In this sermon excerpt, the speaker emphasizes that hearing God’s voice does not guarantee an obstacle‑free path. He explains that divine guidance may intentionally lead believers into a "wilderness"—a period of testing and processing similar to Jesus’ temptation in the desert. This wilderness is not meant to cause suffering but to strengthen character so that the person can fulfill the promises of God’s voice. The speaker cautions listeners not to equate resistance with being outside God’s will and encourages them to trust the process. He concludes by promoting the resource “Holy Spirit: God Within You” available at encounterthespirit.com for deeper learning about the Holy Spirit’s voice.

Chapters

Don't expect God's voice to remove all the obstacles. Just because there's some resistance doesn't mean that you're outside of the will of God. And sometimes we think that when the voice of God speaks, that that instruction is going to remove all obstacles. But often God will lead you into the wilderness. Think about how the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness where he was tempted. God will sometimes lead you into a wilderness, not for the purpose of torturing you or making you miserable, but for processing you. Because sometimes the will of God requires that you go through the wilderness. And in the wilderness, character is strengthened. And we become the people who can handle what the voice promised to us.
