't What You'd Think | With John Jubilee

In this Ben Greenfield interview, John Jubilee, a former banker turned health entrepreneur, describes his "intracellular hydration" theory and the 88‑day protocol that he claims restores cellular water balance, reverses chronic disease, rebuilds cartilage, and dramatically boosts strength. He explains that after age 35 cell membranes become hardened like glass marbles due to oxidative stress and dietary additives (seed oils, artificial ingredients), preventing water and nutrients from entering cells. Using phase‑angle measurements from InBody and a calibrated Renpho device, he discovered he was 20 lb dehydrated despite drinking a gallon of water daily. He designed a 12‑step regimen (water, walking, nutrition, MSM, specific supplements, and other habits) that he says converts cells from “marble” to “sponge,” leading to gains of 20 lb intracellular water, 15‑20 lb lean muscle, 40 lb fat loss, and a world‑record bench press (555 lb × 14 reps) at age 63. He cites thousands of client testimonials, including reversal of autoimmune disease, kidney failure, and severe joint degeneration, and highlights the role of MSM (naturally present in well water) and simple lifestyle tweaks (cut sugar and white flour, walk on the balls of the feet). Jubilee also discusses the importance of addressing “cellular trauma” (ACE score, personal loss, spiritual forgiveness) and how his program is delivered through daily videos, weekly coaching calls, and a lifetime support community under the brand Energize Health.

I learned at a young age you can't buy your health. So I began this health journey when I was about 27 years old. For 10 years, I tried everything, and I was 20 pounds dehydrated. Now the dilemma became, how do you actually get that hydration inside the cells? And so I basically created a protocol for myself to follow, steady, healthy habits that we teach in this protocol, and I just live it as an example.
My podcast guest today is kind of a crazy guy, John Jubilee. He has a chest press world record of 555 pounds for 14 reps. He had bone-on-bone in his knees and figured out how to basically regrow his cartilage using the tactics that we talk about on today's show. And, he is kind of an expert on what he calls intracellular hydration. This one's interesting. All the shownotes are going to be at BenGreenfieldLife.com/Jubilee, J-U-B-I-L-E-E. Let's go talk with John. John, you actually, I think, were introduced to me by a guy whose podcast I've done a couple of times down in Vegas. His name's Shawn Kelly. And, he's like, dude, you got to check out this guy John. He's got a great story and some really interesting and novel thoughts, particularly around the concept of cellular hydration. And I'm like, okay, great. You know, just give me another guy talking about drinking water and electrolytes. And I kind of stalked you a little bit and listened to some other interviews that you've done and checked out your website. You have a pretty unique approach, man. So, I'm stoked to get into it.
Yeah. Well, it was a game changer for me, that's for sure. But more importantly, you know, at this point in time, You know, I think we're, you know, we're in the tens of thousands, 50,000, 60,000, 70,000, you know, people's lives that we've been able to impact with this breakthrough science. And interestingly, yeah, everybody's drinking more water, right? They're doing that, you know. And as a scientist, I always ask people a question, how's that working for you? It's not really working for people. You know, they can drink all the water they want, but You know, I like to keep things simple for people, Ben, and I say, you know, look at your cells. You know, your cells basically are as hard as a glass marble. You know, once you get past about 35 years old, oxidative stress and just the cellular transformation that happens in the cell, it gets hard like a glass marble. And so, all that water is really just bouncing off, those supplements are bouncing off. I call that expensive pee. It's like just not getting in there.
Get into that a little bit for me, the link between age and this glass marble effect that you described. I don't know if you mean that literally if you could enlarge a cell and tap it with a hammer if it'd literally be harder or if you're just using a metaphor, but I'd love to hear your description of this link between age and cellular hydration and this so-called glass marble effect.
Yeah. Well, and really, unfortunately, because of all the seed Seed oils and, you know, the 5, 10, 20, 30 ingredients they put in every type of food now, you know, all of those are also like hardeners to a cell. You know, a cell has 2 membranes around it, and so it's already tough enough because it's being protected by 2 membranes. But then when you start putting all of these, you know, artificial ingredients, you know, and man-made things in there, they basically You know, it's no different than when they put a hardener in paint, you know, they put a hardener, you know, in, you know, glue, all these things. It's basically the same thing is happening to our cells. And so, yes, they really are, you know, it's just like a marble, you know. So, your supplements hit it, your water hits it, it's just bouncing, it's bouncing off of that thing.
So, you mean like kind of the concept that Something like a rancid, let's say heavily fried oil might be the actual fatty acid that is used to comprise something like the cell membrane. And, in that case, you have either a dysfunctional or a porous cell membrane that doesn't function properly in terms of nutrients and minerals going in and out of the cell.
