Jesus defeated the devil through the crucifixion, canceling humanity's legal record of sin and disarming spiritual rulers. The devil is already beaten, with no power left except what people give him through disobedience. Believers can live joyfully knowing Christ reigns over all powers of hell.
Wanna put yourself in a good mood? Just think about how Jesus utterly and publicly shamed the devil through his victory on the cross. Look at this verse. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. The devil isn't going to be defeated. He's already defeated. The powers of hell have been disarmed. Satan's only hope is to hold on shreds of influence through the disobedience of people. But in the life of the believer, Christ reigns victorious.
