You're struggling with spending time with the Holy Spirit every day. You're struggling with praying every day, and it just seems like you'll never get it right. You're tired, you're busy, you feel overwhelmed, you're stressed out. And even when you do pray, you find yourself skipping days or being distracted while you pray. I wanna show you how to make time for the Holy Spirit every single day and how to keep that up long-term. I'm giving you both practical and spiritual advice. So let's start with number one. This is a practical piece of advice. Number one, Master your mornings by getting control of your night routine. Many people just wake up in the morning, they go about their day without a plan. They just take the day as it comes instead of mastering the day from the start. But if you can take control of the morning, you've taken control of the rest of the day. So what's the key here? Though there are many different variables when it comes to taking control of your morning routine, One of the key things that I found really helped me and really helps a lot of the people who come to me for advice is to get control of your nighttime routine. Now, let me read to you Hebrews 12:11, where it says, no discipline is enjoyable while it's happening, it's painful, but afterwards there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Now, of course, we understand that this is talking about divine discipline, but the spiritual principle here is that discipline or correction, though painful in the moment, eventually yields powerful results. So in particular, getting control of your night routine. Maybe you stay up scrolling on social media or snacking or just aimlessly wandering throughout the day. I heard someone say that staying up late at night is like your claiming of the day because you felt like you had nothing for yourself during the day. So because you're so busy during the day, because you're so stressed during the day, it's basically your nighttime version's revenge on daytime version of self, because you're saying, I didn't get to really get anything out of the day that was enjoyable for me. I didn't really get any entertainment. I didn't really get anything that I felt was worth my time. I didn't get that dopamine hit. So you're aimlessly looking for it in the night. And what ends up happening is you say, one more video, or one more episode, or one more text, or I'll just have one more snack, or let me just kind of walk around the house here. Maybe there's a little project I can do over there. And basically, that is you trying to get back from the day what you didn't get during the day. And so instead of going through the night aimlessly, instead of just staying up looking for what's entertaining, looking for what fulfills that craving, just tell yourself, look, there's nothing more here for me at this point. And I need to get to bed because in the morning I have a schedule that I've planned. And it really does help doing this. So what I do, and again, this is a practical tip, in the night for the next day, I will lay out a schedule. I will know exactly what time What time I need to wake up, what time I will pray, what time I will take care of my health, what time I will have my breakfast, what time I'll have lunch. And then the whole day is planned by half hour, an hour, and even into 15-minute intervals, knowing how long it takes to even get from one place to the next. So you plan that whole day, and then what you do is you go to bed at a decent hour so that you could wake up for that first hour of the next day without having that mental fog. So now you can give the best of yourself with a game plan. You wake up and you say, okay, what's the first thing on the list? It should be prayer and the Word, that you do first. And then that sets up the pace. That's that first win for the day. And it begins to set you up for the rest of the day. But this allows you to be consistent in prayer because you're not just waking up going, okay, well, what, how much time do I have to get to work? Or how much time do I have to get ready for school? Or how much time until they're coming over? No, you wake up and you know, this is the block of time that I have with the precious Holy Spirit. And you can take your time with that, knowing that it's scheduled in there. Proverbs 21:5 says, good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. Without a plan, you will not succeed in consistency in prayer. Ephesians 5:15-17, so be careful how you live, Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don't, watch this, verse 17, don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Let me just be straight with you here. It's time to grow up. It's time to mature. It's time to step into who you are in Christ. It's time to take responsibility. for the life that God has given to you. Stop making excuses, stop blaming your job, stop blaming your school schedule, stop blaming the other people in your house. Take responsibility for the way you spend your time. Take responsibility for the way you set your schedule. Take responsibility for the way you handle your nighttime routine. And this is gonna help you to become consistent in prayer. Master