Well, exactly, right? The number one thing the human body is designed to do is survive. And so all of those cells, you know, are like, danger, danger, red lights are going off, you know, as all these artificial ingredients are coming, you know, they're saying, hey, let's not let that stuff in. And as that happens, and again, the age is decreasing, you know, you got young kids now, you know, think about it. In my generation, there wasn't anybody that had diabetes, you know, as a kid.
Diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity.
Obesity, yeah. Hey, nobody was fat. Nobody was fat when I was in, you know, there was always one fat kid in the whole school. You know, there was one fat kid in the whole school. And so all of those are new things really to this generation. And by the way, that's part of what, you know, Sean Kelly, you know, brought up. You know, he's a younger guy, of course, and You know, and I asked him, what's the biggest challenges of your generation? And I was shocked when he said that about 1 in 3 are on an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication already. And they have low testosterone levels. They have no sex drive. And of course, all of that, the root cause of all of those issues and 99% of issues is cellular Dehydration. It's the dehydration. So everyone's heard of inflammation, right? They've all heard of inflammation and they know inflammation is a problem. But do you know that inflammation cannot exist where there is cellular hydration? They cannot coexist. Like you walk into a dark room and turn the light on, darkness is gone. You put cellular hydration in a body, inflammation is gone. And if I can just give people a word picture here, 'cause again, I love to make things simple for people. Think about the word inflammation, in flames, in flames.
Yeah.
So basically inflammation is like, it's like a wild forest fire. You know, California, we have a lot of fires out here. It's like a wild California forest fire. That's what inflammation is. And when all those flames are going on in your body and they're not supposed to be there, the body goes into survival mode and it takes what little hydration you do have in your cells, like the fire department. You know, in the old days, they just, you know, get the bucket line going. It takes the buckets of water out of your cells to try to fight the inflammation. But of course, it's not doing anything, those little buckets of water on a forest fire. And that's— but that's how the body gets dehydrated at the cellular level. Once we have inflammation, The body automatically is going to go into cellular dehydration.
Yeah, that kind of makes sense, especially when you look at the link between inflammation and, say, free radical production. Because if you look at water, it's not necessarily like there's a fire in your cells and the water is literally dousing the fire, but water gets split into, well, hydrogen. So, 2 water molecules would get split into 4 hydrogens, a couple of oxygens, and 4 electrons, and then those electrons can be used as a sort of electron acceptor or as a way to fuel the electron transport chain in a way that might upregulate energy and fight inflammation. So, it makes sense what you're saying, but I think the issue from what I understand as far as your core model is that the water is not getting into the cells or the cells aren't properly hydrated. And, I want to hear a little bit more about how you'd fix that, but I actually want to rewind first. I'm very curious what actually got you into this. What was the light bulb moment when it comes to the idea of cellular hydration being the root cause of a lot of the stuff you talk about?
No, that's a great question. And really, Ben, where this came from is my own personal pain and my own personal health journey. So, I was a very successful banker, I had over 100 bank branches when I was 30 years old and I was very financially successful and however, I learned at a young age you can't buy your health and so, I played a lot of sports when I was younger, you know, football and basketball and played a lot of streetball also and I had no cartilage left in my knees.
Asphalt's pretty unforgiving, man.
Right? It's brutally unforgiving and So I had no cartilage left in my knees. So I began this health journey when I was about 27 years old, you know, to try to do the right thing. So I drank a gallon of water a day like they say to do. I drank the gallon of water, you know, I did the low carb, no carb, you know, all those things. Today they call it the keto diet. Back then they call it the Atkins diet. I tried all that stuff for 10 years. I tried everything and After that 10 years, and I was spending $1,000 a month on supplements. So I was taking my supplements, doing my hour of cardio a day, lifting weights, drinking a gallon of water, and still I had high blood pressure, I had hypertension. My waist was about 10 inches too big. Thankfully, I wore suits every day, so it hid it pretty good. But The worst thing, Ben, was that bone-on-bone. That's painful every step of your life.
And, by the way, just to interrupt you real quick, trust me, I know because I've had bone-on-bone in both of my knees in the past. I've addressed it in some ways that are, I think, maybe different than your protocol. Specifically, I kind of went the stem cell route. But yeah, to anybody who hasn't experienced what it feels like to not actually have the cartilage there, It literally feels like you have like a little cut inside you, but it's not a cut you can put a Band-Aid on.
