159: Best Tools Every Course Creator Or Coach Needs - #GrowYourLife
Jeremiah Krakowski walks through the tools course creators and coaches actually need to build a business. He covers AI writing tools, email marketing, community building, and scheduling software, with advice from his own experience growing coaching and course businesses.
Hey, everyone. Thanks for listening to the Grow youw Life podcast. My name is Jeremiah Krakowski. On this podcast, I help course creators, coaches, authors, trainers, consultants grow their businesses to help you reach 20,000 per month, 30,000 per month, and beyond. We have clients that are doing eight figures with the strategies that we teach you on this podcast from experience tested, results driven tools, techniques and strategies that that work that'll help you live a thriving life, have better relationships, be much happier, and make a whole heck of a lot of money. Okay, now on this podcast episode, I'm going to talk about the tools that you need to be a successful course creator and coach. Now, bear with me, I have a little bit of a cold, got a stuffy nose, so. But I still wanted to show up and record this podcast episode for you guys because I had to share this with you. One of the biggest things that people ask me is, Jeremiah, like, what do I need to do to be successful as a course creator and as a coach? And if you haven't heard my story before, you know I've been in this industry for over 19 years. I got my start by making courses that were on DVDs and CDs for a lady named Danny Johnson@dannyjohnson.com and did a lot of the marketing, a lot of the sales videos, even some of the funnels and copywriting back then, and worked with a guy named Tom Challen and made his funnels. And that's how I got my start 19 years ago doing media funnels and marketing for these people that were sales trainers that were making courses and doing coaching in that industry. And so I learned firsthand from them how to do that. Now, if I only had experience from 19 years ago, I would not recommend that you listen to me. If somebody says they have experience from a long time ago and that's all they've had experience doing, they're not really worth their salt. But I've actually been committing my entire career since that time, every single day for the last 19 years, to helping course creators, coaches, trainers, authors, and consultants grow and get more customers. How do we get new business in? So we often work with people that they're already expert coaches or expert course creators. And how do we help them get a ton of people that they can help? Now, that doesn't mean that we don't work with people that are just getting started. In fact, that's what we help the most amount of people with through this podcast, is people that are just getting started, all the way up to those that are successful. And making tens of millions of dollars. And so if you're somebody that wants to know, what are the right tools, how can I gain some traction, my business as a course creator, as a coach, how can I be set up for success? What's working right now? What's working right now with our clients that are bringing in over $900,000 monthly? Yeah, that's just under a million dollars a month in sales in coaching and courses. We have a client, Rick, that's doing that. What's working with other clients of ours, like Georgian, helping them bring in thousands of masterclass students. You know, some of you have followed me. I worked with my mom for years. What worked when I was working with her, what's working now to bring in thousands of customers for coaching and courses. And what tools do you need to set yourself up for success? That's what we're going to talk about. I'm going to walk you through all the tools that you need, that you need to start utilizing and using so that you can be confident knowing that you're setting yourself up in the right direction. Now, I'm going to start with an unconventional tool, and if you followed me for any length of time, my training builds upon itself. If this is your first time listening to me, don't log off when I tell you this next section because you're like, oh, man, I thought he was going to get into the deeper stuff. I will in a few minutes. But I have to set the right foundation. Patience, consistency, following the process and going through a plan is important to successfully building a business. So is imperfect action. Not being afraid of doing things wrong, making mistakes, making big messes, testing things out. Even if failure is a certainty, it's an important framework. And so in that you have to work on your mindset, your brain, the way that your thinking works. Our brains are programmed to go opposite against the way that actually successfully builds a business. And our brains in this business is the number one tool that we have. What's cool is the brain is programmable, so you can reprogram your brain with podcast episodes, with training, with personal development books, with coaches, with mentors. My podcast is a resource for you that you can use to reprogram your brain to be more successful as a course creator and as a coach. Over 159 episodes at the time of this recording on the Grow youw Life podcast that you can go through absolutely free on any podcast app, I would not recommend that you start at the beginning, episode number one. In fact, I would go backwards if anything, and I would start with the more recent episodes because those are the ones that are dealing with more of what we're talking with a lot of our clients on today. They're not meant to be listened to in order. That's just the order that I recorded them in and the order that I recorded them and has nothing to do with an actual successful process. Okay? So understand that. Start reading more books. Start disciplining yourself to work on what frameworks have you been taught? Were you raised with what hasn't been working?
