Do This Every Day and You’ll Always Hear God Clearly

David Hernandez teaches five daily habits to hear God's voice clearly: cultivate gratitude, practice rapid forgiveness, trust God to speak rather than striving, demolish mental strongholds, and prioritize Scripture reading and prayer. He emphasizes that hearing the Holy Spirit is a guaranteed privilege for all believers, not an elite few.

You will always hear God clearly if you practice these things every day. It's time to walk in peace and confidence as you enter this new season. You don't have to struggle wondering, are these just my thoughts? Are those just my emotions? Or is this God speaking to me? You can know with certainty every day that you walk this earth that God is speaking to you And I wanna show you how to do that. It's time to turn up the volume on God's voice, and it's time to turn down the volume on the things of this earth. Now, as a believer, the voice of the Holy Spirit in your life is gonna be your greatest advantage. The Holy Spirit can see the future. He can see the minds and the motives of others. He can see things in conversations taking place that you can't see. And he communicates to you on a daily basis, moment by moment, guiding your every step. Just as Jesus walked as a perfect reflection of the Father, so you can walk as a reflection of Jesus. This is the advantage of knowing the voice of the Holy Spirit. Let me tell you this. You are not going to miss his voice. You are not going to miss his instruction. You are not going to miss his calling. The Holy Spirit knows how to get through to you. There's no such thing as an elite group of Christians, because sometimes we imagine that the voice of the Holy Spirit is a reward for those super Christians, for those Christians who have it all together, for the ones who seem to be walking perfectly before the Lord. No, my friend, the voice of the Holy Spirit is for every believer. It's for you and I too, to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, not just the elite Christians. In fact, Jesus said in John chapter 10, verses 27 and 28, my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto you— unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. Here we see that there's a certainty to the voice of the Holy Spirit. There's a security to your relationship with the Holy Spirit. And so because you belong to him, because you are a sheep, you already hear his voice. As I said just a moment ago, it's a simple matter of turning up the voice of the Holy Spirit and lowering the volume on the things of this earth. So here's what you can do to begin to hear his voice with confidence. every single day in this new season. Number 1, be thankful. Now you might be asking, how does gratitude enable me to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit with a greater measure of clarity? Well, gratitude lowers the volume of ambition and jealousy, which clutters the mind. Sometimes we take action, sometimes we have desires, that are born out of jealousy. They're born out of ungodly ambition. Now there's nothing wrong with being driven or having goals or desiring to build certain things, but the problem occurs when we begin to follow after the voice of jealousy and ambition rather than the voice of the Holy Spirit. You see, if we practice godly gratitude, then we're not going to be pushed by jealousy. We're not going to be forced by ambition. Remember that the Holy Spirit leads, he doesn't push. The voice of the Holy Spirit is not pushy. He is persistent, he is assertive, he is firm, but there's no fear behind that instruction. There may be reverence, but there's not this, this ungodly fear. There's not this ungodly tension that comes about as a result of ambition and jealousy. Amen. You see what others have and you want it. You see what others are accomplishing and you too want to accomplish it. It's one thing to be inspired. It's another thing to be made jealous. And when we don't live in gratitude, we live with this rushed pace of life. Here's what the Scripture says. Hebrews 13:5, don't love money. Be satisfied with what you have, for God has said, I will never fail you. I will never abandon you. In other words, be satisfied because you have the presence of God. Psalm 100:4, enter his gates with thanksgiving, go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. Hebrews 12:28, since we are receiving a kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear, and awe. Psalm 107:1, give thanks to the Lord. Why? For he is good. It's because of who he is. His faithful love endures forever. Philippians 4:6, don't worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Gratitude brings rest. Gratitude brings confidence. And that rest and confidence ultimately brings you to a place where you're able to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit without the clutter of jealousy and ambition. Far too many Christians are putting off their joy. They're putting off their gratitude because they're waiting until they reach that ideal situation off in the distance. When I finally get the job, when I finally get married, when I finally have a kid, when I finally settle my finances, when I finally pay off the debt, when I finally graduate, when I finally get that degree. Then I'll be thankful, then I can rest, then I'll have gratitude. But we as believers ought to be thankful now. And in being thankful now, we experience that peace, we experience the lessening of the volume on jealousy and ambition, and we can now hear the voice of the Holy Spirit with more clarity, not having the mind cluttered with jealous and ambitious thoughts. Number 2, Forgive others. Mark 11:25 says, but when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins too. Unforgiveness blocks the flow of divine forgiveness. We're not able to receive of that forgiveness. Now, I understand that as believers, we are positioned in justification. Positionally, we are justified. Legally, the penalty has been paid. But if you want to experience the joy of that forgiveness, the life of that forgiveness, the benefits of that forgiveness in this lifetime, then you're going to have to unblock that flow of divine forgiveness. Because unforgiveness disrupts your connection with the Lord. I'm not saying it severs it, Because the Holy Spirit doesn't abandon you just because you make a mistake. What I am saying is that it's difficult to receive the benefits from that relationship and that connection if you're walking in unforgiveness. It's like having a bank balance. The bank balance is in your name. The bank balance can be accessed by your identity. The bank balance