Yeah, right. Every step, step of pain. And so in that pain, you know, I got frustrated and I said, hey, I'm gonna go do my own research here. I mean, I'm not a smart guy, Ben, but I'm a gifted guy. You know, I was born with a photographic memory. I tested out of 12 years of college math in 45 minutes. I just have a unique processor. And so I took those God-given gifts to research science, anatomy, biology, and I started finding all this, you know, medical research that's been done, but nobody ever really connected these dots quite in this way because, you know, I'm a bottom line kind of guy and I just skipped to the bottom. And so I, I went to the bottom line and said, well, wait a minute, we're basically like a big bag of water and cells. And it makes sense to me that if my cells are healthy, everything's going to be healthy. And how do you make a cell healthy? Oh, well, you have to hydrate it. Yeah. Now this is a really interesting part. So I call all my doctors and I said, hey, how hydrated am I? And I got the same answer from every one of them. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Doctors don't measure hydration. It's the most important health marker in the human body. It's more important than our A1C, than triglycerides, than cholesterol. It's our most important health marker. And I thought, well, this is crazy. Well, I'm going to measure it. So I start going online. This is 1997, by the way. It cost $11,000 in 1997 to buy a device to measure my cellular hydration.
Okay. And I'm assuming like you're talking about something more advanced than like a urinalysis stick that shows you like specific gravity and pH and like the color of your urine. You must be alluding to something More advanced than that.
Yeah, the key is, you know, and by the way, even today, the device that measures the best for intracellular and extracellular hydration, which as you know are 2 different measurements, that device is $31,000.
Real quick, are you talking about— you say the device, because I think the only device I've seen that might be what you're talking about is I've been in a medical clinic before where they have An in-body analysis that measures phase angle and cellular hydration. So, you're talking about something like that?
Yeah. So, that technology in 1997, the closest thing they had to it was $11,000. I measured my cellular hydration. And now, remember, I'm drinking a gallon of water a day for 10 years, and I was 20 pounds dehydrated. 20. A gallon of water weighs 8.3 pounds. So, I was more than 2 gallons low of what I should have been in my cells. So even though that was, you know, very frustrating of thinking, are you kidding me? I'm drinking a gallon of water a day and I am 20 pounds low on hydration. Then if I'm dehydrated, everybody has to be dehydrated. And I was taking all my supplements, $1,000 a month in supplements. But the good news was at least I was onto something and I recognized, okay, you know, this is it. You know, now Now, the dilemma became, how do you actually get that hydration inside the cells? And so, I basically created a protocol for myself to follow that would be transformative to those cellular membranes to basically convert those from being hard as a glass marble to porous like a sponge. And lo and behold, it worked. So, I gained 20 pounds of intracellular hydration. I also, I also gained 15 to 20 pounds of lean muscle, by the way, during this. You know, I went through this for about 1 year, by the way, a little less than a year, about 10 months. So 10 months I'm doing this protocol. And, and now, by the way, Ben, it's gotten better. You know, I have an 88-day protocol that I put people on, you know, because that's one of the cellular cycles of a human body is 88 days. And so I tell people, look, just do this, follow this for 88 days, and, and here's what's going to happen to you. You're going to gain your intracellular hydration. You're going to gain lean muscle. Of course, you know, muscle is 75% water. So, so you are naturally going to gain your lean muscle when you're gaining your intracellular hydration. You're going to lose visceral and subcutaneous fat if you have fat to lose. You know, about 75% of our clients, they want to lose fat. 25% are— Elite. You know, they're like you. They're great athletes, they're muscular, but they'll also increase their strength 50% in 88 days by just doing this protocol. Because when you— like you were breaking it down, it's the power of a hydrogen bomb inside your muscle when you push more intracellular hydration in there. So you can't help but get stronger. And the 4th promise is they will improve and/or reverse any stated health or medical condition that they have. And the reason I can guarantee those 4 things, Ben, is the first 11 years, 11 years when I was helping people, I stayed in banking, by the way, but I would spend, you know, 8 hours a day helping people with their health just as a noble cause. This was my pure passion.
God, when did you sleep between banking and 8 hours a day?
You know what? Now, I only had to spend a couple hours a day. I had a big team. So I spent about 2 hours a day in banking. I spent 8 hours a day helping people for 11 years. But in 11 years, this is— these were the results. Every person reversed whatever their health condition was. Autoimmune disorders, spinal stenosis, rheumatoid arthritis, bone-on-bone in their knee, their hip, their shoulder, Lyme disease, Crohn's disease, you name it, it reversed. And the other thing was though, everyone hit these markers, 'cause I was measuring everybody. Everybody gained their cellular hydration, they gained lean muscle. And by the way, the average person just in 88 days lost 40 pounds of fat without losing one drop of water or one ounce of muscle.
I have a lot of questions. So, 88 days, you said that's something like a, Cellular— did you say like a cellular turnover cycle or something along those lines?
Well, as you know, you know, there's multiple cellular cycles in the body. Some of them are 7-year cycles, but 88 days is one cellular cycle, and that's the one I focus on.
And what do you mean when you say cellular cycle?
That's a cycle that it takes for cells to transform from being marbles to sponges.