What.
What fear, what worry do you have? See, I meet a lot of people. They tell me for the last five years they're going to be successful. They post on their social media, I'm wealthy and excellent, and yet they. They don't even have money to invest a dollar into a. Into a training program or, or $5 or, or to even build their website or to even have the discipline to record any content or any discipline to even put anything out there. And then they complain, whine, bitch, and moan that nothing works for them. Well, that's their own fault. Personal responsibility is the true framework of success in business. You're going to have to take personal responsibility. You're going to have to be more disciplined to do what you don't feel like doing on a regular basis. And that's one of the biggest mental frameworks that you can work through. Figure out why those things are so difficult for you. Why are you afraid of making a mistake so often and looking perfect to everybody so often? Or maybe you're not struggling with that. Why are you so impatient? Why are you so worried about money and making money? Those will prevent you from being successful as a business owner. And so we have to upgrade our mindset about money, about relationships, about taking action. We can't let perfectionism stop us. We can't let what's going on around us the chaos of the world. We can't live in the Disneyland fantasy that everything is gonna someday be a fairytale level of perfection. And then once that someday arrives, then we can finally start taking action. And yet I see hundreds of people, they listen to this very podcast. I've talked to them for the last six years. They might even be listening to this episode. And they haven't done a single thing with anything that they've been taught at all. And they always have a good excuse for why not. My friends, kill your excuses. That's what's stopping you from being successful. If you always have a reason why you can't, well, then you've created that Life. That's the life you'll always have.
And.
You'Ve chosen that life. So if you want something different, you're gonna have to choose something different. And that requires you to take action. And so there's some great books that you can read through on these different topics. Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink is a really good book on this topic. How to do the Work by Nicole Lepra is another really great book. My friends, we can't let the fear and worry of what other people think about us and pleasing everybody around us stop us from building our business. As a course creator, as a coach, as a trainer, as an author, you are going to upset people. You could do 100% of everything perfect to the T of the absolute perfection, and you will have people that hate your guts, and that's part of it. And so accepting that, developing some thicker skin, if that's hard for you, heal from some of the pain and trauma from your past of how other people mistreated you so that you don't, then project that fear and worry into every single business situation that you encounter will help take you to the next level, my friends. Okay, now, I know by sharing just all of that, I know that I just, statistically, I probably lost about at least 60% of every listener of this podcast. That's just. It's just too hard for people to even come face to face with what I just shared. And so if you're still listening to this, hey, I want to commend you. You, you have what it takes to be successful. You, you stuck it out for 10 minutes listening to me here with a nasally nose talking about the mindset framework. Now, what are some of the important tools? The truth is, writing is the core element of coaching. Training, consulting, coaching, and. Right. And being an author. Right. Writing is the core element. And so whether you're writing a script for an ad, whether you're writing the text for an ad, whether you're writing a blog post, an email, whether you're writing a marketing campaign, even when you're teaching the way that I teach, it's sort of a. A verbal form of the written word. And it goes through a framework of what has worked with other people in the past. And so getting certain tools to help you with your writing are going to be very important. One of the number one tools that I recommend that everybody gets, if you're a course creator, if you're a coach, and please don't let your pride stop you from getting this. Unfortunately, I had a few people last week tell me that it's dishonest, disingenuous, and just plain wrong to use the tool that I'm going to show you next. And it's called Jasper. It's an artificial intelligence writing application. The future of writing artificial intelligence makes it fast and easy to create content for your blog, social media website. So we. I use this as a tool, almost like an. Like a junior writer, to come up with ideas. And I can actually hire somebody at a very low cost to come up with at least a few ideas for me that. That can help jog my memory when writing stuff so I don't have to work as hard. I don't have to sit there. Since I purchased Jasper over a year ago, I have not experienced a moment of writer's block. Now, I don't use it to write everything like it comes up with every single word that I say, but it does come up with the perspective for me and the framework. And I do use it a lot for my blog posts and my social media content because those are what I consider the lowest priority on my list of quality. When I do my podcast, it's more of my highest level. So none of this is scripted, but I did use Jasper. What I actually did, I'm going to show you. I actually entered in a list of some of my top podcast episodes. So you can see this Word document here. I went through and analyzed over 158 episodes. Oh, these are the top top 30 episodes that I have. And go through and check some of these out as well. These are going to help you. And then I entered some of these in these top 30 episodes into Jasper. And basically we came up with, I need to talk with you about the right tools that you need to succeed. And so this actually helped me come up with the name of this podcast episode. Okay, so I use this artificial intelligence app and it. And it literally writes content with AI. It just, it generates the content based on what you feed it for a number of different things. So we've used it to write blog posts, outlines, marketing campaigns, landing pages, all of that. I highly recommend it. You can get a trial of it by clicking the free trial link in the description of this post. And here's the deal is not using Jasper, I would consider to be the equivalent of not using a calculator. If you're an accountant, I would consider it to be the equivalent of not using a hammer. If you're a construction worker building houses, I would consider it the equivalent of not using batteries. If you drive an electric car. Like it's it's just at this point, it's this tool that just makes you a thousand percent better. And if you're not an expert writer already, it can get you that much closer to doing so so that you can focus on what you're really good at.
