The flesh is the part of you that leans toward sin, and it never leaves. Unlike demons you can cast out, it's always there when you wake up, look in the mirror, go to bed. You can shrink it through discipline or let it grow, but the work is slow because you've been feeding it for years.

You see, the thing about the flesh, and by the flesh I mean the part of you that wants to sin, is that the flesh doesn't come and go. When you wake up, there you are. When you look in the mirror, there you are. When you go to bed at night, there you are. Everywhere you go, there you are. A demonic being, you can rebuke. Some demonic harassment, you can rebuke. A devil can be cast out. You can't cast you out of you. And so the flesh doesn't come and go. The flesh shrinks and grows. You have to keep the flesh small. You have to keep the flesh's influence small. You have to keep that sin nature weak. Otherwise, it just grows and consumes more. This is why it's important that you also not get discouraged as you make some progress, because you've trained yourself to give in to this sin nature, and you've allowed the flesh to grow in influence and strength. And so it may take some time before that influence is minimal. And once it's minimal, you keep it minimal.