that nighttime routine. Number 2, Pray even when you messed up or feel guilty. I can't tell you how many times I've talked to believers who skip another day of prayer because they felt guilty about the day of prayer they skipped the day before. In other words, they feel like because they skipped prayer on Tuesday, that now God's mad at them, and they have to wait to work up what they had with God before on Wednesday. Well, I skipped prayer on Monday and Tuesday. I don't really feel like going to church this Sunday. I don't really feel like going to prayer on Wednesday. I don't really feel like approaching God right now because I failed. I didn't pray. I didn't give myself over to the Lord the way I was supposed to. And now I don't even feel like I wanna look at him, right? There's like this shame in your heart. Well, this is to misunderstand what prayer is in the first place. You see, many believers will hesitate in their approach to God because they think they've lost favor with God. And many believers think they've lost favor with God because maybe they skipped a day of prayer. And this is the opposite of how we ought to think, because you need to remember this. You approach God, not because of your perfect prayer schedule. You can approach God, not because of how you performed throughout the week. You can approach God, not because you're a good Christian. Rather, you can approach God because of the finished work of the cross. Watch this now, 1 John 1:9, but if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. So maybe you skipped the day of prayer. Maybe you haven't read your Bible in a week or so, or maybe you fell into some sin last night or last week or a month ago, and you're just carrying this guilt and this shame. You're saying, I skipped prayer. I haven't read the word in a while, or I messed up. You know what the first thing you should do is when you mess up? Pray. Do you know what the first thing you should do when you miss a day of prayer? Pray. You know what you should do when you miss a week of reading the Bible? Open your Bible. It's the best thing you can do. And so we approach God boldly. Yeah, you may have messed up. Yeah, you may feel shame in your heart. Yeah, you may feel like you're not a really consistent Christian yet. And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices. And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven's most holy place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the most holy place. We enter by the blood. Not by our perfection. So think about it this way. If you feel so guilty when you mess up that you don't approach God when you pray, because you think that your sin or your skipped day of prayer, or your inconsistency of the word keeps you out of his presence, then that means you're operating in pride on the days that you're doing good. Let me explain. If I say, well, I can't approach God today because, I sinned yesterday, or I can't approach God today because I skipped prayer. Then that means that you think you can approach God because of the way you live, or you can approach God because you've been so consistent in prayer. Well, that just goes to show you that you're relying on your own works to give you access to the presence of God. And that's not the way you ought to live. That's the wrong mindset. Rather, we know that we have confidence that we can approach him no matter what, in any circumstance, as long as we come to him in faith. So maybe you have a drug addiction. Maybe you have a pornography addiction. Maybe you have a lust problem, an anger problem. Maybe you have a laziness problem, whatever the issue may be, whatever the problem is, you approach God anyway, read the Bible anyway, go to the prayer room anyway. And you're gonna find that you're gonna— there's gonna be some days where you mess up and pray, and then you mess up and pray, and then you mess up and pray. Eventually, you're gonna find that that prayer life, that devotion to the Word, that consistency in the things of God is going to overpower that habit. Number 3, have faith that God hears you. Imagine you go to hang out with a friend, or maybe you go to spend time with your spouse, and you're sitting there and you have to beg for their attention. Maybe they're giving you the silent treatment. And you're trying to start a conversation and they're just kind of giving you the cold shoulder. Or maybe you send them a text, or maybe you're making a phone call and they're just never responding to any of those things. I mean, who wants to be in a relationship where the other person is constantly ignoring you? Who wants to be in a relationship where you have to fight for the attention of the one you love? And what ends up happening is when you feel like you have to fight for the attention of the one you love, you distance yourself from them because you're tired of the rejection. And so here's how it works in the mind of the flesh. Here's how it affects you and I. Many times we imagine that we have to work to get God's attention. We think that prayer is a fight to get his attention. We think that prayer is basically us coming before him, pleading with him, trying to persuade