What Is The Joe Rogan Shake?

Ben Greenfield reviews and tastes Joe Rogan's morning shake in a short YouTube video. He lists the shake's ingredients (kale, cucumber, four celery stalks, one pear, four garlic cloves, a piece of ginger, and about 8 ounces of water), blends the mixture on camera, and reports that while the ingredients are nutritionally strong the resulting flavor is unpleasant.

Hey, what's up, folks? I'm Ben Greenfield, and there's a pretty popular shake out there that a guy named Joe Rogan makes. And Joe's a complete beast. He's a fighter, he's a comedian, he's a podcaster, and he drinks this shake every morning. So I thought I'd give it a try and see what Joe's shake actually tastes like. And in this video, I'm going to tell you what I actually think of this shake and how you might be able to make it a little bit better. But it starts pretty dang good with kale. Kale is a superfood, as you probably know. It's one of those superfoods that kind of gets kicked to death. But it is good. It's a great thing to put in a smoothie. So Joe Rogan puts kale in his morning smoothie. Now, the next thing he puts in his smoothie is cucumber. Cucumber is a great liver cleanse. And it's also chock full of fiber and soluble fiber specifically. It's got a lot of water content. It's a great little way to introduce some liver supporting components in there as well. So the next thing that Joe puts into his morning smoothie is four stalks of celery. So so far we've got four kale sprigs, or whatever the hell you call a piece of kale. We have one cucumber, and we have four celery stalks. Now, the next thing that Joe Rogan puts into his shake is one pear. And I've got a pear diced up here. Going to drop this pear in here. And then just a couple other things for some flavor and some antimicrobial and antiviral activity. One is garlic. I've got four cloves of garlic. I don't know what I think about putting this in a morning shake. Might affect my breath the rest of the day, but it is a really good blood tonic. And then the last thing is ginger, which is one of the more powerful digestive aids known to man. And this is about.
A pager sized chunk of ginger that I've cut into small pieces. You could technically boil it for better absorption, but I don't have time to do stuff like that. So all that's going to go in there. Got about 8 ounces of water.
That'Ll go in there, and I'm going to blend. And let's see what this thing does.
All right, so we blended this thing up. Let's see what it tastes like.
It's actually a pretty good texture. I like to eat my smoothie with a spoon. So I actually like it a little bit thicker than this.
Wow. It tastes like shit.
It's got really good ingredients in it. I'll say that for the Joe Rogan shake. I would not enjoy drinking this every morning. I think I have celery stuck in my teeth. Now.
Let'S talk about how we could make this thing better. I'm going to tell you how we can power up this smoothie and make it into a real man smoothie. That's actually going to be good for an athlete, good for recovery. Grow a little hair on your chest, but not in the way that the flavor of this thing does. Alright, first thing, we've got a pear in there. Anytime that we add fruit into a smoothie, we want to stabilize insulin levels. If it were me, I would add a little bit of cinnamon into the Joe Rogan smoothie. So that's number one. I'd put about one or two teaspoons of cinnamon in there. That would give it a little bit of nice flavor too. The next thing that I'd put in for some texture and some healthy fats to stabilize the the Appetite would be 1/2 to 1 avocado. This gives it a nice creamy texture too. The other thing that gives some added fat and gives it some nice creamy texture would be coconut milk. This is a BPA free organic coconut milk. It's native forest brand. I would add this as I spill it all over myself instead of water. It's going to make this thing a lot more creamy and flavorful. So I also add coconut milk into the Joe Rogan smoothie. I'm a big fan of the polyphenols and the antioxidants. And also I mean it's chocolate. So how can you argue I like a dark chocolate like a baking cocoa. And I'd put about two teaspoons of this or so into the Joe Rogan smoothie as well. Now a few other things. Brazil nuts. I get them in the shell. I order these off Amazon.com they're good for thyroid, they're good for testosterone. I'd shell about three of these bad boys and throw them in there as well. So that's another thing I'd add to the Joe Rogan smoothie. Next. You've probably heard of bone broth, how it heals the gut and it's got really, really good joint building properties. But it takes a hell of a long time to make. So I'd get like a good organic gelatin. This is Great Lakes gelatin, gives you everything that bone broth has in it without actually having to make bone broth. And you'd put about one or two teaspoons of this in there. It's going to give it a little bit of extra texture, too. The last thing I know, Joe Rogan, he's a big fan of hemp based protein. This is a pea rice hemp based protein that I use. It's really, really good to start off your day with about 30 to 40 grams of protein, especially if you're a hard charging athlete. So that's another thing that I'd put into this. You add all those into the Joe Rogan smoothie and I guarantee it's going to taste a lot better. It's going to be better for you and you're going to enjoy that. Versus choking this green mess down. Even though it's good for you. Doesn't taste that.
