You've probably felt when you experience moments of weakness, and I'm talking about sin now, you've probably felt like you didn't belong in the church or like you were a fake. Here's the phrase that may confuse you. When you struggle, that struggle is proof that you have the Holy Spirit. Now, how can that be? How can, how can my struggling with sin be proof that I have the Holy Spirit? Here's why. Because if it weren't for the Holy Spirit abiding in you, you wouldn't be struggling with sin. You would just be giving in to sin. The fact that there is a battle shows that the Holy Spirit is in you. Otherwise, who is that that's battling against the sin nature? So then the Holy Spirit fights on your behalf. You should be accountable to believers. Tell them, hey, I'm struggling, I need you to pray with me. You should practice discipline and choose to implement those strategies to make sure that you don't give in to compromise. You should exercise willpower with all that you have to fight against those sinful cravings. Yes, do those practical things, but the real power behind those actions is going to come when you go from striving to surrendering. When you begin to yield to the Holy Spirit, his presence so satisfies you that you're not hungry for anything that the world has to offer. Be so satisfied in Jesus that the power of compromise is broken. The Holy Spirit begins to work on those sinful cravings. He begins to do away with the old nature. He is doing the work.
