What You Need to Do Right Now if God isn't Speaking to You

David Hernandez teaches three steps for believers who feel distant from God: obey what He's already revealed to you, immerse yourself in Scripture daily, and wait patiently while trusting His faithfulness. Disobedience, shame, and condemnation block His voice.
Chapters
This is what you need to do right now if you feel like God isn't speaking to you. Number 1, obey what you already know to do. In Philippians chapter 3, beginning at verse number 12, we read, I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I've already reached perfection, but I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing, forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. Verse 16, this is key. But we must hold onto the progress we have already made. You may not be where you want to be, but sometimes the testimony is simply that you didn't go backwards. In those seasons where you feel frustrated, you're wondering where God's voice is, you're wondering why he doesn't seem to be speaking to you, do what you already know the Lord has spoken. Many times God doesn't give us the next directive, Because we've not done anything with the first instruction that he's given to us. Why is God going to give to us the instructions for step number 3 if we haven't been obedient with step number 1? 2 Timothy 3:14-15 say this, but continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them. And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus. Continue in the things that you've learned. Keep stepping in the direction you are assured of. Many times Christians, while waiting for the voice to come from heaven, ignore that sure voice that's already spoken to them. They're waiting for what's next and not being obedient to what is now. Sometimes we expect that God will speak to us every minute of every day. Now, don't hear what I'm not saying. I'm not saying that the Lord isn't with us every day. Of course, He's with us every day. He's living within us by His Holy Spirit. So while we understand that the presence of the Holy Spirit abides with us every day, while we understand that the love of God abides with us every day, while we understand that we have His acceptance every day, and we can sense His presence every day, and He guides us through wisdom every day, Not every moment of every day are we going to be hearing these specific instructions coming from heavenly places. Sometimes you just have to be faithful to the revelation he already gave to you. We complicate things. We want God to instruct us for every little detail when sometimes he wants us to learn responsibility, stewardship, the exercise of the free will. He wants us to use the wisdom that he's given to us by the Holy Spirit. Luke 8:18. So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them. In other words, when you're not faithful with the revelation that God has already given to you, he's not going to give you progressive revelation. He's not going to light the path far ahead of you if you've not taken the step right in front of you. Disobedient people have trouble hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit. This isn't because God isn't speaking to them. This isn't because God doesn't want to give them instruction. Many times Christians have trouble hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit because in their disobedience, they pick up distractions like shame, like condemnation, Like a cluttered mind, like a lowly disposition. You'd be amazed at how disobedience can destroy you internally. Yes, disobedience can bring destruction all around you, but disobedience also makes it difficult for you to hear God. In fact, disobedience makes it difficult for you to believe that God even wants to speak to you. And so many of us covered in shame, distracted by the things of the world, burdened by condemnation, we hesitate to even approach God because we don't think he'll speak to us. We don't think he'll guide us. We don't think he'll accept us when all we have to do is come back to the place of obedience. When in doubt, obey what you know the Lord has spoken. If you're continuing in rebellion, now is the time to get this right. Listen, there is no condemnation For those who are in Christ. If you're in Christ, you're a new creation. Everything has become new. All old things have passed away. And so this is not a message of condemnation, but of correction. This is the Lord speaking to you right now. I believe that with all my heart, that if there are things in your life, compromises, patterns, secret sins that you're holding onto, if you're committing sins of commission, that is doing the things you know you ought not to do, or you're committing sins of omission, that means you're not doing the things you know you should, then now is the time to repent. Now is the time to renounce that sin. Now is the time to change your mind about that sin. Now is the time to begin to make those corrections. The Holy Spirit brought you to this moment. The Holy Spirit is speaking to you. And right now there are things coming to your mind, areas of compromise that you need to correct. And so obey what you already know to do. Get rid of the disobedience in your life. Get rid of the compromise. And sometimes compromise and disobedience don't necessarily take the form of something we would call blatant sin. Like we all understand sexual perversion, lying, stealing, violence. We all understand these things to be sin and