him, God, please look at me. God, please listen to me. God, please give me your attention. And we feel like we're going into the fight for his attention. Well, who's gonna wanna pray if that's what you think prayer is? Who's gonna wanna read the word if you think you're gonna have to beg God to speak to you? And so that tension that you bring to the prayer room by imagining that God is going to ignore you or that you have to work for his attention is ultimately gonna be a deterrent from prayer. Oh, but what happens now when you come confident that he already hears you? What happens now when you approach the prayer room with boldness and you know that the moment you say, precious Holy Spirit, I thank you for your presence. Or the moment you say, Father, in the name of Jesus, or the moment you even just set your heart on prayer, you have his attention. It's not a fight for his attention. You don't have to beg for him to look at you or to listen to you. The moment you enter that prayer room, God is— in fact, God is watching you at all times. God is listening at all times. And you need to be aware of that. 1 John 5:14-15 says this, And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. Have confidence that the Lord will hear you. Have confidence that when you go to pray, he's already looking at you. And you're going to notice that that trust that he hears you that belief that you already have his attention is going to inspire you to pray more often. Because now when you approach prayer, you're not thinking, okay, here goes a fight I'm gonna have to have for God's attention. You're not thinking, okay, now I have to work to get into his presence. You're gonna approach him knowing he's already listening. He's already looking at me. I already have his presence. And so that makes commitment to prayer that much easier. Watch this now, look at the confidence that Jesus had. John 11:40. Jesus responded, didn't I tell you that you would see God's glory if you believe? So they rolled away the stone. And then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, and by the way, this is him performing a resurrection. He says, Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all those people standing here so that they will believe you sent me. And of course, then he raises Lazarus from the dead. But look at that confidence that Jesus had. Now you might say, oh, well, that was Jesus. Listen to me now. You might be saying, well, that was Jesus. He had confidence because he was the Son of God. Well, aren't you also a son of God? Aren't you also his child? To those who believe, doesn't he give them the right, the power to become sons of God? You see, when you pray, you're not praying in your name. When you pray, you're not praying in your position. When you pray, you're not praying according to your performance. When you pray, you're praying in the name of Jesus. That means in his identity, by his authority, according to his will. Galatians 3:27-28 says this, and all who have been united with Christ in baptism, watch this now, have put on Christ like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. So you and I live in Christ. So when we pray, we pray in Christ so that when God looks at you, he sees his Son, Jesus. When God hears your prayers, it's as if Jesus is praying those prayers and he's not going to reject his Son. So while you might be saying, oh, that was Jesus, he could have confidence because he was the Son of God. He could have confidence because he was perfect. Remember that when you and I pray, when you and I approach the Lord, we're doing so in Christ. And therefore, when we pray, it's as if Jesus himself is praying through us. So nevermind with this notion that God doesn't hear us because we're imperfect. We never approached him by our own ability in the first place. We always prayed in Christ. Number 4, Don't discount small daily progress. Okay, so maybe you don't read your Bible at all right now. Now, as a Christian, you should. I'm not saying that to condemn you. I'm saying that to correct you. My job isn't to shame anyone, it's to help you. So maybe you're not consistent in the Word every day. Start somewhere. If you have to, and I encourage you to read as much of the Bible as you possibly can every day, but if you have to, Start with the verse. Now I know I've said in the past, you're not going to make it with just the verse of the day, and that's true. I still stand by that, but you have to start somewhere. So begin with 1 or 2 verses, just form the habit of opening that book or opening that Bible app, just begin with something. Same for prayer. If you have no prayer life right now, and your goal is to be praying 2, 3 hours a day, okay, well, let's not start there per se, Maybe the Holy Spirit will help you. I believe he can. But for the majority of you who maybe are struggling in that area, let's just start here. Maybe a chapter of the Bible a day and maybe 10 to 15 minutes in prayer. Can you do that? I think you can. And so you begin to do that daily. So rather than trying to get to somewhere right away, like someone who's bench pressing, you don't wanna just jump right to what others are maxing out on. You