If you're serious about hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit, you'll be serious about the Word of God. The Word of God is the most reliable way in which God speaks to his children. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. The more familiar you become with the written word, the more familiar you'll become with the active voice of the Holy Spirit.
