In this sermon excerpt, the speaker argues that the devil attacks believers because they pose a threat, targeting the vulnerable rather than the strong. He distinguishes ordinary trials, persecution, disappointment, and heartache—common aspects of life—from spiritual bondage, which he says should never be accepted as a badge of honor. The core solution presented is total submission to God, not only in actions but also in thinking. By submitting mentally and using prayer as spiritual warfare, believers can replace the devil’s lies with God’s truth, causing the devil to flee from both their lives and thoughts.

The only reason the devil is attacking you is because he knows what a threat you are. Have you ever heard that before? Well, I need to tell you the truth. The devil is a bully, and bullies don't target the strong, they go after the vulnerable. Now, I'm not saying that if you're facing hardship that you're a weak Christian. All believers face trials, but there's a difference between going through a trial and being tormented and lied to by the enemy. Don't confuse trials for spiritual bondage. Don't wear spiritual bondage as a badge of honor. Trials, yes. Persecution, sure, that happens. Disappointment and heartache, that's life. But for the believer, never, ever, ever is spiritual bondage meant to be a part of your life. Submit yourselves then to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Now, notice there that when you submit to God and resist the devil, the devil doesn't fight, He flees, quite the opposite of what's often taught today. The key? Submit to God. Now, you may say, but I am submitted to God. And this is probably true in many areas of your life. But remember that we also have to submit to God in our thinking. This is why one of the important aspects of prayer is spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare for the believer is simply the fight to believe God's truth over the enemy's lies. So pray against your acceptance of the devil's lies. His influence in any measure isn't a part of the Christian life. Submit to God in your thinking, and the devil will flee from even your thoughts.
