True repentance isn't just changing behavior, it's an internal agreement with God that sin is wrong and must be abandoned completely. Without this shift in mind and desire, people cycle through the same struggles, seeking relief without real transformation.

You've heard it said that to repent means to what? Turn around. Turn around. That's actually not what repentance means, and I know that because that's what I used to think. You see, to repent means that I come into agreement with God about what I'm doing. To repent means I'm going to change my mind about this thing, and I'm going to say that I agree with God that this thing is wrong, that it needs to go, that it needs to go right now, and that it needs to never come back, and that it needs to go in all forms and all sizes. Because your flesh looks for relief. Your flesh looks for a safety net. Your flesh is banking on you eventually giving it what it wants. So then to say, I, I'm turning from, I'm turning from— you're trying to change your behavior when you haven't even changed your mind. That's right. And this is why you feel you go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, because you're fighting against a thought process that you have not turned around. So then to repent means to change your mind in a way that results in turning around. But you have to come into agreement with God. You have to come into alignment with what God says and thinks about your sin.
