There was a father who was teaching his daughter to pray, and so he created a bedtime routine for her. And each night he would pray, modeling for her how to pray to God. Finally, he says, now I want you to begin doing this on your own. So the next night, he tucks his daughter into bed, he leaves the room, leans over, cups his ear against the door to listen to his daughter's bedtime prayers. And she begins to sing the alphabet, A, B, C, D, E, F, G. He laughed to himself, moved on. But the same thing happened the second night, and then the third night. And finally, the father says to himself, I can't have her just thinking that ABCs is how we pray. So he goes in one night and he tells her, listen, I've been hearing you pray the ABCs, but you know, when we talk to God, we actually have to address him. And the little girl responded, Dad, I am praying to God. I'm just giving him the letters and I'm allowing him to arrange the prayers however he desires.
