When I was a boy, there was a game I'd play with my friends, the trust fall game. Trust fall. It was simple. Fall backwards without catching yourself and trust that your friend would catch you. Paul the Apostle wrote, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord. It was the power of the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. There was a moment when the Son of God did what no one had ever done before. He trusted the Holy Spirit through death itself. Jesus took a trust fall into the grave, believing the Holy Spirit would catch Him. And in that instance, it was no game. The stakes were eternal. That's trust. That's reliance. Jesus trusted the Holy Spirit in death. So why do we hesitate to obey Him when the Spirit simply tells us to witness to someone? To give, to pray, to use a spiritual gift. If Jesus could trust the Holy Spirit in the darkness of death, you can trust Him in the uncertainty of life. He's never failed you, and He never will. Take the trust fall. The Holy Spirit will always catch you. To learn more about the Holy Spirit, get Holy Spirit: God Within You at encounterthespirit.com.
