What I Eat In A Day

Ben Greenfield walks through his daily eating routine: mineralized water and coffee in the morning, a smoothie with frozen raw liver and creatine, grass-fed beef leftovers for lunch, and a 1,500-calorie dinner of roast chicken and mushrooms. He emphasizes this works for him but may not suit everyone.

Often ask what I eat in a typical day. So here we go. My morning starts off with a giant mason glass jar of water with hydrogen tablets, Quinton Adrenal cocktail which is kind of like a vitamin C minerals cocktail and baking soda sometimes add especially during the summer when I'm sweating more. And that's this stuff which are these little packets of electrolytes called Protect. Now it's not brewed up yet but about 6:30 or so I'm gonna turn to the coffee maker. I usually go with a cup of kion. Okay, cup of kion coffee. That's about like oh three or four mornings of the week. Sometimes decaf. Like once a month I switch to decaf, sometimes regular. And then the other kind of secret spot is I do mushrooms. So chaga, reishi, cordyceps, lion's mane. That's my stash of mushrooms. And so I kind of go back and forth between mushrooms and coffee and then occasionally I get tea from this place from Kauai Pharmacy and I'll do a little bit of loose leaf tea that's on, you know, occasionally like once a week I might do that. The last beverage. This stuff's called cacao. These are like cacao nibs called my cacao. So I don't drink the same hot beverage every morning, just coffee, mushroom tea, the tea from Kauai Pharmacy or my cacao. So Sometimes it's at 10:30am, sometimes it's right before my 9am ish morning workout. But I do a bottle of this stuff, bottle of feel free. And this is kind of like my, my energy boost. It just kind of depends on how I'm feeling. Alright, so it's about 10am I've already worked for about three hours this morning on the coffee and the water. I had a workout, about 40 minutes of exercise, high intensity intervals, little cold plunge and now it's time for my smoothie. Nine times out of ten, unless I'm taking my kids out to breakfast or something, I just have a smoothie. It varies the recipe but generally this is going to give you a really good idea. So in the summer because the body does better with carbs and this is the summer right now when I'm filming this, I'll put a little bit of blueberry in there for some carbs, Wild organic blueberries. I also have some frozen liver. Those are not Reese's Pieces, those are liver bites or raw liver. I put a few chunks of raw liver that I keep in the freezer in my smoothie, do a giant heaping scoop of the kion creatine and the kion clean protein. I'll a lot of times go back and forth between the protein and the colostrum. But this clean protein vanilla tastes great with the blueberries and you don't even taste the liver, honestly. A little bit of Ceylon cinnamon. It's Mexican salt. It's really, really good kalina salt. And then I like to, even though the vanilla protein is pretty naturally sweet, I use a little bit of extra vanilla organic liquid stevia in there. And then I blend it all up and I'll toss shoot in the fridge here. I'll toss some cacao nibs on there. Typically occasionally I'll break up a little bit of one of these keto bricks and put it on there for a little bit of crunch. And so I'll toss a few crunchies on there and yeah. Oh. Along with my smoothie, I'll typically have some probiotics. I like this seed probiotics. I'll have about three of these and then, and then I actually take a handful of these enzymes and I toss them in the smoothie. This is bioptimizers. I'll use either master or these because they actually help you assimilate even more of the protein in there. So that's kind of like what I'll have for supplements. Yummy, yummy, yummy. Blend it all up in the nutrient bullet. Blend it all up in the nutrient bolt bowl. All right, lunchtime. Big one now. It's about 2pm I actually don't eat a ton for lunch, but I'll show you what I do for lunch. These days. This is a big pile of just like grass fed grass finished beef from dinner the night before. Lunch for me a lot of times is leftovers. I don't do a lot of raw vegetables. I instead use vegetable powders. So I'll be sprinkling some of the Kawaii pharmacy cleanse powder on this. Then a little bit of Thomas Cowan summer savory powder. Just easier on my gut to just do meats and vegetable powders versus meats and lots of big salads and raw vegetables. I like to have a little bit of baby food. I'm not kidding. I have baby food with almost every breakfast. This is the serenity kids baby food. It's just like organic vegetables and herbs and some nice oils. And I'll literally like pour this on the meat as like a sauce. And then I put a little primal kitchen mustard or ketchup on there as well for a little bit of filler. Keep me Full. I like this sea moss gel. I'll also sometimes do like a chia seed slurry or a pumpkin puree that'll go along with the meat. And then in the freezer in here I've got some water that's cooling right back in there. And in that water I've got some organifi green juice. I'll usually have greens or bone broth with lunch, a little bit of reishi for relaxation. And then I'll do a giant handful of ancestral supplements, organ meats with lunch in this case today I'm going to do some intestines, I'm going to do some collagen. And that's pretty much my midday meal. Oh, and I forgot one other thing. I make these little apple cider vinegar gummies. I've got a recipe somewhere on Instagram if you look it up or google my name. Plus apple cider vinegar gummies. These things sell for a ton of money, but they're so cheap and easy to make. It's just gelatin and apple cider vinegar. And I have a couple of these with the meal to help stabilize blood sugar. So it's about halfway through lunch and dinner. Right now around 4pm I'm driving in my truck out to an appointment and I thought I should let you know what I do for beverages. Just beer all day long. No, I'm just kidding. So you can see here in the console beside me are probably my two favorite things I drink all day in between meals. One's Pellegrino, huge fan of a good mineral rich soda water. And the other one down there, if I could flip it around a little bit here for you to see is actually Zevia. And Zevia is kind of a natural stevia flavored soda. Long day today. Now it's time to show you what I do for dinner. So I'll usually have some kind of meat. Tonight I'm going to do a roast chicken off the Traeger, just a whole spatchcock roast chicken, a little rub olive oil on it, some fresh mushrooms that I've harvested from the backyard with some sea salt and olive oil. And then we got some nice wild strawberries growing up in the garden. Some sprouted almonds, arugula with some goat cheese and red onions. Now as you saw from my lunch, I don't do a ton of vegetables but I usually have a little bit of salad with dinner. Typically top everything off with more primal kitchen goodness. Mustard and bone looking barbecue sauce. And then for a drink sometimes the organic wine. Tonight I'm going with this. I kind of go back and forth between hard ketones. This is what this is. It's kind of like an alcohol alternative that makes you kind of have the same effect as alcohol. Put down a Moscow Mule with some electrolytes and some ice. So that's, that's what dinner looks like. Oh, I forgot. I also got some carrot fries going in there in the air fryer. So, yeah, that's kind of a typical dinner. And dinner's my biggest meal. You know, probably about 1500 calories or so for dinner. Well, folks, I hope you enjoyed that. A day in the life of my eating. Now, of course it's not the same from day to day, but I, I chose a day to show you this on which I was generally eating the type of things I usually eat. So obviously not every diet is going to be perfect for everybody. What I eat might not agree with you, but nonetheless, I hope I gave you a few cool ideas. And I know you're wondering right now, Ben, do you ever eat dessert? Well, the fact is, lately I've just been eating extra meat and then skipping dessert. I sleep better, I feel better. If I were going to do dessert, be a little piece of dirt, dark chocolate, which I'm a sucker for. But these days I'm not really not doing dessert. So just extra dinner. There you have it. Thanks for watching.