have to start where you start. And you work your way up in weight until you can handle the responsibility of what's being put on you. And so in daily life, as we approach the Lord, maybe our prayer lives aren't what we want them to be yet, but they have to begin somewhere. So don't discount those small beginnings. Don't say, yeah, I have a prayer life, but it's only 5 minutes a day, so it doesn't mean anything. No, no, that's the starting point. That's the seed you're planting. Watch this, Galatians 6:9 says, So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. Don't give up. Plant that seed, water it, consistently give yourself over to the Lord on a daily basis. Give yourself to prayer, give yourself to the Word, spend time with the Holy Spirit as much as you can, and then grow it from there. So maybe during week 1, you're reading a chapter of the Bible a day and you're praying for 10 or 15 minutes. Once you've got that down as a habit, now you increase prayer, add 5 minutes, add a second chapter to your Bible reading. And then once you've established that as a habit over a couple months, up it again and just continue to increase this as the Holy Spirit leads you. But don't dismiss the progress just because your prayer life doesn't look like someone else's. Don't dismiss the devotion just because you're not as devoted yet as say one of your heroes in the faith. I know I used to hear stories from different preachers who would talk about how they would pray for several hours or read certain chapters of the Bible, how they would read several books a year. And I would go, my goodness, I don't know if I could ever be there. But the real breakthrough came when I started to embrace those little moments of progress, rather than comparing myself to other people, rather than condemning myself for not being where I wanna be yet, I started somewhere and God will work with that. Matthew 13:31-32 says, here's another illustration Jesus used. The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants. It grows into a tree and birds come and make nests in its branches. So start with the shorter time and work your way up. By the way, if this is helping you out, like you're being encouraged, you're inspired, you're saying, you know what, as David is talking, I'm starting to believe that I can actually become someone who daily spends time with the precious Holy Spirit, no matter what, despite my busy schedule, despite feeling overwhelmed. If that's helping you in that way, help someone else hear this message by leaving a like on this video right now. Also, leave a comment in the comment section. Tell me how this is encouraging you. Number 5, say no to unnecessary distractions. Our generation has an issue here. Our generation has a big issue. It's called FOMO, the fear of missing out. Oh, everyone's going out to dinner tonight. I know they're gonna be out late, but man, I really would like to be there. Everyone is gonna go to that concert. Everyone's gonna go see that movie. Oh, we got an invite to that birthday party. They're gonna take a trip this weekend to head over to this part. of the world, and I've always wanted to see that. And I understand seizing opportunities to live life now. I get that. And there's nothing wrong with hanging out with your friends. And there's nothing wrong with recreation and vacation and enjoying certain parts of your life. That's perfectly fine. But if you are so afraid of missing out that you're taking everything that comes up, it's almost like an addiction for you, or you're looking for something every day. I gotta find something every day. that is entertaining, or today didn't count. Well, that's an issue there, because now what you're doing is you're living life based on pleasure. You're living life based on entertainment rather than living life based on purpose. Or maybe you're spending too much time on certain hobbies. Now there's nothing wrong with having hobbies. That's perfectly fine. But if it consumes so much of your life that there's no room for anything else, or it takes away from your purpose, or it distracts from the overall call of God, then you got— you have to start reassessing where you are. Proverbs 4:25-27 says this, look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet. Stay on the safe path. Don't get sidetracked. Keep your feet from following evil. Learn to focus. The cure to FOMO is focus. Will this add to the overall purpose in my life? Will this contribute to my larger goals? And again, recreation should be a part of your schedule. Relaxation should be a part of your schedule. Time with friends, and yes, even entertainment should be a part of your schedule. Don't confuse misery for holiness. But on the other side of the coin, you need to appreciate the fact that sometimes we are so consumed with saying yes to so many things that we can never say yes to the right things. Or maybe you're constantly saying yes to the favors that people are asking you. Or maybe you're constantly answering the phone. Here's a secret. You know, you don't have to answer every phone call. You know, you don't have to reply to every text. You know, you don't have to comment on every post. You