I gotcha. So, you're not necessarily talking about like the formation of new cells as much as a change in the cell membrane?
Correct.
Okay, got it. Alright. So, obviously, I would imagine there's kind of a strategy here. And, kind of like I mentioned in the introduction, I thought maybe when I listened to a few interviews with you that you were just kind of a minerals electrolytes type of guy. And, you'd probably agree with me that minerals and electrolytes are important, but what are you doing beyond just that basic strategy that a lot of people will recommend when it comes to cellular Hydration.
Yeah, well, again, listen, I am for all of those things, but my experience is, you know, nobody is gonna gain their intracellular hydration no matter what minerals, what electrolytes, what supplements, you know, that they're taking. So again, now my experiences with tens of thousands of documented, you know, cases, and we are fully medically approved, by the way, you know, HSA, FSA, CareCredit, you know, By the way, when you say we, your company is called Energize Health, right? Correct. And, and we have hundreds of doctors that have been through our protocol, more than 1,000 nurses, and they say, they say, you guys cracked the code. You guys cracked the code. They said, you know what, we went to med school for 12 years, they taught us to treat a symptom, but you guys are going to the root cause. You know, this is mind-boggling. I wish I would have learned this in med school. There's a doctor on the front of my website, Dr. Brian Taylor, had irreversible Kidney disease. 6 doctors told him he can only manage it and just try to slow it down. And this guy heard me speak in Las Vegas, Nevada, came up to me and he said, you know, I'm really disturbed hearing you make these bold claims. And I said, well, Dr. Taylor, I'm not making any claim. I'm only sharing empirical evidence of real clients and real results. I make no claims whatsoever. He said, well, you'd probably tell me you could reverse my irreversible kidney failure. And I said, well, Dr. Taylor, we're standing in Las Vegas. I'll tell you what, I'll bet you $1 million we can reverse it. He said, well, he said, I'm not going to bet you $1 million, but I am going to do your program. He said, but he goes, but I really believe you're going to have to refund my money. He said, because I just can't believe 6 doctors can be wrong. And whatever your 88-day protocol is, you really think this can reverse it? Well, he's on the front of my website, and his words, not mine, he said, I cannot explain medically how this reversed, but it absolutely reversed.
You're telling people to do more than just drink more water. I realize, like, you have a program, you sell access to it, you don't have to, like, give away all the secrets here, but I would love to hear at least a few of the strategies, like what you can share as far as what you do.
Absolutely. And it really is. You know, it's 12 specific things in a sequence with an interval that we basically become the health GPS. Turn right, turn left, go straight. We give people very specific steps. And look, the first 3 steps, I hope everyone's already doing these 3 steps. But the first 8 steps, the first 8 steps that we share, Someone like you, you're probably already doing the 8 steps.
Maybe.
So, what we call our elite— our elite people do it for the last 4 steps. So, I have NBA players, I have professional football players, professional baseball players, I have bodybuilders and I'm talking, you know, top world champion weightlifters, those guys do it Because they wanna optimize, you know, their best, and everyone's gonna be optimized, you know, through cellular health. But the first 3 steps for everyone is water, walk, nutrition. You know, you're not gonna get hydrated by drinking water, but you can't get hydrated without it, you know? So you at least have to develop a healthy habit of drinking your water so that down the road, when you're on steps 7 through 12 and that cell starts transforming like a sponge, now that hydration can get in. And, not only does hydration get in, Ben, but it pushes out all the inflammation and all the toxins out of the body.
And, by the way, John, do you nerd out on alkaline water or structured water or reverse osmosis? Do you wind up making a specific recommendation on the type of water?
Absolutely not.
Okay.
Absolutely not. And, you'll get a kick out of this. I was invited to the United Nations To the Special Chamber of the United Nations for a science and wealth summit. I sat beside Dr. Perricone and Steve Forbes. You know, Steve Forbes was there to talk about wealth and I'm there to talk about science. And when Dr. Perricone heard me share, he wanted to partner with me on his hydrogen water company. He said, oh my gosh, no one in the world knows the science that you're talking about. He said, we need to partner. He said, I've already put $10 million into this hydrogen water, and I'll partner with you. And I just smiled at him and put my hand on his shoulder and said, uh, Dr. Perricone, there's nothing magical about your water. You know, your water is not going to penetrate a cell any better than tap water. It's not the water, it's the cell. And I'll share one other quick story just to validate this science. I had the top guys in the world of the Kangen water machine Come to my house for 3 hours and go through their whole thing. When they got done, Ben, I said, hey, would you guys mind if I measured your hydration?
The ultimate test.
They said, well, yeah, you could measure our hydration. I said, okay, well, how long you been drinking this reverse osmosis ionized water? They said, 10 years. I said, how much do you drink? 2 gallons a day. I said, wow, that's impressive. I measured their hydration. They were 12 and 15 pounds low on their hydration.