things like them. But sometimes we forget that if you know to do good, and you don't do it, to you, that's sin. If God told you to take a step in a certain direction, if God told you to go to a certain place, to communicate a certain thing to a certain person, whatever it is he instructed you to do, if you are withholding your disobedience on that instruction, that is sin. He that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him, it is sin. So tell me in the comment section, What has God already spoken to you? What is the instruction that the Holy Spirit has already given to you that you now realize you need to obey? Number 2, something you need to do right now if you feel like God isn't speaking to you. Once you've corrected the wrongdoing, once you've turned from disobedience, once you've repented of even sins of omission, that is not doing the things you know you should, once you've turned from these things and now you're in correct alignment with God through obedience, Number 2, this is primary, and I'm not necessarily listing these in order of priority, but they're all important. Number 2, you need to read the Word. You gotta get into the Scripture. Listen, if you're serious about hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit, you'll be serious about devoting yourself to the Word. If you wanna hear God speak to you, read the Word of God. If you wanna hear God speak to you audibly, read the Word of God out loud. The Holy Spirit inspired the Scripture, and the Scripture offers to us, the Old and New Testament offer to us instructions for everyday living. Psalm 119, beginning at verse 105. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. I have suffered much. Preserve my life, Lord, according to your word. Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth and teach me your laws. Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. Your statutes are my heritage forever. They are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees To the very end. When you obey the word of God, you're setting yourself up for spiritual success. Now listen, I'm not promising, nor does Jesus promise, that you're gonna live a life free of trials and temptations and struggles. Of course, in this world, you're gonna have tribulation. But when you live according to the word, you are receiving instructions from God. When you live according to the word. You are receiving divine guidance. Many believers sadly neglect the word and think that they can go on living in their own wisdom. Now, if I were to do a survey, I'm not asking you to respond, so you don't have to respond in the comment section. But if I were to do a survey right now of everyone who's watching this live or on the replay, if I were to do a survey and I were to ask those of you who worship every day to indicate so, most of you would be able to say that you worship every day. If I were to ask, how many of you pray every day? Well, many of you would be able to say that you pray every day. But if I were to then ask, how many of you are devoted to the Word of God to where you're reading a good portion of it every single day? Sadly, most of you would not be able to respond in the affirmative. Most would say, well, every once in a while, or I've tried a few Bible reading programs, I kind of fell off in terms of my commitment. Now, remember, I'm not saying this to condemn you, but you do need to get that right, because the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Well, he has to steal before he can kill and destroy. What does he steal? He steals the Word from your life. So if you're confused and you're saying, God, why aren't you speaking to me? Or, God, what is the instruction for the next step? Or, God, have you overlooked me? Have you rejected me? Remember that you can always come back to the Word. And on the word, you can be grounded. And on the word, you can build your life. And in the word, you find your guidance. In the word, you find your peace. In the word, you find clarity for instructions to move ahead. And so I wanna encourage you, once you've rid yourself of that disobedience and compromise, and once you've begun to obey the revelation that the Lord has given to you, and that could be revelation through the word, which are the general instructions from God. And that can also be revelation to your heart, where he speaks directly to you, something specific to you that you need to obey. Once you've corrected that, now you're on a path where you can clearly hear God. Again, it's not that he stops speaking to you, but compromise can clutter the mind, making it very difficult to hear the instructions from the Lord. Once you've done that, you've walked away from disobedience, you've corrected the errors in your life. I'm not saying you're living in perfection, but you're living in submission. Once you've done that, now you move into this place where you're in the Word. And through the Word now, you're receiving clear daily instructions. Through the Word now, you're receiving wisdom from on high. Now I'm gonna share a 3rd key with you, and I'll just give you a heads up right now. It's not gonna sound very spiritual, but I wanna emphasize this point probably more so than the others. Not that it's necessarily more important, but it's most often forgotten and neglected. This 3rd point is rarely applied by believers, especially when it comes to this question. I'm gonna share that with you in just a moment. But first, if you're enjoying this teaching and you think other believers need to hear it, make sure you leave a like on the stream, live or on the replay, and let's you and I stay connected. Make sure you subscribe to my channel and click the notification bell when you do subscribe so that you don't miss any of the content and you can continue receiving the teachings. Number 3, as I said, Doesn't sound so spiritual. 