A sermon on building your identity on Scripture and Christ's finished work, not personal effort or emotional experiences. The speaker argues Christians often chase power and spiritual highs when they're already in holy union with Christ. Shift from begging God for power to gratitude for what's already yours.
Chapters
You have to allow yourself to believe what the scripture says about your identity. And this is why many Christians get stuck. They beg God, they hype themselves up emotionally in prayer, and when they don't feel anything, they think that the power of God is lacking in their lives. They think that if they read 30 chapters, then they're very anointed. If they read 100 chapters, then they're super anointed. But that's not the way this works. This begins in identity. This begins in the finished work of the cross. This begins in grace, not working for his power, but working from his power. He has already become one with you. Your spirit, his spirit merged. You are one. You walk in holy union. And so you have to make that shift from begging God for his power, begging God to anoint you, begging God to give you his Holy Spirit, and start thanking God that you are united with him. This is when everything begins to change. You begin to relax in the truth. You begin to become settled in your identity.