When you say you measured their hydration, were you doing like a phase angle measurement?
Yeah, so the, the device that I have that I give to all my clients is within 1% accuracy of the InBody. So it's not 100, but it's 99. It's close enough. It's close enough to get a good measurement.
Are you able to share which device you use?
Yes, so it's a very specific Renpho. Now, now I'll just share with the audience here, I ordered devices from all over the world and I compared them all to the $30,000 InBody device. And fascinatingly, it was alarming that there were devices, Ben, that were off by 20 to 30%. I'm talking devices that cost $300 and they were ridiculously, you know, far off. But, there is a Renpho device and I'll be happy to— we share it with everybody, by the way. We FedEx all of our clients one of them.
Did you say Renpho like R-E-N-F-O?
R-E-N-P-H-O.
I'll put a link in the shownotes. By the way, people listening, the shownotes are at BenGreenfieldLife.com/Jubilee, John's last name, but I'll include that info. So, you use the Renpho on these guys, you did the phase angle measurement, And they were like multiple gallons off.
Yeah. No, they're all completely dehydrated at 2 gallons a day of reverse osmosis ionized water. And then of course, I got on there and showed them I'm 20 pounds more hydrated and I drink way less water. Once you get hydrated, you don't even have to drink a gallon a day to stay hydrated. It's like filling up a glass. Once you fill up your glass and your cells are hydrated, You don't have to drink, you know, crazy water like that. You can drink a reasonable amount and stay completely hydrated. I'm 62%, by the way. 60% is perfect for a man. 55% is perfect for a woman. But there is no magic water. And Ben, I'm gonna share it 'cause it's just real science. So I heard all these people saying how horrible tap water is. And I thought, you know, I'm completely hydrated. I'm super healthy. My immune system is super boosted and optimized because of this cellular I haven't been sick for 29 years and I thought, I'm gonna try drinking tap water and see if it does anything to me. So, I drank tap water for 1 year, for 2 years, for 3 years. It smells bad, it tastes bad. I drank it for 3 years and guess what? I never got sick one day and I stayed completely hydrated.
And part of that, by the way, might depend on your municipality. It kind of goes both ways. A lot of fancy bottled water is just tap water. And, for example, I lived in Spokane, Washington for a while. I'm on a well now, but that was a city that actually didn't fluoridate their water and had decent tap water measurement. I think there are levels of cleanliness in tap water. From what I understand, for example, Los Angeles is supposed to be not that great. I don't know what you were drinking, but basically it sounds to me like you're saying Like, just drinking fancy filtered structured water, whatever, is not the number one key to cellular hydration.
And that's all I'm saying to people. Don't get hung up on the water. Focus on the cell. Focus on the cell. So, your water— and look, just like right now, you're taking a walk, which I love that.
I walk for almost all my podcasts right now.
I love it. I love it. So, people need to get their self in motion. You know, there's a scientific principle that an object in motion tends to stay in motion. And so think about it, people get older, what do they do? They stop moving as much as they used to move. So it is key to get yourself moving. And so I recommend first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, get up, get up and get moving. And I will share one of our little secrets, you know, here, here with people. So, so lean in, guys. This is a secret. So when you're out there on your walk, get up on the balls of your feet for a minute. Get up on the balls of your feet for a minute and then walk for 5 minutes and then get up on the balls of your feet for another minute and then walk for 5 minutes and get up on the balls of your feet. Your calf muscles are your second and third heart and it totally— it dynamically enhances the circulation. Dynamically enhances it because now you're getting that full circulation that you're supposed to have and you're getting 10 times better the blood flow just by getting up on the balls of your feet.
Yeah. And you're spot on. There was even a study a couple years ago that found that seated calf raises, literally activating the soleus muscle, even if you're on an airplane, reduce blood sugar. Just that mild pumping of the calves, I'm going to one-up you though, John. I went on a walk this morning. I try and finish the last 5 minutes of any walk that I go on walking backwards. It's kind of like an old knee protection proprioceptive awareness like tibialis training technique. So, I'm not only on the walk on the balls of your feet bandwagon but also walk backwards sometimes.
Well, see, and that's why, Ben, you would be in our elite program.
Because I can walk backwards.
We teach those principles in the elite program.
Okay, cool.
But we're trying to reach the masses first, right? We want to reach the masses and we, you know, look, 70% of Americans are 30 pounds or more overweight. We have the highest drug use. America uses 75% of the world's pharmaceutical drugs. We are the craziest pill-popping nation on the planet. And so, we're trying to help people and we've helped tens of thousands get off all their medication, lose all their fat, You know, have their best health, and and again, that that's what the masses need. So the guys, the water, get your walk in, getting up on the balls of your feet, and then on your nutrition, I say keep it simple out of the gate. And by simple, just cut out two things, just two things. Just cut out your sugar, cut out your white flour. When white flour touches human saliva, turns into pure table sugar, and that's going to turn off your fat burning switch and do some other really negative things. But if you'll just start. With the basic, just, okay, I'm gonna eat food I love, but I'm just gonna cut out sugar and white flour. Those are 3 keys that every person can do today. You can implement those 3 things today.