Okay?
It'll help you create outlines for your programs. It'll help you create outlines for your courses with AI. Now, one of the next most important tools is Google Docs. So Google Docs is what I use to map out every single course that I create. Every single email, every single blog post starts with a Google Doc.
Okay?
And so what I'll do is I will map it out what the bullet points that I'm going to teach are.
Okay?
So if I find one here, let's see. I don't think I have one exactly yet, but let me try to find this course outline. Here we go. Offer course outline. So what I'll do is I will start with this is what I want to teach in my course. And I will just create an outline of what my lessons are. And then I start to rearrange them into lessons. So these are just bullet points of what I want to make sure that I teach. They're not in any particular order. And then I start arranging them in the order of the lessons. But I only do lesson one. A lot of times. I see people, they want it. They want to make sure they have lessons 5, 6, 7 and 8 through 10 to 14, and all the final lessons and all these lessons, all this stuff figured out beforehand. And yet what's helped me is I just do lesson one. I record lesson one, and then I map out lesson two, and I just map out the next lesson. Don't let the fear, worry and need for perfectionism keep you from doing this. And then you don't have a course done for. For two years, my friends, you should have your courses done in less than 30 days. That's what I walk you through in my course. Easy Course creation Blueprint is how to do that. Okay, so you mapping it out is the first step. Then you press record. You can record it with your phone. You can record it with a tool called obs. That's what I use to record my podcast episodes and courses. Lets me do screen sharing. And then you can edit it in either imovie. You can use Capwing. Capwing lets you edit video content. You can use DaVinci Resolve, which is free professional video editing software, to edit your courses. The free version is incredible. I don't even use the paid one Myself, because the free one actually has all the features I need.
Okay.
So they've actually edited these movies with it with DaVinci resolve. And I use it for all my courses. I love it.
Okay.
And so those are the tools as far as how do you create the course now, how do you launch it? Thinkific.com Thinkific.com is the tool that I use to deliver my courses and my coaching because it's the most cost effective. I have a website that's on Squarespace which is also cost effective. And they have members areas on here too. You could even just use Squarespace. I have a course called Website building made Easy where I walk you through building a Squarespace website. And so then we're able to host our courses and our coaching programs on these platforms and we're able to then deliver the recordings to people in a members area that they can log into to access them. Then you want to use some kind of a community management tool. So right now we still use Facebook groups. I find that Facebook groups are really working well. I still don't see any reason why not to. Unless you're using content that is getting banned by Facebook. Not that you're afraid that's going to get banned, but that is actually getting banned. I think it's so stupid that people don't post something online because they're afraid of Facebook banning them. Instead, show up, share your content, stop being afraid, stop letting the fear of what might happen run your life and build your business.
Okay?
And so we use this. We have the grow your life community. It's a free community. This is my priority support community for, for paid customers and clients.
Okay?
