The Bible is the foundation for everything in Christian life: operating in spiritual gifts, hearing the Holy Spirit, becoming like Jesus, discerning your calling. The Word answers about 99% of life's questions. The remaining 1% needs direct instruction from the Holy Spirit, which builds on that foundation.
You wanna operate in your spiritual gifts? The Word of God prepares you. You wanna clearly listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit? The Word of God prepares you. You wanna become more like Jesus? The Word of God prepares you. You wanna find your calling and clearly see the path ahead for your life that God's laid out for you? You gotta get into the Word. So the Word of God prepares you for every good work, nothing lacking. That's your foundation. And the Word of God will solve 99% of your problems. Now I know you might be wondering, what do you mean 99%? Doesn't the Word solve 100%? Well, here's what I mean by that. I mean that there are questions that we have about our lives, questions that we have about ministry, questions about the future, and the Word of God, the wisdom that is applied from the Word of God is gonna answer 99% of those issues. That other 1% has to do with those very specific instructions that you need from the Holy Spirit directly. And the Holy Spirit does speak directly to your heart. But again, and this is what I wish most Christians would realize, is that this is the foundation. So often we're chasing after that voice to speak directly to us, and that's good. You wanna hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, but here in the Word, he speaks the clearest. Here is the more sure Word. Here is the foundation for living. And then all of the other spaces can be filled in as the Holy Spirit speaks specific instructions to your heart that you're gonna need.
