Ben Greenfield offers a brief first-person update on his experience using the Under Armour mouthpiece during various workouts (swimming, cycling, running, lifting), reporting reduced perception of discomfort and claiming it may lower stress/cortisol and pain by keeping the TMJ open. He recounts a listener (Brad) who reported claiming the device on insurance as a sleep aid, paying $65 of a $495 price, and says he'll try it for teeth grinding. The video is an informal testimonial-style product update with practical tips and anecdotal evidence.

Hey, it's Ben Greenfield from BenGreenfieldFitness.com and I'm back with another update on the Under Armour mouthpiece. Now, I've been wearing this in my workout. Swimming, cycling, running, lifting. I definitely notice a tendency for it to take some of the burn kind of off my mind while I'm working out. I don't notice that there's less burn. I just noticed I'm able to deal with it a little bit better. So it might just be that it allows me to, as the literature says, make a little less cortisol, be a little bit less stressed out, and feel a little less pain while I'm working out. Remember, the whole concept behind this is that the ancient Viking warriors used to chomp down on leather straps. If we keep the TMJ open, it actually helps to decrease some of the discomfort during exercise. Now, like I said, I've noticed it a little bit, but I had Brad, one of the listeners to the BenGreenfieldFitness.com podcast, write me in and tell me that he was actually able to only pay $65 of the $495 price tag on this by claiming it on insurance as a sleep aid to help with teeth grinding. Now, I haven't tried it for teeth grinding, but after hearing that, I'm about to, so I'll let you know how I feel about that. I don't do a lot of grinding in my teeth, but I figured I'd try it out and see if the Under Armour mouthpiece actually helps me to sleep a little bit better. So we'll see. But till next time, keeping you updated on the latest in fitness, nutrition and wellness, this is Ben Greenfield from bengreenfieldfitness. Com.
