Jeremiah Tipton compares prayer to an eagle climbing altitude: first you work hard against resistance, then you reach a height where you can surrender to the Holy Spirit's wind. At that point, the enemy's voice quiets and your focus shifts entirely to Jesus's presence.
Chapters
You know why eagles soar? Because after working their way to a certain altitude, they can just spread their wings, give in to the wind, and the wind will carry them. That's what prayer is like. At first you're working because you got to get past you, and then you get to this place in the spirit where you find calmer winds, where the voice of the enemy goes silent, where the cravings and the desires of the flesh Now repulse you, where the presence of Jesus, his nature, who he is, becomes your focus and obsession. And you go from fighting to pray to not wanting to even leave the room, and you just yield, and the Spirit takes you.
