Jesus relied on the Holy Spirit as his closest friend during his earthly ministry, not on any human disciple. He preached, healed, cast out demons, and was raised from the dead all in the power of the Holy Spirit. The speaker urges listeners to follow Jesus' example and seek their own partnership-based friendship with the Spirit.
Who was Jesus's closest friend while he was here on earth? Some might say his closest friend could be found among the broader group of his disciples, but I don't think so. You might say the Father, but though omnipresent, the Father was described by Jesus as essentially being in heaven. Our Father, who art in heaven. And no, it wasn't Mary. And no, it wasn't one of the 12. So what about Peter, James, or John? I wouldn't even say it was one of them. His closest friend in the earth was the Holy Spirit. Jesus preached in the power of the Holy Spirit, healed in the power of the Holy Spirit, cast out demons in the power of the Holy Spirit, and was even raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus partnered with the Holy Spirit, so should you and I. Embrace the power found in friendship with the Holy Spirit.