2 simple words, calm down, relax, stop freaking out, don't panic. Because often when I'm presented with this question, Brother David, why can't I hear God? Brother David, why is God ignoring me? Brother David, I don't know the instructions for what's ahead. I get it, I understand it. But so many believers approach this with fear and fretting and anguish, and they're so tense and disturbed. People of God, where is the peace of the Holy Spirit? Where is the trust in the Lord? Now I understand if you're in compromise, of course you're gonna be wound up and very tense and very fearful. That's what disobedience does. Sin makes cowards out of Christians. But if you're living right, and again, not in perfection, but in submission, and if you're in the word of God, trust the Lord to speak to you. Remember, We don't trust in our ability to hear God. We trust in God's ability to communicate with us. In other words, I trust that God knows what He's doing. I trust, A, that the Lord loves me, and B, that He has good plans for me. And if I trust those 2 things, then I understand that He can communicate whatever He wants to communicate. God is all-knowing. God is all-powerful. God is all-wise. And using his power, using his wisdom, using his knowledge, he's able to instruct us. So the God who formed the universe, of course he can direct it. The God who formed the ear, surely he can speak to us. The God who formed the eye, surely he can show us the way. We trust in God's ability to communicate. We're not just relying on ourselves, even if at all, when it comes to hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit. And I understand we have to be walking in obedience and we can't be stubborn in heart. I get all of that. And we have to make sure we're balancing truths and not neglecting any biblical realities. So we understand, yes, you have to be obedient. You have to be submissive. You can't be stubborn. You can't be pushing the Holy Spirit away, trying to get away from his instruction. He can still get through to you. But generally speaking, God allows you to exercise your free will, even when it comes to hearing his voice. However, we must also balance those realities with the reality that That if God wants to get through to you, he will. And if God wants to communicate something to you, he will, especially if you're walking in a way that is submitted to him. I mean, think about Jonah. Jonah ran from the Lord. He went in a completely opposite direction than where the Lord had instructed him to go. And what does God do? He doesn't abandon him to his disobedience. He sends a whirlwind from his presence, destroying Jonah's means of disobedience, And he ultimately redirected him on the path of obedience. So if Jonah, who was actively running from the instruction and the call of God, ultimately fulfilled the destiny he had in Christ, then how much more will you and I, guided by the Holy Spirit, submitted to God's will and desiring to please him, fulfill the destiny we have in Christ? He's faithful. He won't abandon you in that regard. Lamentations chapter 3, Verses 25 and 26. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him. It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Sometimes you just have to wait. When you don't know what to do, don't worry, wait. Yes, obey the word. Yes, obey what you know God has instructed. Yes, obey what you know is the voice of the Holy Spirit. But while you're waiting on that next instruction, while you're living in that in-between, between confidence and clarity, while you're waiting in that holding pattern, asking the Lord, okay, Lord, what season am I in? What's the next step? What direction shall I go? While you're waiting, stop worrying and just worship. Focus on Jesus. Trust in him. Remember, again, we are not trusting in our ability. To hear from him. We're trusting in his ability to communicate with us, and he is faithful, and he will do it, and he will not let you down. He's good, and you can trust him. Let me say that again. He's good, and you can trust him. So calm down. Many believers are frantic and fearful, and they're panicking because heaven is not constantly splitting open before them with instructions for every minute of every day. when what is before us is the revelation in the word of God that the Holy Spirit has given to us. And that covers more than 99.9% of all those things that we should be guided. And the other 0.1% or 0.01%, whatever it is, that comes from the Holy Spirit directing you spirit to spirit. And he's faithful to do that. Listen to me. God's not gonna let you go. He will not let you go. Who began a good work in you? Well, He's faithful to complete it. It's the Holy Spirit who sanctifies. It's the Holy Spirit who changes your nature. It's the Holy Spirit who ultimately has you on the right path. God will guide you. You just have to stop panicking. Stop trying to force Him and stop fighting Him. Just flow with Him. Some believers, they're fighting Him. He's instructing them to do something and they're saying no. Other believers, they're trying to force God to do something that