Does Compression Gear Really Work?

Ben Greenfield tests Blitz 110% compression gear with ice pockets. Recovery benefits have solid evidence behind them, but performance gains are mixed. He shows how to freeze the sleeves and wear them for about 20 minutes.

Hey, it's Ben Greenfield. And you may notice that I'm wearing knickers. I'm not trying to make a new fashion statement, but I just got done with a bike ride and I'm trying out these compression garments. I've been using these for about two weeks now. And here's the cool thing. Compression has a lot of good research going for it. When it comes to recovery, the performance benefits of compression kind of go back and forth. You could say they help. Some other studies say they may not. But the evidence that compression garments help with recovery is really, really strong. Now, what's really cool is that for a long time, doctors have known that ice helps remove inflammation out of the legs after a workout. Well, here's the cool thing. These things are called blitz 110%. You're going to see me this race season also wearing their calf guards or their calf sleeves for compression during my races because I really feel like they help my muscles compress considerably during the race. But for these actual knickers, what they have are ice sleeves. So the way this works is you have ice that looks like this. And all that I do after my workout is I open up the sleeve and I put ice here.
That'S cold and I put ice on the back here. These things come with the the compression sleeves and you just soak them in ice for a couple minutes and drop them in your freezer. And be careful where you put these. Don't get too much shrinkage. But basically your quads, your adductors, there's a couple pockets down by the knees as well, and they just slide right in. You can cut these pieces of ice as well if you want them to fit a little bit better. So that's the way these work. Now, I can leave these on for about 20 minutes. I don't have to go shiver and suffer in an ice bath. So they're called Blitz 110%. I'm going to give you guys a discount code for these so you can try them out. I'm swearing by these things right now in terms of decreasing soreness after my training sessions. Highly useful. Check them out. Blitz 110%. This is Ben Greenfield signing out.
