A podcast episode hosted by Ben Greenfield featuring Matt Reiman discussing epigenetics, the distinction between genotype and phenotype, and how genetics plus lifestyle (travel, diet, relationships) influence optimal exercise and nutrition. Topics include personalized diet (e.g., high-protein breakfasts not universally ideal), body typing (ecto-/meso-/endomorph), and apps/tools that use epigenetic/phenotypic data to guide behaviors like travel timing and vacations.

Hey, what's up you guys? It's Ben Greenfield. Hair done nicely as usual. And I just got done recording a amazing. A amazing. An amazing podcast interview with Matt Reiman. And this guy is in the field of epigenetics and fitness and nutrition and specifically focuses on how your genetics influence the type of exercise and nutritional choices that you should make for, but also more importantly, how things like where you've traveled, what you've eaten recently, the life that you've led and are living, your relationships and your social interactions also influence this. So big difference between what's called the genotype and the phenotype. Big difference between genetics versus the actual epigenetics or expression of your built in genetics. And man, we took some deep dives into some really cool stuff like how a high protein diet breakfast might not be right for everyone. Why some people do really well on veganism versus carnivorism versus omnivore ism, if that's even a word. We talked about special apps that will do things like tell you when you should travel or what would be the best time for you to take a vacation during the year based on your epigenetics and based off what's called your phenotype is telling you. We talk about body typing and the difference between the ectomorphs and the ectomesomorphs and the endomorphs in terms of everything from exercise choices to the cognitive dominance, the actual brain frequencies. Super duper interesting show.