And of course, I don't want you to give away all the secrets, 'cause I know you make a living by teaching this stuff to people on your website. But I have on good authority, I think as I heard you talking about it on a podcast and we briefly emailed about it, that you're a fan of MSM, which is a sulfur-based compound. I actually even started putting a little, a quarter of a teaspoon into my glass of water in the morning. That's kind of a part of your program, yeah?
It is, but I want to encourage people this. Before you spend money on MSM, open up your cell so you can get the efficacy, the benefit of the MSM. And, the reason I am an absolute 30-year advocate of MSM. And again, I'm going to tell people though, you know, before you— you know, before a million people go out and buy it, it's not going to help you if you don't open up your cell-like sponge. But when you're doing that, let me tell you something. The water you're drinking every day, Ben, you said you have a well, right?
Yep.
All well water on the planet Earth is preloaded with MSM. Every stream, every natural water supply on the planet Earth. When God made water, he did not make H2O. Water is not H2O, not God water. God water is H2OMSM. There is no natural water on the planet Earth that does not have methyl sulfonate methane in it. And I say, if God put that in his recipe, we should not be taking it out. But every municipality in the world takes MSM out of the water because it is sulfur-based. So, it has a bitter taste to it and it has a smell to it. And people don't want that in their water.
I think it's in some— if I go to my wife's parents' house and take a shower there, you can smell the sulfur. I don't know if some municipalities differ in terms of the methyl sulfanyl methane. that they do or don't take out of the water. But, do you think it's a pretty good sign if you smell the water and it's sulfurous that what you're smelling is MSM?
It is if it's natural water. I guarantee you every municipality has taken it out. Yeah, they're taking it out for sure and maybe for other reasons, not just because it smells and tastes bad, but they're taking it out because it's super healthy for us. I mean, think about it. If God made water that way, that means since we were babies, we're supposed to be drinking MSM every day of our life. We're supposed to be bathing in it, absorbing it through our skin. It is an incredible anti-inflammatory, and I, I do recommend it to everybody. Everybody, uh, should be on, uh, MSM, and everyone should get healthy cells that will absorb MSM. And, and Ben, can people just hear us or can they see us?
They can see us.
Okay. So, look guys, if you could see me, look, I'm an all-natural guy. I'm no testosterone, I'm no peptides, I'm no HGH, I don't have any fillers in my face.
You don't have any gray hair.
I don't have gray hair.
Wait, as a part of this spiel, John, tell people how old you are.
65. 65 years old.
I'm not blowing smoke, you look like you're 40.
Well, thank you. And guess what? Look, and that happens to me everywhere I go. I get carded. People say, no blanking, Wade. Let me see your driver's license. And I love to show them to say, hey, guess what, guys? Don't be a hater because I'm a grape, not a raisin. You know, Ben, what's the difference between a grape and a raisin?
It's hydration.
It's hydration. And that's what I tell people. They're like, man, I can't believe your skin. I go, dude, I'm just a grape. That's all. I got some hydration in there. And think about when you see little old people, why do they become little old people? Do you guys know people shrink? People literally shrink 2, 3, 4, 5 inches. They shrink. Why? 'Cause they're shriveling up like a raisin because they lost their hydration. Ben, do you know I have clients that grow? I have clients that grow.
Do you think that's because of like osteoblastic, the actual bone growth activity, or do you think it's like they're kind of like plumping up? In terms of, you mentioned the muscle containing 75% water, basically almost expansion of the muscles and therefore expansion of the skin. And so, almost like a slight, yeah, raisin to grape effect.
I'm plumping them up in a healthy way. I don't want people to think of that as fat, right? They're losing their fat, but their spine that shriveled up and decompressed, the inflammation is gone and they stretch back out. And that's where they're growing. It's because their spine got compressed.
Because there could be an effect on disc hydration, right?
That's exactly right. So people don't realize how much hydration, how powerful it is in the disc. That's why people with 20, 30-year neck and back pain reverse it on this protocol because they get their healthy disc hydration in there and it decompresses the spine and those nerve endings are released and the pain is gone.
Often a much better strategy than back surgery. So, you're 65. I gotta ask you this, 'cause you also look like you're somewhat jacked. Do you lift weights?