And so, my friends, that's what you can use for community building. Now there are other tools you can use Circle. So it sort of replaces Facebook groups as a, as a. As a. It's a more expensive tool. Facebook groups obviously are free, so it does the same thing as a Facebook group, but you, you're more in control of the platform and it's on a separate app. And so if you're worried about getting banned or shut down, you can use this. You can also build a community with, with Discord. Okay, so Discord allows you to build a club, a group and a community. So Discord is another great platform for building communities. Actually might be launching a Discord channel here soon with some of my group members as we grow things. Okay. So that's really the framework of the tools that you need. Email marketing, mailchimp. I use mailchimp to this day. You can Also use one called Klaviyo. It's another email marketing software for called Klaviyo.
Okay.
But I recommend, I like mailchimp. I find it easy to use. And then for scheduling I use calendly.com okay, so calendly.com is what people can schedule coaching with me with. And so if you head on over to my website, you can actually sort of reverse engineer some of this by going to Jeremiah Krakowski.com we have the Community on Facebook podcast which is hosted on Squarespace. Squarespace distributes it to all these platforms. We have my courses, I have a bundle of courses here with all the courses for two Grand Irresistible offer social media ads. And so when you go to a course, this is in Squarespace, this page tells you about it. You're also going to want to have case studies that validate you to your customers, that validate that you know what you're talking about, that validate that you know what you're doing. People saying nice things about you, people saying nice things about what they learned from you and so on.
Okay?
And so then when they click get started. Oh, by the way, I use a 30 day money back guarantee because I think that that takes a lot of the risk out of it for people. I hardly ever have anybody take me up on the money back guarantee because they like the courses that much. So when somebody goes to register, it's right here, this goes to thinkific and this is my thinkific page. It just goes through a button. It's literally it's just a button in Squarespace. Jeremiah Krakowski.com in Squarespace. The buttons right here, this goes to a checkout link in thinkific and then this lets you purchase and then somebody can log in at my thinkific site to access it.
Okay?
And then for my coaching. So that's my courses. You can bundle courses, do whatever charge monthly. You can even do a subscription, a monthly subscription, a recurring subscription for a coaching program through Thinkific. Then we have my one on one coaching.
Okay?
And so that's $7,500 for six months, 12 sessions or six payments of 1250. And so this actually takes you over to Thinkific to register for the payment plan for six months. Okay, this takes you over to, this goes straight through Squarespace right here, the Squarespace checkout for 7, 500 bucks. And that's all, all built into Squarespace. And so my friends, like those are the tools that you need. Now are you gonna have to learn how you know, what do you call your program, your marketing, your offers yes, that's what I cover in my courses. That's what I cover in social media ads at work. How do we run the ads? You're going to want to run ads to find new customers. You're going to want to create social media content. You're going to want to start with at least Instagram Reels and TikTok videos minimum on your social media. And don't spend longer than five minutes a day coming up with that content either. Or you're wasting your time overthinking and over talking yourself out of what you should actually be doing. You really are. And so the courses at my website walk you through that. There's a number of podcast episodes that are going to walk you through a number of those different topics as well that will help you. As well as my YouTube channel, there's the 159 episodes of the podcast on there. There's also 962 videos on YouTube. You can type in my name and go through these different videos. You can type in a specific topic. Coaching programs. Last week we just did one successful coaching program, Blueprint.
Okay.
And so, and then we talk about mindset, time management, all this stuff that you need, a course creator as a coach, as a consultant, as a leader, as an author to successfully build a business online. We talk about that on my YouTube videos. These close to a thousand videos for free on YouTube. So my friends, listen, if you're wanting to build a business as a course creator, as a coach, as a trainer, as an author, you have no excuse of saying I don't know what to do because there's. I have created over a thousand videos that you can go through that you can look up that you can discover on any topic that you're wondering. Well, you know, Jeremiah, I'm wondering about, I'm wondering about this mindset stuff that you're talking about.
Great.
Type in mindset. I'm wondering about what you're, what you're talking about. About, you know, memberships, you know, okay, building a membership program. I'm wondering what you're talking about about subscription based programs.
Okay.
Maybe I'll have to make a video about that. Basically, subscriptions is the same as memberships. Subscriptions and memberships are the same thing. They pay monthly for that. Okay, coaching programs, how to build a coaching program. Courses, how to create successful courses that sell. All of that is available here as well as at the podcast on my website. So listen, if you're stuck, if you're somebody that wants to know, how do I get more Customers.
