Just because you don't feel the presence of the Holy Spirit doesn't mean he left. There will be moments in your walk with God when you feel like his glory is resting right on your shoulders. You're mentally aware of him being near you. You feel joy and peace and confidence. You may even sense his presence physically, like a surge of power on your being. And then there are those seasons of life— trials, disappointments, doubts, questions, heartache— when you feel like the Holy Spirit is a million miles away. This is where we have to trust the Word of God, faith, not feelings. For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. The Holy Spirit speaks truth. You belong to God, and you have the Holy Spirit, even when you feel like you don't. The key to sensing his nearness is to simply believe the truth instead of your feelings. The more surrendered you are to him, the more aware of him You have the Holy Spirit, but does the Holy Spirit have you? Are you yielding to him? Are you obeying his voice? Your feelings will follow your actions. Obey him. Surrender to him intensifies the sense of him.