I lift weights twice a week for about 30 minutes. I lift weights twice a week for about 30 minutes. And again, I really, I'm not a weightlifter, Ben. I'm not a weightlifter, but I am a believer in resistance training because as you know, just recently in the last couple years, every study on longevity Says longevity is tied to pretty much one thing: strength. The stronger you are, the longer and better, higher quality of life that you're going to live. And so, you know, again, I'm not a weightlifter. You know, thirty thirty minutes four days a week. You know that I'm doing you know chest and back and bicep and tricep. But I will say something interesting. I read a scripture in the Bible, Deuteronomy 33:25. In 1997 and it said, as your years are, so shall your strength be. And I thought, well, that's interesting. It looks like we're supposed to get stronger as we get older. And so, I kind of just set a little goal for myself to gain 1 pound on my bench press. I thought, I'm going to try to gain 1 pound a month.
1 pound a month. This is like the old Greek mythological tale of the guy who lifts the calf every day, right?
Yeah, but this really happened.
1 pound a month isn't very much. Like, when did you start doing that?
No, in 1997. So I could bench press 200 pounds twice.
Okay.
And I just said, hey, I'm just going to try to increase a pound a month. Like, that's so easy, right? It's such a small amount of weight. But, but it's— that was 1997, man. That was 29, 29 years ago. And interestingly, you know, I've done it. You know, I've done it. Now, once I got over about 350 pounds on my bench press, you know, I did go to a Hammer Strength because, you know, most people don't realize because they don't have this problem, but do you know the bar buckles? You know, it gets a wobble to it once you get over about 350 pounds and you could tweak your shoulder. So once I got over about 350, then I started going to the Hammer Strength, you know, for my heavier Because it still is a free weight machine, by the way.
Oh, yeah, totally. Hammer strength are great. Yeah, I consider that to be functional training. So, what'd you get up to on bench press?
555, 14 reps.
No, 14 reps?
14 reps.
555 is a freaking 1RM for most people. You do 14 reps?
I did 14 reps. Gold's Gym said it was a world record. I got a certified world record.
Holy moly. How old were you when you did that?
63.
No way.
Wow.
I don't know if that's a testament to your program or your genetics or maybe both, but that's pretty impressive.
Definitely not my genetics because again, I mean, I've never looked this good in my whole life, not even in my 20s, and never been this strong. I totally attribute it 100% to cellular hydration and just those steady, healthy habits that we teach in this protocol. And I just live it as an example.
Did you ever have bone on bone?
Oh, 100%. Both of my knees, Ben, if I walked into your house, you could hear me walking in, you know, snap, crackle, pop, snap, crackle, pop. You know, my bankers affectionately called me Mr. Rice Krispies because when I walked into a board meeting, I'd be snap, crackling, and popping.
Yeah, it's called crepitus in sports medicine. How is it now?
Smooth as silk. I, for fun, go to a football stadium and I run to the top and I run to the bottom. I run across the bleachers for 1 hour, up and down for an hour, smooth as silk like a high school kid.
Wow. I haven't done a phase angle measurement in a while. The last InBody that I did, I was pretty decent. I had bone-on-bone. It was worse in my left knee. I did get a stem cell infusion in that left knee. I rucked with 60 pounds straight uphill and then straight back downhill this morning. And, I've been doing that 3 times a week, tennis twice a week, pickleball twice a week. And technically, the last doctor who looked at both my knee MRIs said I had full-blown arthritis in both knees. Now, I don't know how much of your program I'm accidentally doing. Some of the things you've mentioned, I Definitely do. You talked about walking, nutrition, water. I have the well water and my other house was well as well, so I guess I was getting MSM before I was even adding it to the water. But, in terms of your own program, benching what you bench and doing what you do and having the silky smooth knees, are there any other insider tips or secrets that you can share with people?
Yeah, I'll love to share one people don't think about, which is Cellular trauma. So, you know, people don't stop and think about, you know, the fact that, you know, we are a triune being. You know, we are a spirit, we have a soul, we live in a body and all 3 have to be healthy to truly have real health, real health. So, we've all heard of, you know, health experts, they drop dead at 70 years old just like everybody else. You know, well, why? They were eating perfect diets, they're training perfectly. How do they drop dead at 70 years old? Well, because they never dealt with their cellular trauma. So, people, if your parents have had a— there's a study called the ACE study and you could go online, it's just A-C-E and you could take this test, it'll take 1 minute but you go through this test, Ben, of, you know, did you have alcoholic in your family or your parents get a divorce or is there some kind of abuse there? You know, just a list of 10 things and then you give yourself the score. For your life. But then, it's one thing to get the score, it's another thing to deal with that cellular trauma. So, my wife and I both had horrific cellular trauma from— and most of it comes from our childhood, by the way, but then we just grow up and we just kind of stuff it in the closet, we don't deal with it. So, both of my brothers, I had 2 brothers, both of my brothers were murdered. You know, I was in 20 life and death circumstances when I was growing up. I grew up hard, you know, in some very traumatic situations. And then, of course, when someone murders your brother, you want to kill that person, you know. So now you have this bitterness, this anger, this hatred, resentment, you know, that you lost your brothers. So I had to personally deal with that kind of trauma. My wife was sexually abused for 7 years of her life, from like 5 to 12.