he doesn't wanna do. Good luck with that, it'll never happen. When what we should be doing is flowing with the precious Holy Spirit through submission and daily obedience. Psalm 62:5-6, yes, my soul, find rest in God. My hope comes from Him. Truly, He is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress. I will not be shaken. Remember, believer, we don't go by feelings. We go by faith. And we trust that God is good. And we trust that God will guide. And we trust that our loving Heavenly Father, should we ever get off track, will correct us. He will lovingly correct us unto redemption. So in this moment now, and I really sense strongly that this word is for you, in this moment now, I'll say it again. And it's not gonna sound spiritual, but it's probably the most spiritual thing you can do right now, especially If you're in that season of tension, calm down. Just trust him. Listen, has he ever let you down? Has he ever overlooked you? Has he ever betrayed you or failed you? Has he ever shown himself to be incompetent in anything? If God did it before, he'll do it again. You can trust your Heavenly Father to guide you. See, sometimes legalism and religion makes you feel like if you're not seeing the heavens split and God's not giving you visions every night, and if you're not receiving instructions for every minute of every day, sometimes religious legalism, though it sounds spiritual, it sounds good, it's actually a form of spiritual immaturity. Though that may pressure you, to constantly fill that, like you need to be doing that or having that, or else you're not a good Christian. That's not of God. Just trust and obey. Trust and obey. Say, Lord, I'm listening. You speak, I listen, and I trust that you'll get through to me. I'll obey what I know is you. I'll obey what I know is in your word, and I will devote myself to the word. And as I walk this path, I walk this path knowing that I'm living in the capable hands of Almighty God, and he will guide my every step. For the Lord directs the steps of the godly. That's a promise. So Lord, I pray you help them to remember this truth in those times when they feel that tension mounting, in those moments when they're uncertain about the future. Father, in moments of weakness. And doubt and fear. Help them to remember that you are guiding them, that you are speaking to them, and that they can rely upon you. Precious Jesus, I give you praise, honor, and glory. Let them sense your presence even now. There's a strong anointing here. Just receive that, breaking every bondage. I thank you, Jesus. I thank you, Jesus. Break every bondage, touch each life and heart. I give you honor, Lord. That's the presence of the Holy Spirit there. If you sense him working in you or he spoke to you, I want you to type a big amen in the comment section. Now, just a moment here. I wanna challenge you to be a part of what God is doing through the work of this ministry. This is his ministry. We are just stewards. People are being saved. People are being healed. People are being delivered. Believers are being empowered and directed into their callings. God is using this ministry. And so I wanna invite you to be a part of what God is doing through this ministry. I understand that in the world, worldly people are worrying about their futures. And listen, we have no need to fear. People have been predicting that the sky is falling for years and years and years now, and the sky has yet to hit the ground. We don't live in the world's economy. Ultimately, we live in God's economy. So I wanna challenge you to become a monthly donor. I know that the enemy lies. I know the enemy wants to stir fear in you, but I want you to say no to the enemy and yes to the Holy Spirit. I want you to say no to the flesh, which is fearful, And yes to the Spirit, which is generous. Exercise that godly generosity. You love souls. You love the gospel. You love Jesus. You love ministry. You are giving and generous and selfless. That's who you are in Christ. So allow that spiritual side to take effect, to take control. And I want you to go right now to davidhernandezministries.com. davidhernandezministries.com/partner, davidhernandezministries.com/partner, and sign up to become a monthly ministry supporter today if you haven't done so already. If you've already signed up to become a monthly supporter, or you just wanna give a single gift, you can give a single gift by going to davidhernandezministries.com/donate. Now listen, I know that there's a lot going on in the world. I understand there are Reasons to fear. There's always, if you're looking for a reason to fear, you'll always find it. But if you're looking for a reason to have faith, you can always find that too by looking unto Jesus. Look unto Jesus and don't be afraid because fear says, if I give, I will lack. Faith says, God will take care of me. And so I can release this to help the work of the kingdom. Even in economies like this, The devil doesn't take a break. Neither should the church, neither should ministry, and neither should we stop giving to the gospel. Look, I know there's a lot going on, but there is no message more important than the gospel. There is no cause greater than souls. One more time, become a partner today by going to davidhernandezministries.com/partner. You can also give a single gift by going to davidhernandezministries.com/donate. Whatever you do, Whether monthly or single, large or small, everything counts. Well, I love you. I appreciate you.
