Episode 31: Your Spiritual Heartbeat & Aligning Your Inner Truth with Outer Success with Liv Fisch

In episode 31 of the Super Connections Podcast, host Jennifer K. Hill interviews master coach and bestselling author Olivia Fish. Fish introduces her upcoming book Spiritual Heartbeat and the seven‑principle framework that helps individuals and teams align inner experience with outer success. She explains key practices such as “radical living” (taking full responsibility and moving from victimhood to liberation), “conscious complaining” (venting with a trusted partner to uncover underlying desire), and “authentic living” (stripping away masks to speak truthfully). The conversation expands to practical tools like storytelling for self‑re‑authoring, creating “human‑medicine” partnerships, and using the Be Human Medicine app as a digital hub for guided meditations and embodied leadership practices. Throughout, both hosts stress the importance of gentle self‑compassion, horizontal relationships, and community support. The episode ends with a call‑to‑action to pre‑order the book (launching October 21) and to join the Be Human Medicine community.

Thank you so much, Jennifer. It's my pleasure.
Yeah, so I love— from the moment you and I did our first call about a couple months back, I just loved your message, love what you're up to in the world, and I thought you could be a great guest for this show to teach people how do we super connect. You and I were joking in the call, like, I'm really good, I can connect people outwardly, but you're so good at helping people connect inwardly. So tell us a little bit about maybe some of your favorite tools and frameworks, whether it's the Spiritual Heartbeat or other tools that you want to share about today, of how we can help people to super connect to themselves?
Yeah, great question. A powerful question that I think we can all ask ourselves, right? Because it's not a one-size-fits-all, unfortunately. But what I've decided to do is do my best to really bring together the 20 20 years of knowledge I've accumulated with the coaching I've done. And I've put together these 7 spiritual principles that are in this book. And what I recognize is that when my clients come to me, they come to me with lots of different challenges or stories or pain points in their life. And what I found is that the answer is usually one of these 7 spiritual principles. And with the help of my own guides, with my own work, as well as deep meditation and a little bit of research help with some AI tools, we narrowed it down to these 7 spiritual principles. And it's been really fun to do. And I'm so excited to share it with people. Although I will give you some, yeah, I will give you some practical things for your guests here and the people, 'cause you ask a very interesting question. A lot of people have a lot of external success and they have everything they need. They have food, they have a roof, they have friends, they have health, enough health, enough vitality, but they don't necessarily feel that good inside. And how do you match that inner success essentially with the external versions of success and really connect to the thing that matters most, which is your connection to yourself, your purpose, who you are and why you're here. And when we can get that dialed in, it feels really good. The impact of that is big. So I'll just share a few principles with you, but I think that the space I like to start with people is what I call radical living, and the ability to really be honest with yourself and recognize that you are in charge of creating your life, and not by default, but by design. So when we claim that full responsibility for life and for what we're creating in it, we are able to step out of victimhood and into liberation by choosing that truth over the comfort And action over blaming external circumstances. So the thing I like to start with clients who maybe are coming in pretty stuck is to just recognize where are you complaining, blaming, or putting— waiting for someone else to solve this thing for you. That is so important and it's so natural. Give a call to someone on the phone and say, oh, I'm so busy. This happened, that happened, this happened. And so did this and that and this. But we can practice conscious complaining because we do need places to connect and vent. Yeah.
And that's so amazing. I love that.
Yeah, we have to practice. So if we can create relationships, we can call our friend and say, hey, can I just do some conscious complaining with you so I can identify here's the discomfort? Because underneath all of our complaints is a powerful desire that sits right underneath, and that is our job. And with the help of community, with our friends, with our networks, if we can recognize and say to them, Hey, let me do some conscious complaining so I can find the powerful desire underneath. Boom, we are in radical living. And so much of our world right now is focused on the violence, the despair, the challenges, but we're not making time for the vision. So if we as individuals are not connected to our desires, how will we ever create a bigger vision for our reality? This is the first step. This is the first principle I talk about in my book. And it's something I would love to encourage your listeners to just try out. Have these little buddies that you do this with. It's super, super helpful.