Wow.
13 years old. And so she had all of this horrific cellular trauma. But because we have dealt with that ourselves in our own life, we help our clients to— hey, we say, look, this is not about just, you know, drinking some water and doing some exercise and doing a diet. No, we got to go deep. What's really in there? If you want to really be healthy, you've got to have a healthy mind and a healthy spirit. And you're only gonna have a healthy mind and spirit if you deal with the cellular trauma of your life.
Is part of that for you tied to any type of religious practice or spiritual practice?
Well, for me personally, it is. For me personally, it is. Now, we don't make it a mandatory part of them doing necessarily what we did. I personally had an encounter with Jesus Christ when I was 11 years old. And I did not grow up in a church family at all. My family was not religious and didn't go to church. We didn't have a Bible in our house. But I had a supernatural encounter at 11 years old, and I really believe that's what caused me to make different decisions. You know, I never drank alcohol or did a drug or, you know, I didn't make the same choices my brothers, you know, made. But I love my brothers. I have empathy for them because we grew up so hard. They were just trying to mask their pain, you know, that they had. But yes, for me personally, I would 100% say my faith and my relationship with Jesus Christ was a big part of me dealing with my cellular trauma, being able to release and forgive and get that out of myself at the cellular level.
Yeah, I think that's the power of— I'm a Christian. I think that's the power of Christianity is You can basically lay all your guilt and shame and fear and regrets at the feet of Jesus Christ. And, as long as you believe that he was a deity and he became a human and he died for your sins, it's literally that simple. A lot of people think there's all these hoops you have to jump through. It's like, no, you actually just pray and believe and that's it. Obviously, the difficult part about that is it takes faith and it feels a little bit woo-woo and magical, but that's what faith is. So, that's super cool that you've kind of locked that in as something that's helped you with the cellular trauma. The program, the Energize Health Program, you said 88 days. So, it's kind of like the journey for people is they join on a website or something like that and they get a series of—
Yeah.
Modules or videos?
Yeah, so they all start out with just a breakthrough call. They get on, they talk to somebody. I have no salespeople in my company, but I just have real people. You know, some of them are 20 and 30-year nurses, Ben, that they quit nursing after they experienced this. They said, hey, I got into nursing to make people healthy, and this really makes people healthy, you know, truly at the cellular level. And so then once they decide to enter into the 88-day program, every day they have a video of Chelsea and I. And you guys might—
Who's Chelsea?
Chelsea's my wife. Chelsea's my wife, Ben, and my wife is brilliant and she's funny. And she's so fun, she makes science entertaining. So, every day there's a daily video of myself and Chelsea. You have a coaching call once a week. Every Tuesday night, Chelsea and I also do a large coaching call. So, everybody gets us every day and then they get us once a week and then they have a coach that they're meeting with once a week. As well to keep them on track. And again, most of the people, they only need the 88 days, but if they're like me and they have a more serious issue, then we just call it doing another round. So they'll do another round of the 88 days. For me to completely rebuild my cartilage, that was 3 rounds. That was 3 rounds, 3 and a half rounds to do that. But you can attest, right? If it took you less than a year to get back— and by the way, I have 2 and a half centimeters I have no arthritis in my body anywhere. It's worth it, right?
It's better than a knee replacement.
Yeah. So 29 years later, I got these perfect knees. I never had to have a knee replacement. And so it really is a lifetime program. So people have access to us for a lifetime on their Tuesday night coaching call and all their resources. It really is a lifetime program.
Well, I will— I know you gave me like a discount code and stuff that people could use, so I'll put all that at BenGreenfieldLife.com/Jubilee. It's such a cool story and something that just flies under the radar, I know, when it comes to the idea of things like walking and MSM and your nutrition protocol, the avoidance of sugar. It's super interesting. I find it fascinating. And, I know that a lot of people who are steeped in allopathic medicine might find it hard to believe, But you got a lot of testimonials, man, so you're doing something right.
Well, again, that's the joy of our life is tens of thousands of people. And if you go research us online at the Better Business Bureau or Trustpilot, any of those things, you'll pretty much see this.
I know. I tried because I wanted to find out if you were a kook before I interviewed you and you actually like— it's very difficult to dig up anything bad about your program. So, That convinced me to have you on the show, actually.
Well, hey, I'll one-up you. It's impossible. There's not one negative comment out there.
Yeah, yeah.
There's not one negative comment out there.
