Jeffrey Jaime (CISSP) records a short YouTube monologue from Jamaica demonstrating how to shop for affordable, relatively healthy groceries when produce options are limited. He shows a bag of items (canned tuna and sardines, coconut milk, yams in syrup, mixed nuts, pears, red peppers, cabbage, cheese, dressing, dark chocolate), explains how he plans breakfasts and lunches for a week on a tight budget, and states the haul cost was $30.

On my arrow bars. If you have questions, leave them underneath this video. Alright, so here is the bag of mystery items from the grocery store in Jamaica and they just went flying all over the place. Pick this stuff up. Okay. And there's one under the bed too. Come here little tuna. Alright, so first of all, we of course have our cheap source of protein. Tuna flaked in water.
Coconut milk, dense, affordable. Remember I'm shopping at a place that really doesn't have a huge variety of produce. More coconut milk. And yes, that's the regular stuff. Sticks to your ribs. Yams in syrup, good source of post workout energy. More tuna, more protein, this time with calcium. Yes, those are sardines canned in lemon juice. Getting some ideas here for what you can do with limited choice. Alright, so that's the extent of the canned foods and by the way, I did say for an entire week. But my dinners are taken care of here so we're talking breakfasts and lunches. Alright. Mixed nuts, yes, they are a dense source of energy. Bunch of pears, need a little bit of sugar in addition to the yams caked in syrup. Red peppers. The reason that I got those is because those are going to go along with the sardines and the tuna when they are wrapped inside cabbage leaves. Hooray. And yes, I am trying to go relatively gluten free this week because I try and do that before I rice a little bit of cheese to also go inside the cabbage with the red peppers and the sardines or tuna. And oh, what do we have down here? Still a little bit of dressing just in case it tastes nasty. This dressing was like 50 cents so I picked it up just in case. And of course my one cheat food here, the dark chocolate which will go quite nicely wrapped inside of the bananas that I will get at dinner there off the buffet. Alright, so folks, that is it. Eating healthy on a budget. That's 30 bucks worth of food at a grocery store with very limited choices and that will last me for the week. Yummy.
