I'm not a chef with pretty much zero formal training in cooking. I've achieved any remote semblance of cooking chops I might have by learning recipes from a mashup of cooking videos I've come across on YouTube. Scientists and physicians and things like food chemistry who I have a chance to speak with on a weekly basis for my podcast. And sure, I took advanced courses during college in biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, physics and even advanced human nutrition courses and I'm sure those have assisted my learning curve in the kitchen. But I will be the first to admit that when it comes to cooking and especially writing a cookbook, I have full blown imposter syndrome. My wife, she's a rancher girl who can, with nary a drop of sweat, whip up a crispy roasted chicken on a Friday night and a batch of mouth watering sourdough cinnamon rolls on a Saturday morning. My twin 12 year old boys. They've been taking cooking classes since they were four and can expertly fashion a chocolate souffle or a mushroom risotto for their frickin lunch. Me, I grew up on boxed macaroni and cheese, frozen hot dogs and whey protein shakes. Yet I do like to tinker in the kitchen. I enjoy cracking the code on how to use my knowledge of science and spices and salt and acid and heat and fat to unlock nutrients and enhance the digestibility of the vast array of scrumptious foods that we are blessed with on this planet. I'm often asked for all the crazy and unique recipes I frequently mention on podcasts or articles or in my books. So ultimately I finally did wind up writing a cookbook. It's really my own personal collection of recipes for boundless energy. Recipes that are woven into my daily and weekly routine is true dietary staples. Yeah, I regularly eat everything in this cookbook. I get into everything from fermented wild plant pesto, game meats, my wife's lovely sourdough bread and pizza recipes, my twin boys scrumptious pumpkin donut and smoothies.