don't have to accept every invite. You don't have to take on every responsibility. Sometimes we're so committed to being people pleasers that we fail to please God because we don't want to offend anybody. But you need to learn to say no to the wrong things so that you can begin to say yes to the right things. Say no to unnecessary distractions. Number 6, practice both scheduled and spontaneous prayer. Now you're going to find that there are 2 types of prayer. The scheduled secluded prayer, this is where you're locking yourself in a room, and you've devoted that time to prayer. You're not taking on any calls. You're not talking to anyone. You've locked yourself away with the Word. You need to be doing that every day. That's when I say scheduled prayer, because there's a ceremony to prayer. Yes, of course. But you also need to add to your routine spontaneous prayer. Now spontaneous prayer is that constant awareness of the presence of God, where you're praying in your car on your way to work, You're praying at school in your mind. You're praying at home. You're praying with loved ones. You're just aware in your mind of the presence of God. Awareness of God is involvement with God. When I'm aware of his presence in a constant way, I'm involving him in various different aspects of my life, maybe aspects of my life that I never thought he could have been involved with had I not been thinking about the Lord. So there needs to be 2 forms. Again, that first one is scheduled prayer. Watch this, Matthew 6:5-6. Jesus said, when you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father who sees everything Will reward you. So here Jesus is talking about that scheduled prayer, structured prayer, that moment of commitment where all of the distractions are removed and you're totally given over to time with the Holy Spirit. Jesus did this often. Luke 5:16 says, but Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. Okay, so that's scheduled prayer. That's that moment where you're committed to the Lord, you've removed all distractions, And you've totally given yourself over, totally devoted yourself to time in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Now, what is spontaneous prayer? As I mentioned briefly, it's this constant awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence. When you become aware of the Holy Spirit's constant nearness, every room becomes a prayer room. I'm gonna say that again, and I want you to get it in your spirit. When you become aware of the Holy Spirit's constant nearness, Every room becomes a prayer room. By that, I mean that everywhere you go, you can commune with the precious Holy Spirit. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, we read, never stop praying. Philippians 4:6 says, don't worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Pray about everything. This is unceasing prayer. And by the way, This is the secret to spiritual encounters. Watch this now. Have you ever noticed that when you go to pray, say in a moment of scheduled prayer, secluded prayer, where you're locking yourself away, that there is this rigidity that precedes the flow? By that, I mean, you go to pray and it could take you a couple minutes to adjust your mind. It takes you a couple minutes to get in the flow. It takes you a couple minutes to get rid of the distractions of the world. It takes you a couple minutes to get past the guilt and the shame and so forth. And you go into that moment of prayer and it's rigid, it's mechanical, there's this unnatural sense to it, and you're just trying to find that river, that flow of the Spirit. And then there comes a moment where after you've given yourself over for long enough, you're praying, you're seeking the face of God, there— There's this breaking, and now there's a flow. Watch this now. When you combine the 2, spontaneous prayer and scheduled prayer, you learn that the line, the veil between the natural world and the supernatural world is very, very, very thin. The secret place, the secret place is not really a place. The secret place is a mindset. The secret place is an awareness of his presence. So watch this now. When I live in that constant state of awareness of his presence, when I live walking with the Holy Spirit internally, that internal fellowship, that constant checking in with him, that constant keeping him on your mind, then to move from just a natural thing, like having lunch with friends, to walking in the glory of God, where you're seeing a manifestation of miracles, you learn that there's not a thick line there that you can just cross over in between. In fact, you're living on that line as a believer. I'll give you an example of the way this works. It was Easter Sunday, and I had my family over for an after-church lunch. It was my mom and dad, my nieces and nephews, my siblings, and my grandparents. They all came over. And so the kids are playing outside. In fact, they jumped into my pool in their Easter clothes. And they were having a water fight outside. When I went outside to see what was happening, my mom shuts the door, locks me out, and told all my nieces and nephews to get me with water balloons. And they did. They're throwing