I love that you teach this. I think I just wrote an article about this. I write a weekly article on LinkedIn called Inspired Living Tools, which if you don't have one, definitely write a spiritual heartbeat, a LinkedIn article. It's so much fun. You send it out every week at the same time. And I wrote something about this and it's something that I was taught many years ago of Sometimes people just need to vent. Like my husband and I, it happened this morning. He was super frustrated. A bunch of bills came in all at the same time. This guy's like sending bills all different places and nothing's organized and he's, ah, really frustrated. And my old default was to try and fix it 'cause I have 183 tools. It's, oh honey, let's do Sedona Method, et cetera, et cetera. And just like you said though, this is where my husband and I have now learned because it used to cause fights. And I would say, hey love, do you need me to listen or do you need me to solve it for you? And that's, I think, part of the partnership of these constant conscious complaining partners and accountability buddies that you're talking about. I have another friend, Jules, where we've done this for each other for 8 or 9 years. And we just say, do you have the space? Can you hold space for me right now?
Beautiful.
So important because unless you have a committed buddy, if more of us had committed buddies, there would be less disasters because we're all just dumping on each other. And then person B doesn't have the space to receive what person A is saying. And then both now are in a like complete meltdown and then it just proliferates. So what if we could consciously ask, can this person receive what I'm about to say?
Oh, that's so beautiful. That what you just described right now is why I am building that Be Human Medicine platform and the movement, because you're, what you're saying to me is, oh, I was going to just sit there and fix my husband's problem, but I've learned to be human medicine for him. That is the whole goal of the movement right there. I'm like, yeah, do that, people, and decide to create those agreements with your partners. With your friends. Like, it actually has to start in just your world. This is a big movement that we're creating together with all of the partnerships coming in, but really it's starting within ourselves. Can I be human medicine for myself? Can I be with what actually is? I've got my journal behind me on what I call my nap bed, and this morning I was just doing conscious complaining, but I read it again and circled, oh, powerful desire. It's that. Oh, powerful desire. It's that. So you can do that for yourself too. You don't need necessarily to do it with people. But it does really help to do it with people as well. It's very hard though, I'll say, if you haven't practiced being human medicine for yourself, it is, in my opinion, impossible to be human medicine for other people. Because if you're not okay with your own pain and discomfort and being with that, and then learning how to alchemize it into something wonderful for yourself, it's going to be hard when people are suffering. And this is how codependency starts. We're saying to our people around us, I need you to feel better so that I can be okay in my day. And so let me go fix your problem. But that's manipulation at its worst, codependency when we're doing our best, and it's called empathy when we're thinking we're enlightened about it. But really, it's not great. It's not great medicine, and we can do better. And this is what I'm asking people to say yes to. Just part of this one principle is It, it, it'll change pretty much what I've seen, like 45% of the problems. If you can really say yes to radical living in this way, cuz you end up out of the drama triangle, you're no longer a victim. There's another exercise where I have people tell me essentially their life story from like start to finish in as much detail as possible. And I pull out all the juicy parts and we spend quite a lot of time on this, but you could do this on your own as well. And if you can recognize that how you tell your story It's one of the most important things about how you create your future. That is also a really important way for you to be human medicine to yourself and to others as well. And so I have a group of a forum I'm in where we've done that for each other, and it's quite beautiful. It's quite empowering. And so to pull out like, oh, you're saying your story like this, but is that actually true? What actually happened? What is, what are you gaining from that? What is the gift, the opportunity? Or the offering that wants to come from the thing that happened. So we're not denying the hard stuff. We're actually just accepting it as a part of reality and then deciding what to do about it. And that is a really powerful little nugget and tool as well. It doesn't have to be your life story. You could just pull out also just like a little thing that you feel stuck about, but noticing how you say something, anything, a story, a challenge, how your day went really does matter in that Yeah,
and if I may piggyback on that, one thing that's coming to my mind, Liv, around this is I sometimes encourage people to listen to other people they respect and admire and listen to the way they speak and the way they talk about their stories. Like even in my day-to-day life, if I say something I'm not committed to, if I catch myself even complaining, now there are times where I'll say, honey, I need to vent, or I'll tell my friend Jules, I need you to hold the bucket. We call it taking out the trash or holding the bucket for each other, right? Right. But I do it very consciously. And on the times where I'm not intending to complain, where it's just, oh shoot, I just started doing that thing, then I say cancel and then I edit and I reimagine what I wanna say. And I'll say in real time, ooh, that's not what I was committed to saying. Cancel, cancel. Here's how I'm going to reframe that in this moment. And the invitation is observe the people in your life. Sometimes it can be very hard to observe yourself as a non-biased observer without getting into judgment. It's hard to do it even with other people, right? sit in observation with no judgment attached. And when we do this with other people that we respect, admire, or even those that irk you, just look at what are the words they use? What are the phrases they use? Are they committed to the way that they're speaking and how are their outcomes? You look at some of the most successful people in the world and love or hate them, they are, they do speak. We all speak our reality into existence. Our words are our paintbrushes that create our world.
