Ask yourself, when someone shares gossip with me, do I participate in that gossip or do I shut it down knowing that it's ungodly? Or maybe somebody asks you to lie for them. Hey, cover for me. Even if it's something seemingly insignificant, they're still asking you to pervert your words, to pervert your speech, to compromise your faith simply to convenience them. Whether it be gossip, whether it be complaint, whether it be a lie, it doesn't matter. We must protect our speech. This is a battle you're going to fight daily. And if In Ephesians 4:25, we read, so stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