stays the same even if you lose your debit card. You just have to rediscover that connection with the account. You didn't lose the account itself. Unforgiveness, hardens the heart and clutters the mind. People who struggle with unforgiveness, they have hard hearts. They're difficult to deal with. They're easily offended. They're constantly seeing through the lens of offense. Anything and everything is perceived as an attack. And when they live in this combative way, they drown out their ability to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. As I said, unforgiveness becomes that lens through which you see and experience everything. It's very difficult to listen to the discernment that comes by the Holy Spirit when your mind is cluttered with the thoughts of what others might be thinking of you, when you're obsessing over some wrong that was done against you, when you're constantly replaying again and again something that you suffered at the hands of another. I'm not saying that what they did was right. I'm not saying that they're deserving of forgiveness. What I am saying is that we as Christians are called to forgive as the Lord forgave us. Ephesians 4:32 says this, instead be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Now this is something that culture does not understand. You see, culture seeks after revenge. Culture seeks after getting even. And culture has difficulty letting things go. And in fact, people feel justified in their unforgiveness because of the mentality of culture today. Yet we are told to forgive as the Lord forgives us. Imagine that. We are to forgive like Jesus forgave. Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. Can you imagine what it would be like if we as Christians forgave others in our own way? Can you imagine how the Christian life would be if God forgave us the way we forgive others? Think about that. What if Jesus forgave you the way you forgive others, and Jesus told you, "I forgive your sin, but I'll never forget it." I forgive what you did, but I'm gonna hold it over your head the rest of your life. Or what if He said, "I forgive you of your sins, but you still have to suffer the consequences of those sins in hell." Well, what does the Scripture say? It says He does not punish us according to all our sins. Instead, He forgives. He makes right. Now, I understand there's a time he chastises us to correct us and restore us, but this is after the stubborn resistance of repentance. But we are called to forgive as Christ has forgiven. And when you practice forgiveness, forgiving faster than they can apologize— many of us withhold and we feel justified. Well, they haven't said sorry yet, or they haven't approached me yet, they haven't bowed before me and kissed the ring yet, they, they need to humble them. That's That's ego. And I know that many will be offended at me saying this, but I love you too much to not tell you the truth. You gotta let it go. There's nothing you can hold onto that you are justified in holding onto. There's nothing that you're holding unforgiveness against someone for that you're justified in doing so. Why? Because he's forgiven us of a greater debt. Now, the next point I wanna give you is going to seem like somewhat of a contradiction, but I want you to pay close attention to How this is a little bit nuanced. First, if you're enjoying this message, it's blessing you, it's challenging you, make sure to leave a like because by leaving a like on the stream, you're helping to spread this to more people. Make sure you don't miss a thing from this channel by subscribing now and clicking that notification bell when When you do subscribe. Now, as I said, this may seem like a contradiction. Number 3, trust God to speak. Now, the reason this might seem like a contradiction is because I'm giving you keys now on how to hear God clearly every single day in this next season that you're coming into, with confidence, by the way. Yet what I'm about to say may sound like I'm telling you that you don't need to try at all. But remember, there's that balance in partnership with God. He does the impossible while we do the practical. We obey and God moves on our behalf. He doesn't need us to do that, but that's how he's chosen to do so. So I want you to be released from the tension of thinking that it's all about your ability to hear God. That's number 3. As I said, trust God to speak. I talk to so many Christians who maybe they have a strange dream. And they just can't let that dream go in terms of what God might have been saying through that dream. And they're even tormented by that. They may even say things like, well, I got a word from a prophet and it didn't make sense at the time, and I'm just struggling to try to figure out what that meant. And people obsess over dreams and visions and prophetic words. Or maybe they had a thought or an emotion go through their mind and they, they're not sure, was that God? Was that just me? Was that the Lord or was that my emotions? And they become so obsessed over the idea that they might be missing God. Maybe I'm talking to you, so obsessed, so fearful about the idea that you might be missing God that it creates this tension, this lack of peace, this angst, this, this, this, this, even this anger that may come about, this frustration that comes about, all because we think that hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit entirely depends upon us. Yes, it's good to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit. Yes, it's good to seek after the face of God. There's nothing wrong with that. These keys that I'm giving you, as I said, are keys that you can apply today that will help you to do that. But when all is said and done, we have to remember that it does not depend upon us. We can trust God knows how to get through to us. I'm gonna say that again so that you can get it in your spirit. God knows how to get through to you. God knows how to get a word to you. He knows how to communicate a truth to you, and he's going to do so by his ability. Think of Jonah. He was running from God. God still put him on the right course. Pharaoh hardened his heart. God still spoke to him. Look at Saul. Watch this now. Acts 9, beginning at verse 1. Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord's followers. So he went to the high priest. He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. By the way, the Way, that was the name of the movement of Christianity. He wanted to bring them, both men and women, back to Jerusalem in chains. As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? Verse 5, who are you, Lord? I love that Saul doesn't know him, yet recognizes the authority enough to call him Lord. Who are you, Lord? Saul asked. And the voice replied, I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting. So Saul was on his way to persecute Christians. He wasn't trying to listen for Jesus, yet Jesus spoke to him. So trust and obey. You will not miss him. You cannot miss him. Why? Because it depends on him. Trust not in your ability to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Trust in the Holy Spirit's ability to get through to you. He's gracious. And then, of course, you're accountable for what you know. Seek the voice of God, seek the face of God, seek the presence of God, yes. But do not get caught up in tension and frustration that comes about as a result of you thinking that it depends on you. Because then it becomes even more difficult to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Number 4, ground your thoughts. By grounding your thoughts, you are grounding your emotions. And by grounding your emotions, you are clearing the clutter of self. Think about this. Your thoughts eventually become feelings and actions. There's actually a progression to this. Your thoughts become feelings and actions. Those thought patterns, that way of thinking, that way of processing information becomes a way of feeling and acting. Those feelings and actions lead to habits. Those habits are ultimately what form your lifestyle And this is what creates ultimately your destiny, because as you live from those thought patterns, everything about you is affected. Watch this now in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. We are human, but we don't wage war as humans do. We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. Now, here, Paul the Apostle is defending his apostolic authority against individuals who were trying to challenge that authority and trying to get the church to challenge that authority. So Paul writes back and he combats these lies, he combats these deceptions by describing them as strongholds. And this is where the concept of strongholds comes from, biblically speaking. These thought patterns become like strongholds in the mind. They become places of influence. And so we have to tear them down. We tear them down. We cast down those imaginations. Why? Because they're exalting themselves against the knowledge of God. They're contradicting the truth. And in so doing, you experience perfect liberty, liberty to hear God, freedom to hear his voice. You become free from the clutter around you, and now you can focus on him. Philippians 4:8 says, and now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing: fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right and pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent, and worthy of praise. Colossians 3:1-2 say this: Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. So here we are being told that we ought to think a certain way. We are being commanded to function in a certain thought pattern. You are being told to choose your thoughts. You choose what you think. You choose where your mind goes. You choose how you behave ultimately, because ultimately you are in charge of your thoughts. Now, I know that if you struggle with things like OCD or intrusive thoughts, that it may feel like you can't control your thoughts, but that's a lie of the enemy. You absolutely can. control your thoughts. You are in complete control of what goes on in your mind. Thoughts are the actions of your mind. You can choose them. Romans 8:5-6, those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death, But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. You choose what you think. A mind filled with ungodly thoughts has trouble focusing on God. A mind filled with godly thoughts can focus on the voice of the Holy Spirit. Finally, number 5, prioritize Christian devotions. Ground yourself in the Word. Ground yourself in the foundation of God speaking to you through the Scriptures. In Matthew chapter 4, verses 3 and 4, we read, during that time the devil came and said to him, if you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread. But Jesus told him, no, the Scriptures say people do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Jesus here affirms the truth that we are sustained daily by the word. Colossians 3:16 says, let the message about Christ in all its richness fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. We need to be in prayer daily. In Colossians 4:2, we read, Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, never stop praying. John 5:19 tells us, so Jesus explained, I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. So we see here that Jesus, though he was God, chose to demonstrate that reliance upon the Father, and Jesus had a lifestyle of prayer. In Matthew 14:23, after sending them home, he went up to the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. In Matthew chapter 6, verses 5 and 6, Jesus instructs, when you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. Mark 1:35, we see another demonstration of Jesus's prayer life. Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray. Mark 6:46-47 say this. After telling everyone goodbye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. Luke 5:16 tells us, but Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. You have to devote yourself to the Word and prayer daily if you are serious about hearing God in this next season of your life. And you've got to commit in this next season to daily prayer and the Word. Don't compromise in this area. And so by applying these different truths that I gave to you— being thankful, forgiving others, trusting God to speak, grounding your thoughts, and being devoted to spiritual disciplines— you will find that in this next season you will not miss the voice of God. You will not miss your destiny. You are going to walk by faith. You You are going to make it. You are going to become who God has called you to be. You will be a Christian who hears the voice of the Holy Spirit with confidence and clarity. I'm describing you if you will simply apply these truths. And by the way, you can begin to apply these immediately. Father, I pray you help them to do it. Touch their lives afresh. Amen. Let them be people of devoted prayer. Let them be people of persistent prayer. Let them be people of passionate prayer, that they might be grounded in the Word too, that they might fulfill every spiritual discipline. Teach us, Father, to be thankful. Teach us to forgive. Teach us to trust you. Teach us to master our thoughts by your Holy Spirit. I pray we lend our ears to you.
