A sermon on Achan's story shows how he thought his sin was hidden from God, but it wasn't. Secret wrongdoing seeps into everything you do, your speech and relationships, even when you don't see it yourself.
Chapters
Here's what we need to think about. Achan thought that his sin was hidden. He buried it deep where he thought it would never be uncovered. He thought there would be no consequence for what he had done. He thought that it wasn't going to affect anyone. Reality? It wasn't hidden. God saw it. God knew what was happening every step of the way. And the truth of the matter is, it wasn't worth it. Now, we understand that as New Testament believers, we don't hold to the idea that God punishes you directly for another person's sin. And that's true. God holds the individual accountable, not the group accountable. But that doesn't mean that your secret sin isn't causing an effect. Your secrets affect everything about you. They affect your demeanor, the way you talk, the way you come across, how you interact with your loved ones. Everything about you is affected by your secrets, whether you realize it or not.
