Jeremiah Tipton explains that spiritual growth means becoming more sensitive to sin. Behaviors and words that once felt neutral now grieve your heart. This mourning over your own brokenness is not rejection from God, but a sign you're surrendering more of yourself to Him.
Chapters
The closer you get to Jesus, the more sensitive you become to the darkness of sin. The more you surrender to God, the more you allow him to develop your character, the more sensitive you become to wrongdoing. Whereas maybe you used to do certain things, go certain places, say certain phrases, use certain words, but now that you're drawing closer to God through surrender, now that you're yielding more of yourself to him, those things grieve your heart. This is why I say that often this mourning over sin isn't a sign that God is rejecting you or putting you you at a distance. Rather, this mourning over your brokenness is a sign that you are indeed surrendering more of yourself to him.
