How to Be So Anointed by God It Makes You Dangerous

In this sermon, the speaker explains that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is not a comfort but a dangerous power given to every believer. He outlines four main sections: (1) what the anointing is—a deposit of God’s power that fuels every spiritual gift; (2) the believer’s identity in Christ, emphasizing that the Spirit dwells in all who are adopted as children of God; (3) the necessity of yielding to the Holy Spirit, which requires a shift from begging for power to believing that the anointing is already possessed, and a daily “death to self” through surrender and obedience; and (4) the importance of remaining dependent on the Spirit to prevent pride, compromise, and loss of influence. The speaker warns that a truly anointed life is dangerous both to the kingdom of hell and to legalistic religious systems that try to suppress the Spirit. He provides practical, everyday examples of surrender (prayer over scrolling, forgiveness, truth‑telling, stepping out in faith) and illustrates the danger of drifting into self‑reliance with the story of Samson. The message concludes with a prayer for humility and dependence, followed by a call for listeners to financially support the ministry and to watch a follow‑up video that helps identify signs of being anointed.

There's an anointing that doesn't make your life more comfortable. It makes you dangerous. Dangerous to the kingdom of hell and dangerous to the dead religious thinking that keeps trying to stifle the Holy Spirit. Think about Acts 10:38, and you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the For God was with him. That is what the anointing is. It's simply the power of the Holy Spirit. And it didn't stop with Jesus. This is where many people get it backwards. I'm going to walk you through 4 things: what the anointing is and what it's for, who you already are in Christ, how to yield to the influence of the Holy Spirit even when it costs you, and how to stay dependent upon the Holy Spirit So that the anointing's influence in your life never starts to fade. And by the end, I don't want you chasing a feeling. I want you to examine your own life and stop confusing spiritual hunger with spiritual hype. Okay, so you watch your favorite preacher on YouTube or listen to them on a podcast, or maybe at church you watch different believers being used in their gifts, and there's this yearning in your heart. God, I want you to use my life. God, I don't want my gifts to go to waste. And so you look to others as inspiration while also discounting yourself. But think about this: the anointing of the Holy Spirit is simply the power of God. The power of God to preach the gospel, the power of God to pray for the sick, the power of God to flow in your spiritual gift. The anointing is like the fuel, and your set of gifts, your calling, is like a vehicle. There are many different vehicles that serve many different purposes. But it's the same anointing that fuels every single one. So it's not about being called to this special group or getting inside of this spiritual club. God has anointed you. The Holy Spirit already dwells within you. Romans 8:11 says the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, meaning there is no lack in power. All the power of the Holy Spirit dwells in you. The person of the Holy Spirit, fully committed, fully in. He's not holding back from you. And so you must begin to recognize that this is not something that you have to acquire. The anointing is something that has been deposited in every single believer, and that anointing makes you dangerous. Now, why do I say it makes you dangerous? Because when you begin to recognize the influence of the Holy Spirit, When you begin to surrender to his voice and you begin to tap into what God has already placed in you. And yes, let me emphasize that, because even as I say that, you might be dismissing this in your mind. And that's part of the strategy of the enemy to say, well, it works for everyone else, just not for you. Or everyone else is going to find their calling, but you're just going to be stuck where you are forever. That is a lie of the enemy. I rebuke it in the name of Jesus. You will tap into this power. And when you begin to tap into that power, you become dangerous to the kingdom of hell. You begin to walk in such power that God uses you to snatch souls from the forces of darkness, that God begins to use you as an instrument of his glory, one who proclaims his truth to set the captives free, one who carries the gospel message, the saving of souls, the healing of the sick, the The delivering of the bound. This is what God has anointed you for. As a believer, you carry that power, and you're not just dangerous to the kingdom of darkness. As I said, you also become dangerous to dead religious systems that try to stifle the power of the Holy Spirit. You know, there are many believers who claim that they believe in the power of God. Really, they're okay with the power of God in theory, at least the idea of the Holy Spirit moving, But the moment that the Holy Spirit begins to move, they become hypercritical of what he's actually doing. And so as God begins to use you, as you begin to finally tap into that power that's been deposited in you, you become a threat to the status quo. You become a threat to the religious systems. They'll say you're weird, or they'll say you're too extreme. That's what the religious system does. It criticizes the power of the Holy Spirit. Think about the Pharisees. They criticized the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the life of Jesus, so that when he would cast out devils, they would criticize him, saying he's casting out devils by the power of Satan. They called the power of the Holy Spirit demonic. And so you begin to upset that system because you can't be controlled, because you're not going to be quiet, because there's a fire that burns in your heart and you know the truth. You've encountered the living God. And here's what makes it worse for the religious system. You want others to have that same encounter. And so the fire doesn't just stay in you, the fire begins to spread. And little by little, people come out of legalism. Little by little, people come out of the bondage of stifling the Holy Spirit, that religious thinking. People come out of the bondage of doubt and cynicism and skepticism and fear, and they begin to embrace the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit. God can use your life in that way. God wants to do it in your life and through your life. That is what it is to be dangerously anointed, a threat to the kingdom of hell and a threat to the religious system. Okay, so you've accepted the truth, the biblical fact that every believer has the anointing. So then why is it that some Christians are walking in that anointing while others seem to just go powerless from day to day? Well, it begins with your mindset. You have to come to understand who you are in Christ and who Christ is in you. Look at Romans chapter 8 beginning at verse number 15. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call them Abba Father, for his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. Listen to the language here. You have to allow yourself to believe what the Scripture says about your identity. And this is why many Christians get stuck. They beg God, they hype themselves up emotionally in prayer, and when they don't feel anything, they think that the power of God is lacking in their lives. Or, or they read the Scripture Just to fill a quota. And of course, you should read as much of the Scripture as you possibly can, but some Christians do it in a way where they think that if they read 30 chapters, then they're very anointed. If they read 100 chapters, then they're super anointed. But that's not the way this works. This begins in identity. This begins in the finished work of the cross. This begins in grace, not working for his power, but working from his power. He has already— Become one with you. Your spirit, his spirit merged. You are one. You walk in holy union. And so you have to make that shift from begging God for his power, begging God to anoint you, begging God to give you his Holy Spirit, and start thanking God that you are united with him. Start thanking him for the anointing. Thank you, Lord, for the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Thank you that you've given me the ability to proclaim your gospel truth. Thank you that you've given me what I need to minister to others and be a help to the church. Thank you, Lord, that you've equipped me with every spiritual gift necessary to fulfill the destiny that you've given to me. And once you make that shift, you go from begging to believing. And that is the key. Go from begging to believing. This is when everything begins to change, because when you don't believe that you have the anointing, you believe you have to work for the anointing. And when you believe you have to work for the anointing, you get stuck in repetition and system and this yearning that never is fulfilled. You get stuck in begging and trying in your own strength to become anointed. But when you recognize That because of what Jesus did on the cross, that when you put your faith in him, that you become a new creation filled with his Holy Spirit, then everything begins to change. You begin to relax in the truth. You begin to become settled in your identity. You see, that's the difference between confidence and arrogance. Arrogance is pretending to be confident when you're filled with insecurity. But confidence is that calm, foundational, grounded acceptance of who you are in Christ, who the Word says Christ is in you. And once you've grounded yourself in this way, now there's that divine confidence that comes upon you. And you, instead of pleading and seeking something you already have, you're thanking God for it. You're acknowledging the anointing in your life. And now begins faith. Not doubt, not begging and pleading, but faith. Okay, so now you're walking in divine confidence. What's next? It's very simple. It's one word, and it's something that's not often preached anymore. Here's the key. You want to walk in the influence of the anointing? You have to die. And by that, I don't mean literally physically die. I mean, you have to die to self. Now, sadly, there are some who are teaching that it's not necessary to die to yourself to walk in the anointing. But I think this comes from a misunderstanding of what it means to die to yourself. Look at Galatians 2:20. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave himself for me. Christ should shine through in your actions and in your attitudes and even in your thoughts. So when I talk about dying to self, I'm not saying that you need to be miserable for misery's sake. And there are really two extremes of this. There are some who teach that if you're not miserable, if you're not giving up every pleasure just for the sake of giving it up, to prove something to God, then that you're not truly anointed or not walking in your full potential. That's religion. That's extreme religious thinking. It's legalism wrapped in a false identity of spirituality. And then on the other side, there are those who say, well, Christ already died. He paid for it. And there's absolutely nothing you need to do. You just need to walk in that. Yes, that's true to some degree. Of course, we understand that Christ Finish the work. But there's still something to be said of obedience. There's still something to be said of yielding to the Holy Spirit. So avoiding both of those extremes, we must come to the place where we recognize that we must die daily. Now, when I say die daily, again, I don't mean quit your job just because you enjoy the pay too much, or get rid of that relationship just because you enjoy that relationship, or, or don't go on that family trip Because it's considered a pleasure of this world. That, that again is legalism. God wants you to enjoy blessings that he gives you in this life. When I talk about dying to self, I'm talking about those moments when God's will contradicts your will, and you have to choose always God's will. Dying to self can be resisting sin and temptation. That is a form of dying to self. But dying to self can also be as simple as God wants you to go there and you want to go over there. That is when you die to self. Nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done. And