water balloons at me and they're screaming and laughing. And it was just the most hilarious thing to them. I thought it was funny too. So I'm all soaked. We're having a family moment. And then I stepped back inside the house and I see that we have some family friends who had come over. Now, the family friends had come over because they wanted me to pray for them. One of their family members was having a health issue, and we went right into prayer. I walk into the house, I greet them. I said, let's believe for the miracle, and we begin to pray. But think about that. Many Christians think that you kind of have to work up to that kind of lifestyle, that supernatural moment. But again, you're not, as a believer, crossing in between 2 worlds. As a believer, you're living in both. You're living in the earthly realm, you're existing here, of course, and you're interacting with this world, but you're also living in the supernatural realm. And so I was able to go from getting water balloons thrown at me, getting in a water fight with my nieces and nephews, to within minutes praying for the sick, and the power of God manifested right there in that moment. The family was weeping, the presence of Jesus, we could sense him there. What is that? That's just that awareness of his presence. And when you live in the constant awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence, crossing in between those 2 functions, if you will, is easy 'cause you're constantly living in both. So now watch this. How does this apply to you? When you go to pray, if you've been living in that constant awareness of his presence throughout your life, when you go to pray, you're not going to experience that rigidity trying to get into that flow. It's as simple as, precious Holy Spirit, I thank you. I thank you that you're with me. I thank you that I can sense you near. And you begin to pray and just talk to him. I ask you to make me more like Jesus. Make me fall more in love with God than I've ever been before. And you can sense the beauty of his glory. So you need to practice both spontaneous and scheduled prayer. Number 7, Treasure the presence of the Holy Spirit. This takes your prayer life from being about performance to being about your love for God. Psalm 42:1-2 says, as the deer longs for the streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Psalm 73:25-26, whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart. He is mine forever. Oh, this, this love for the presence of the Holy Spirit. It's ultimately what will drive everything. Obsession beats discipline every time. Love beats religion every time. When you're so in love with the presence of the Holy Spirit, Once you've tasted of the glory of God, once you've experienced the presence and power of the precious Lord, everything changes. And now you begin to say, as the Psalmist say, as the deer pants for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee. There's this thirst for the presence of God. And when you live in that thirst for the presence of God, daily time with the Holy Spirit, That's easy. I wanna pray that the Lord would strengthen you spiritually and help you to become a consistent person of prayer. Agree with me, let's believe God to do it in you right now, that right now there would be an impartation of a praying spirit. So precious Lord, I lift that one to You now who is crying out for Your help. The cry of their heart, Lord, is to know You. Higher heights and deeper depths. As the deer panteth for the water, Lord, so our souls longeth after thee. And I pray, Lord, even now that you would strengthen that one receiving this. Give them the grace to be consistent in prayer. Give them the grace to be consistent in the word. Ignite. The fire of first love in their heart. Let love be the driving force. Let love drive them to the prayer room. Let love drive them to the scripture. Let love cause them to have you ever on their mind. Give them a praying spirit. Cause them to become a consistent person of prayer, that they might spend time with the precious Holy Spirit. Amen. Holy Spirit every single day. And Lord, I lift that one even now who is believing for their healing. Come on, let's believe for your miracle. All things are possible. Only believe. The power of God is flowing right now. Some of you will feel his power and even are right now feeling it like electricity on your body. Some might be feeling like a heat coming over you. Others may feel like a weight. Just receive that. That's the healing power of God. Precious Jesus, I pray you touch their lives, touch their bodies, strengthen them. I rebuke sickness now. I rebuke every pain, every deformity in the name of Jesus. I command every demonic attack of sickness to lose its power now in the mighty name of. Jesus, and Lord, set them free in the mind. Those who need deliverance, set them free in the mind, in the heart, and in the body. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. I want you to say it because you believe it. Say amen. Now listen, I need your help with something. Our ministry is growing rapidly, and there are opportunities before us that we need to seize. Listen to me now. The harvest is ready.