Yeah, absolutely. I do think that we can use each other, right? We're not isolated beings on this planet. There's a big movement towards like self-care and self-awareness and take care of yourself and figure it out. And radical responsibility and radical living is not about doing it on your own. It's actually recognizing you have the power to learn from others in a very conscious way as well, which is what I think you're speaking of. And to be able to Essentially just notice the things that light you up. Oh, I like the way that person said that. I like the way they tell their story. I see that they're effective in this way. So now I can say, I can't be them, but how is my— what is my authentic blueprint to getting that same success, that same effectiveness? And I think that's moving into a different principle, which is called authentic living. When you strip away the mask and express your truth with a lot of integrity, courage rooted in the deep self-acceptance. And it's not easy to do because a lot of people are often comparing up or comparing down.
Mm-hmm.
And that comparing up or comparing down is where the judgment comes in. You can create horizontal relationships and recognize that there's no above or below. You're actually able to learn a lot faster from the people around you or the people you just see on Instagram or wherever. You can learn from that by not— by recognizing when there's a comparison up or down. And then really work on where are you holding vertical relationships still and see if you can, even sometimes it happens in the spiritual community with people's guides and spirit team. You can hear it in the language of, oh, my guides are this thing up here and it's horizontal everywhere, horizontal relations everywhere. That is super, super effective in some of the pieces you're talking about to learn faster. This whole, the whole point of this movement as well is to be more effective. is to actually learn faster and achieve at the highest level possible your potential and the potential of the collective. And so these are strategies. It's like the real— this taking the spirituality out of the yoga studio or in your meditation and bringing it into the tangible in everyday life. That is the hope that I think both of us share in our work together, that hope to bring to people.
That's incredible. We have so much wisdom, Olivia, and we want to leave, we want to give everybody a taste of the milk, but not the whole cow, right? Because we want them to check out the book, Spiritual Heartbeat. When is the book coming out, by the way?
Yeah, so the book is going to be launching October 21st. I would love your audience to do pre-orders now because that helps for us to all spread the word. It's on Amazon right now, so you can order it and it will be delivered to you October 21st.
Amazing. Is there any last little bit of wisdom, something maybe that was another little tip or something I didn't get to ask you that you'd love to leave our listeners and audience with today?
Today, I, from when I was sitting in meditation myself, I just felt this feeling of gentle. Be gentle with yourselves, be gentle to others, assume love, and move with grace. So that was the message that I received today. And so I'll share that with your audience as well.
I love that. I think that if we could all extend ourselves and one another a little bit more grace and compassion, it would make for a more spacious world, a little bit less tension, less anxiety, and more capacity, I think, to be with one another rather than resisting one another, life, politics, war. Life is the way it is. Could we just choose ourselves the way we are? Could we choose one another the way we are? And could we choose the world the way it is? And then recreate something new from grace.
Amen. Love it. Let's do that.
All right. Beautiful, my friend. Aside from the book, is there anywhere else that you'd like people to connect with you, follow you?
Yeah, they can download the Be Human Medicine app. We're starting to take the founding members in. If you're interested, you can be a founding member. We'd love to. You can go on your Apple Store and download the app. You can go to my website, oliviafish.com, and check out the services and the group gatherings that I'm doing. And Hopefully I'll see you on the other side.
Amazing. Thank you so much, Olivia Fish, for joining us today. And my intention, as always, for each and every one of you is to super connect to yourself, others, and your purpose so that way we can all live fulfilled lives and appreciate it and connect at a very deep level. May you find intimacy with yourself and with everybody you encounter in your life. I am Jennifer K. Hill, and it's a pleasure to be with you.
