Low confidence shows up as avoiding eye contact, obsessing over others' opinions, and feeling invisible in groups. True confidence comes from grounding your identity in Christ and believing that God knows, loves, protects, and accepts you unconditionally.

These are signs of a lack of confidence. You can't look people in the eye when you're talking to them. You're constantly worried about what others are thinking of you, maybe in group settings at church, at family gatherings, and you feel like you're contributing nothing. That's insecurity. Or maybe when you meet someone, you feel like you have to puff yourself up because you're a little bit intimidated by how confident that they are. And this is why it's important that you learn to ground your identity in Christ. If God knows you and loves you and protects you and backs you, what does it matter what anyone else does? If God approves of you, who cares who disapproves? If God accepts you, who cares who rejects you? If God pays attention to you, who cares who ignores you? If God values you, who cares who overlooks you? When you place your confidence in God, when you ground yourself in your identity in him, confidence abounds.