this is where the real power is. It's in surrender. It's in allowing the Holy Spirit to have influence in your life and replace your influence. I don't live here anymore. It's Christ in me. It's the Holy Spirit in me. And we're all works in progress. You're not going to be perfect in every decision, in every thought, in every attitude, but at least you're actively surrendering, yielding. And the greater the level of surrender, the greater the influence of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. So what does this look like, yielding? Well, it's as simple as choosing to pray even when you want to scroll through social media. It's as simple as making time for the word of God, even though you just want to rush through your day. It's as simple as forgiving that person who offended you, even when you want to hold that grudge. Telling the truth when you want to tell a lie. It's as simple as stepping out in faith and doing what God said to do, even when it feels safer to just settle where you are. Simple. Acts of obedience. It's not glamorous, it's not super deep, it's very simple. Surrender is not an emotion, it is obedience to God's word and the voice of the Holy Spirit. Okay, now the next key is staying dependent upon the Holy Spirit, because even genuine anointing can lose its influence, even genuine power can Fade as you become self-reliant. You become prideful, thinking it's you, thinking that because of who you are that God has anointed you, or imagining that you're some special person who's not going to experience consequences to compromise. Think about Samson. God had given to Samson supernatural physical strength. It was the power of the Holy Spirit upon him, yet he allowed compromise in his life. And as he compromised, the power of the Holy Spirit, that influence in his life faded, and he lost his supernatural strength. But here's the scary part. He didn't even realize that he had lost that influence. Look at Judges 16:20. Then she cried out, Samson, the Philistines have come to capture you. When he woke up, he thought, I will do as before and shake myself free. But he didn't realize the Lord had left him. So the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. And I think that physical act was reflective of his spiritual state, spiritual blindness. Now, we of course as New Testament Christians do not lose the Holy Spirit, but here we're seeing the loss of the influence of power because of compromise. Little by little, day by day, We become sometimes more and more self-reliant, and we forget about the secret place. We forget about the Holy Spirit. So the key here is keeping in your mind this truth: I need the Holy Spirit. One of my most common prayers is a simple one: Help me, Holy Spirit, I need you. And so we have to keep in our minds our weakness compared to his strength, that we are totally helpless without his power, that we depend upon him Daily. I recall one minister in particular who experienced something like this, and I could see it from afar. And I remember watching this person, and there was such a fire in them. There was such an anointing upon them. God was beginning a great work through their ministry. And as they began to experience growth, you could see the pride set in. And all of a sudden, their ministry took a turn. They began to religiously criticize other ministries. Now, the first time this happened, they experienced some backlash, and that, I believe, was God calling them to repentance. But there was no repentance. They just continued to criticize other ministers, not for things that were outright heresy or doctrinal errors or things that were dangerous, but because they were a little different. They didn't use the same methods as them. And so seeing themselves as the one or the way that God moved and viewing their ministry as the only pattern that God was using in the earth at the time, they began to criticize, filled with self-righteousness, ego. And they did it again and again and again, and they didn't even see how much influence they had lost. But it happens day by day, little by little, compromise by compromise. Listen, the anointing is given to you not for status but for service. God doesn't call us to stand out as better than our brothers and sisters, and we have to stay humble. We have to stay dependent upon the Holy Spirit. And so, Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus that you would help us to do it. Lord, teach us to walk in the anointing in a way that brings about transformation around us. Keep us dependent upon you, precious Holy Spirit. Remind us of our need for you, and don't let us drift into pride. Don't let us drift into compromise. May we daily surrender to you. And may we be confident not in our ability, but in what you accomplished. Keep us grounded in our identity in you. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Lord, I pray, use them, cause them to be spent for your glory, in the name of Jesus. And if you receive that, I want you to type amen right now. Now listen, I want to challenge you with something here. If this ministry has helped you in any way and you believe in what this ministry is doing through media events and church planting, then I want to invite you to be a part of our movement. The Holy Spirit is moving, and we need your help. We need your help as our ministry continues to grow and expand and reach more people. Will you consider today becoming a monthly ministry? supporter. And I know this, that as you step out in faith and begin to support the work of the Lord, that God will bless you for it. I believe it's God's will to prosper His people. And as you step out in faith, as you act upon the word of God, as you resist the flesh— because let's admit it, the flesh likes to fight these things, the flesh likes to hold in fear, and the flesh isn't always necessarily generous on its own— but you fight the flesh and say yes to the Holy Spirit. Will you do that today? Will you help me? Let's take the gospel to the ends of the earth. And let's win the soul of this generation. Now, a lot of you are watching this and the Holy Spirit is already stirring something. You're starting to wonder if he's been moving through you and you just don't have the words for it.
