A sermon on Philippians 4:6-7 argues that worry is a powerless counterfeit of prayer. Real prayer means asking God for what you need and thanking Him, which aligns you with divine guidance. God promises His peace will guard your heart and mind when you pray instead of worry.

You can either worry or pray. You can't do both. And some of us think we're praying when we're just worrying in front of God. Worry is the flesh's powerless counterfeit for prayer. Worry is a useless attempt at control because we imagine that if I could just focus on it, think about it, obsess about it, see it from every angle, expect it before it gets here, that in so doing I now have control over this thing. No, it is a false sense of control. You don't actually have any control over it. The scripture tells us, don't worry about anything. Instead, pray about about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Look what happens. Verse 7: Then you will experience the peace of God, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ.
